SALES NOTES

Once more exciting things have been brewing in Art Department’s studio over recent months. Not only are they to release a much-anticipated full length on Crosstown Rebels in 2014, but they have also finished a red-hot new single. The ‘Sun Comes Up’ is reportedly the last record produced in the vein of their first album before the acclaimed duo release a slew of new material. It comes complete with an equally compelling remix from Life & Death alumni and break through duo Mind Against.

Despite another non-stop summer headlining festivals across the world, Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White have managed to find time to craft more emotive dancefloor gold in the form of ‘Sun Comes Up’ (whilst of course Jonny has continued to steer his No. 19 Music label through some of the biggest releases of the summer). The single revolves around the seamless interaction of a doleful and perfectly poised bassline and the rueful vocals of Kenny.

The evocative pain in his genuinely soulful and languorous voice is matched by the stylish slouch of the arrangement. It’s the sort of track that will provide beautifully tender moments on the dancefloor mid set, or will send revellers home with a dewy glint in their eye, glowing as it does with a muted golden hue.

Remixers Mind Against is a Berlin-based electronic music duo consisting of Italian brothers Alessandro and Federico Fognini. They debuted this year with a standout EP for cultured label Life & Death and make just as lasting an impact with their fantastic and standout ‘909 Remix’, which Art Department themselves have been dropping themselves for a while, to amazing reactions. Here, Glasgow’s vocals are cased in slithering synth lines, curious melodic xylophone blobs and plenty of raw 909 trickery.

It’s a wholly different beast than the original, suited for much more energetic moments on the ‘floor, but finishes off this small yet perfectly formed package in true style.
