Renaissance continue their quest to find the best emerging production talent on the planet with their second release from Raphael Mader. The prolific German has made quite a name for himself in 2020 and now, with this 3-track EP, shows little sign of slowing.
Leading the charge is title track ‘Propaganda’ and its partner ‘Blame’, which are two, top-tier melodic house and techno cuts that demonstrate Raph’s ever-increasing musical prowess. “I guess, probably like many, I’ve been using the lockdown to hone my production,” he explains, “It’s not as if I needed much excuse to lock myself away in the studio under normal circumstances, so if I can take anything away from these past, tragic months it will be the additional time it’s allowed me to grow musically.”
This growth also shines through on the third and final cut of the EP, ‘Masquerade’, where Raph demonstrates a more organic, deeper side to his repertoire. It’s a haunting track full of ethereal beauty and harks back to his debut Renaissance release, ‘Grace Of Colours’. It’s also underpinned by a touching influence, “I’ve been spending a lot more time with my 8 month old son”, says Raph, “We’ve been getting to know each other and he was definitely in my mind as the softer style of ‘Masquerade’ came together. I wanted to capture a sound of innocence.”
