Over the past few years Play It Say has become an essential label for DJs looking to make a very real and unique impact on the dancefloor. Once again here they live up to that reputation with a superb single from a mysterious new project, Day or Night, with a little help from the one and only Seth Troxler. Nothing is known about Day or Night but it’s clear listening to this single that who ever is behind the music has been around a while and has a true understanding of club dynamics. That he/she/they enlist a guest as high profile as Seth Troxler also speaks to their stature. Troxler is in a real purple patch right now with his Lost Souls of Saturn project with Phil Moffa: it is reimagining the scifi roots of techno with ambient, cinematic and psychedelic influences that were all laid out on the pair’s recent debut album. ‘Me,You,Us’ is an epic musical adventure built on modulated synth lines and with a real sense of narrative. The rhythms are loose and techno in style, the synths are experimental and the vocals are ghoulish. It adds up to the sort of trip that would form the high point in any set and brings together a world of different influences that are compelling and fresh from start to finish. This is a high class track with an artful character that makes a lasting impact.
