‘Familiar Place’ is the latest single coming from Girls of the Internet’s upcoming album ‘Girls FM’. Making modern house music, the group mix live instrumentation and vocals, with drum machines and more traditional dance music elements, to blur the lines between electronic music and live music. ‘Familiar Place’ takes the dulcet tones of Sade, and the saxophone of Grover Washington Jr and Wilton Felder of The Crusaders as reference points, to pull together this futurist disco classic.
2020 saw the group cancelling their debut full live shows in Europe, festival dates, and first tours of North America and Asia. Since the game has been changed by Covid-19, Girls of the Internet have been rolling out singles from their upcoming album at regular intervals to connect with the world in lieu of normal life, and have been reaching their audience by building their streams and socials throughout the year.
Since being discovered by Luke Solomon and Defected in 2017, Girls of the Internet have won fans like Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada, Nightmares On Wax, The Bessed Madonna, Axel Boman, Motor City Drum Ensemble. José Padilla (Café Del Mar), Detroit Swindle, Catz ’n Dogz, Mark Farina, Butch, Tensnake, William Djoko, Mike Mago, Horse Meat Disco, Finn, Adam Port, Rampa, Altern-8, Irvine Welsh and so many more playing their records.
