It seems 2011 isn't showing any signs of winding down for artist of the moment Maceo Plex.   With an acclaimed album to start off the year and a string of hit releases behind him, Maceo has risen exponentially in a relatively short space of time.  Many would be satisfied with releasing on such acclaimed labels as Crosstown Rebels, Visionquest, Hot Creations, and remixing artists ranging from Azari & III to DJ T but Maceo is going one step further with an exciting new project that will surely cement his place within the new elite of house artists.

Maceo has decided it’s time to follow in the steps of his Crosstown Rebels comrades and launch an imprint to further represent his signature sexy dark house sound. By calling the label ELLUM, Maceo is paying a fitting tribute to Deep Ellum, the name of an underground arts district in Dallas that greatly influenced Maceo's early career.  Deep Ellum was a cultural zone that had some amazing clubs and warehouse venues that housed parties in the early 90s, bringing techno and house legends to Maceo's virtual doorstep and launching the career of a young Eric Estornel aka Maceo Plex.

The ‘High & Sexy EP’, Maceo's first output on the label, is every bit as sexy and groovy as his other musical works and has been eloquently described by long time friend and fellow Miami expat, Danny Daze, as being "New Wave House". Brandishing deep and dark alluring soul, A-side ‘Stay High Baby’ is undoubtedly one of Maceo’s sexiest tunes yet. With trademark raw emotion, funk guitar licks and penetrating layers of vox in full affect, ‘Stay High Baby’ is an ode to frisky liaisons on the dancefloor.

On the flip ‘Ain’t That Love’ packs a bit more punch in the drums but still exhibits Maceo’s signature warm, dark bass and sexy groove. Again Maceo’s unique composition awakens raw energy and drama through the distinctive vocals and cinematic synths without forsaking the groove. Haunting and beautiful with notes of sadness, love and loss, ‘Ain’t That Love’ will hypnotise Maceo lovers worldwide. With a first release of this calibre and style, Ellum Audio is already shaping up as a home for future classics of the ‘new wave’.

Dasilva, who bring back a pair of bygone musical gems with their own modern interpretations. Featuring an astonishing guest appearance by house vocal sensation Joi Cardwell, Ellum delivers a late summer anthem with ‘Love Somebody Else’.

Remix of Colourblind’s cover of 1979 Jones Girls classic ‘You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else’. Having loved the remix, lost in the heady days of the early 90s, Eric orchestrated a studio session with legendary hacienda DJ Jon DaSilva to make a new reinterpreted version of the track replaying everything and creating a new melodies and sonsstructure, also managing to track down classic house singer Joi Cardwell to lay down fresh vocals and creating a real floor burner as a result. Irresistibly warm, smooth and groovy, ‘Love Somebody Else’ is quite simply massive.

On the flip, Maceo Plex goes it alone and delivers ‘Future Musik’ - homage to a favourite Closer Musik track that never did see an official release.

Kompakt Recordings and Maceo Plex’s re-imagining and interpretation of their untitled work employs rich layers of molten pads and laid-back hats until a powerful bassline cuts through the calm and Maceo’s rippling vocals work their magic.

Maceo Plex teams up with Gabriel Ananda to deliver the momentous 'Solitary Daze'. An awe-inspiring piece of music; Maceo and Gabriel have pulled out all the stops in creating this anthemic masterpiece. A sure fire dancefloor destroyer! The original is also deftly remixed by Barnt and by North Lake.

The A Side features North Lake’s infectious deeper remix whilst the flip features Barnt’s epic revision of the original. Both of which create fantastic versions of the original version, taking it off into new stratospheres. Another great single from Ellum, who seem to be going from strength to strength.

Hot on the heels of the recent Maceo Plex and Shall Ocin & FiberRoot EP’s comes another stonking release from Ellum. Odd Parents (Brian & Christine) grace the label for the second time with a double-header, heavy hitter complete with Maceo Plex Remix.

Originally from the US now resident in Barcelona Odd Parents have come up trumps with this killer single. The A Side, ‘Teach The Wind’ is a driving, hypnotically infused, analogue devastator of a track that’s being championed heavily by Maceo Plex. The flip features the Maceo Plex Remix of ‘Learning To Fly’, a slice of transcendental effervescence that successfully manages to brush the stratosphere. Yet again, another great release from Ellum whose releases seem to be getting stronger and stronger.
