When Tom Laroye and Yam Who? debuted their impassioned disco cut ‘Hit It Off’ last year it immediately captured the hearts of its listeners. Now, the release is given fresh life for 2019 with a new vinyl package featuring their Extended Disco Version, and two remixes from legendary Australian selector Late Nite Tuff Guy courtesy of Glitterbox.
Highlife are happy to welcome Salon des Amateurs regulars, Mekine U Teksi into the fold for some Kurdish hypnotism. Such a great uplifting bounce going on with these! This one’s a burner….. snooze ye not.
Let the celebrations begin, 10 Years of a vision Anané created and called Nulu, her independent label letting the world know about a genre we now know as Afro House, today after many years of dedicated work you’ll find it as main stream. Nulu means “Nothing Ultimately Leaves Us” and just in time for Winter Music Conference in Miami Nulu presents a special vinyl sampler including 4 tracks representing “Past, Present & Future” of the labels sound.
After signing on with Gatto Fritto’s mind-melting Sound of Love International Volume 1, Love International are back, we can smell summer and we’re putting you in the capable hands of festival favourites, Washington DC’s Beautiful Swimmers. A beautiful swimmer is a small blue crab. The Beautiful Swimmers are Ari Goldman and Andrew Field-Pickering (AKA Max D). And you, my friend, are about to get high on the happy. They’re here to take you on a gleeful joyride around their collective musical imagination.
New 9-track EP and inaugural release from Detroit label 100 LIMOUSINES. A fixture in the Detroit DJ world—Todd Modes has spent the last decade quietly releasing music on Going Good, FIT Sound, Golf Channel, M1 Sessions, Still Music, Fat Finger Cosmic, and Detroit Electronic Quarterly. Inspired by the birth of his son and the death of his grandfather—New Life is a deeply personal meditation on the cycles of life. This is absolutely KILLER – New label to watch!
Italian artist Fede Lng takes to his own Axe On Wax imprint to deliver the second release on its AxeOnWaxWhite sublabel, which comes complete with a deep, acidic and bumping dancefloor weapon featuring vocals by a mysterious Korean singer titled ‘Looking From Above’. On the flip side we have ‘Hang Loose’ a pure house roller inspired by the style of one of his idols, the one and only Mr G.
Audiobooks are pleased to share a remix bundle for their latest single, ‘Friends in the Bubble Bath’, out now via Heavenly Recordings. The release features two remixes by Gabe Gurnsey (Factory Floor) and one each from Welsh songstress Gwenno and audiobooks’ own David Wrench. “I love audiobooks, and ‘Friends in the Bubblebath’ is brilliant,” Gwenno says. “I wanted to create a reflective atmosphere around Evangeline and David’s lyrics, to try and compliment the story and that feeling of the party still trying to keep going at 3am, as parties tend to do.”
On his Loose Fit debut, Pépe shoots for scintillating rave euphoria across two striking originals. “Light (High As You Can)” is pure featherweight breaks with gleaming synths and a simple but polished vocal sample that glides through the mix. “Trouble Glider” aims for similar emotional heights, all in dopamine surge arps and piano house euphorics. Ever the master remixer, Lauer jumps in to close the EP subtly reshaping “Trouble Glider” into the main stage ready banger that it was destined to become.
Roy Rosenfeld returns (triumphantly) to All Day I Dream. And what a return it is. The reactions to both “Rumbala” and “Megakraft” have been immense. Just try to keep your dance floors hands down. Well, we must admit it is more a single hand in the air after the break kind of deal (think Italians at parties in Ibiza) but a hand none the less. Seriously though, these tunes are going to be heard all summer long. On the flip side are two more wistful house music lullabies. Don’t miss them either as the moods they conjure are magical.
A return to France for L’amour Existe Encore, a young producer named Laroze’s debut on Let’s Play House. A giddy jaunt through sun-kissed house with smatterings of filter fiddling, punchy horns, bright strings, chopped-up vocals. Twenty-five minutes of many DJ sets to come right here.
After a brief wander ‘round the garden, Chilean-born Ricardo Tobar returns to the ESP Institute bearing earthly delights. With 2017’s Liturgia, he introduced his creative point-of-view—instantly substantiating a sense of rhythm that was deliberately complex yet slightly rough around the edges, while touching upon his musical origins from the guitar-driven corners of psychedelia— however with this 12″ lifted off his debut 2xLP Continuidad, he leaves us gobsmacked and seeking shelter as he leaps from dancefloor comforts and descends into absolute chaos.
Hot Creations get set to release an album from label favourite, Toronto based DJ and producer Nathan Barato. Stepping away from his usual sound, Barato brings with him an old-school, energetic bounce to this ten track offering, inviting some top names to join him for the ride.
Many moons and stars have passed since VisionQuest co-founder Ryan Crosson last took to the controls on his own label for a full solo trip… ‘I Hope You Will’, his first EP on the label since 2015’s ‘On The Rise’. This EP sums up where he’s at and where we can potentially be. Molten grooves with open dynamic agendas where anything can happen. Each track a transition from one place to another as Crosson introduces different elements, tones and grooves.
German duo Avidus bring their spellbinding style to Crosstown Rebels this March. The pair have conceived a four track EP that serves to showcase their unique sound. Avidus have produced a mesmerising EP that submerges the listener in an intriguing sonic soundscape. On title track XII prominent drums arise alongside dramatic strings that create tracks full of suspense…
Life is all about rhythms at Cuttin Headz. We don’t know what we’re dancing to until we’re in so deep we can no longer control ourselves. The rhythm controls us. Right now both Guti and the Martinez Brothers are dancing to the conga rhythm. Guti’s third album, they’ve been dancing to it since the summer, teasing us with a whole slew of percussive new… And they’ll continue throughout 2019. Chance are you will, too. Eventually the rhythm will control all of us. It’s too infectious not to.
Produced at different stages over the course of an entire year, the Conscious EP is the sound of two producers at the peak of their powers. In one corner is Rossko, the longstanding FUSE resident, best known for his knack for unearthing cutting-edge house and techno sounds— and a man who values a quality-over-quantity approach to production. Tippage.
Matthias Tanzmann has released countless classic tracks on his Leipzig, Germany based label Moon Harbour. In the past he has played at Claude VonStroke’s Birdhouse event in Miami and Claude always seems to run into him in Ibiza. We have always wanted to work with him and then out of the blue a demo showed from on our doorstep! This two tracker has a great, jackin Dirtybird sound and we are very happy to welcome Matthias to the family.
Techno / Electro
Midnight Drive are extremely proud to reintroduce the world to the sublime after-hours, cult downtempo sounds of Belgian duo Pieter Kuyl and Jan Van Den Bergh aka Mappa Mundi. Mappa Mundi’s sole release ‘Musaics’ was released on Belgium’s legendary USA Import label in 1990, riding on the wave of early trance and ambient house sounds and exploring the same sonic terrain and worlds as The Orb, The KLF, Sun Electric and other like minded outfits. A wonderful swirling collage or mosaic of breakbeats, samples and new-age synth stylings. A lost gem of an LP.
E-Missions co-founder P.Leone returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids with four techno cuts entitled ‘Moments Of Peace Within’. ‘Walked Into My Life’ offers slow psychedelic guitar notes with fluttering vocals over driving drums, before ‘What Could I Have Done’ delivers a sporadic kick pattern dispersing delayed stabs and metallic sounds. ‘Wrong Muse’ presents a damaging beat amidst rattling atmospherics and low groans, before ‘The First Vision’ plays shining chords on soulful vocal chops and unearthly FX.
Erol Alkan invites two much-loved talents work their own familiar magic on ‘Spectrum’ for Phantasy. Mano Le Tough takes the track on a blissful trip through deep space, finding wormholes of sonic pleasure around an elastic bassline, waving bells and Moroder-esque synth. Finally, Istanbul’s premier edit-master and renowned crate-digger Barış K takes the krautrock drums that drove Alkan’s original track and engineers a dense, understated remix that utilises sounds inspired by the equally innovative heritage of Turkish rock and disco.
‘Chris Carter’s Chemistry Lessons Volume One.1: Coursework’ on MUTE was created using a newly-formed piece called ‘Bongo Glow’ and reworkings of three tracks from the original album. ‘Bongo Glow’, a work in progress at the time, was finished using the same processes as ‘CCCLV1’ so that it could appear on the Japanese release of the album. Daniel Avery’s remix of ‘Usyring’ is a slow building majestic tome that comes full circle. The Radiophonic Workshop took ‘Blissters’ and created a more experimental reworking in their unique style. Chris Liebing gave ‘Tones Map’ a brooding anthemic feel, adding his Slow Burn remix technique.
Emerging from the wake of his sold out release with Zehnin Records, Paleman continues his experiments with textural and visceral modular music exploration for his debut 3 track EP for Nonplus Records. This EP sees Paleman returning to the physical dance floor based music he is known for, but undoubtedly reflects strong developments in writing approach, quality of sound and exploration of new techniques. 2019 seems set to be a flourishing year for the young producer.

Rivertones – the recorded music of Caught by the River – have repressed their classic 2012 Dylan Thomas-in-dub 7″ Under Dubwood by the Dubwood Allstars. A gloriously woozy psychedelic skank that places Llareggub somewhere just outside downtown Kingston, JA. The identity of the Dubwood Allstars remains a mystery to all at Rivertones. On the B-side of the Under Dubwood 7″ is River Theme by the Time and Space Machine (aka acid house stalwart Richard Norris of the Grid and Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve). River Theme is a hypnotic, fuzzed-up garage groove that’s equal parts Dirty Water Club and Trash.
Lavascar is a sound and music project by creative instigator and provocateur Michèle Lamy, multi-disciplinary artist Nico Vascellari and Lamy’s daughter, the artist Scarlett Rouge. Following the release of their debut album A Dream Deferred in 2017 – which was inspired by Langston Hughes’ poem Montage Of A Dream Deferred, the trio will release new album Garden Of Memory through The Vinyl Factory label.
Closely working with legendary producer Tobias Levin from Hamburg, the band and The Vinyl Factory have developed and recorded the ten songs over the course of two years. Picture Northern creatures sweating out their melancholy in the Southern sun. As the wind carries the beats from the beach disco across the bay, Chopin, Vodka shot in hand, imagines writing music based on the build of crystals. To the side of the composer, the rhythm section gets restless. The thrum of Eastern European electronics pulsates in their brains.
The latest addition to the James Holden and Border Community archive is an album of solo synth work originally written to accompany the critically-acclaimed documentary ‘A Cambodian Spring’: fourteen tracks of pulsing melancholy, foreboding drone and even the occasional burst of beatless trance in the form of the uplifting arpeggios of surefire album highlight ‘Solidarity Theme’.
Essential repress titles from: Defected, Glitterbox & Kevin Saunderson.
