    1. A1. Moon Replacement
    2. A2. Moon Replacement (Gonno Remix)
    3. B1. Moon Replacement (Mark E Remix)
    4. B2. Between Us

Public Release once again plunges into the deep well of dance music talent its hometown of San Francisco has long fostered for Moon Replacement, the debut single by Anderson Chase, two originals wrapped around a couple remixes of its titular track.

Clocking in at over eight minutes, “Moon Replacement” is a tense, drawn-out affair. It coaxes you onto the dancefloor with hardedged drums that slap with a metallic clang, a steely bass throb that defines its backbone, and spindly synth noodles that creep around the crust on top. Chase’s previous life as a punk and metal drummer seeps through; this is a tenacious house boogie that trundles along at that Goldilocks BPM of 118, fast enough to snap you to attention, slow enough that you don’t lose stamina as you give into the groove. Japanese house producer Gonno, known for his ability to graft scalpel-sharp minimal techno loops onto out-there, mindexpanding arrangements, puts his own spin on the song for the A2 slot. He darkens the mood while zapping it with a static charge to quicken its pace. On the reverse is Mark E’s take, which goes in the opposite direction, applying some heat so the square structure’s joins start to melt, wiggle, wobble. The bottom is still stocky, a molten mass of heavy-duty bass energy, but the melody that dances around the top is airier and lighter, glints of sunshine through storm clouds. And then “Between Us” arrives to stick the landing, get us back to where we started. Like “Moon Replacement,” it’s a blocky foot-stomper that directs you forward with its tireless rhythm section, though this time with an even longer shadow cast behind it.

4 To The Floor continues to champion heritage tracks with Volume 6 of the Classics 12” series, ‘The MK Mixes’. As one of the most in demand producers of the halcyon period of house in the early 90s, this special delivery features three gems from MK’s impressive catalogue of remixes. Kicking off the A-Side MK remixes 4th Measure Men’s ‘4 You’, as his signature 90s-era bumping bassline, sax accents and vocal chop come into play, features typical of all his very best work. Up next the trademark MK sounds continue, as his deep and grooving mix of ‘Free Your Mind’ by Geoffrey Williams powers through the speakers. On the flip MK’s Club Mix of ‘I Never Knew Love’ by house legend Chez Damier rounds off the release, as this 12” package offers a masterclass in remixing from one of dance music’s most loved artists.

    1. A. Attery (Malin Genie Remix)
    2. B1. Sauna De Plastico (Argy Remix)
    3. B2. Sauna De Plastico (Original Mix)

London-based artist and label boss Rich NxT returns with remixes from Oscillat co-owner Malin Genie and Argy, who most recently released on Moscow Records.

Graduating onto its sixth release, NxT Records celebrates by looking back through its catalogue while serving up some new, refreshed cuts from two of Rich NxT’s favourite artists. Both have been given free rein to choose from the back catalogue and remix a track of their choosing.

First up Malin Genie is on fine form effortlessly showing why he is one of the kings of groove, taking on ‘Attery‘ from NXT004 which was championed heavily last year by Jamie Jones. Genie’s free flowing rhythm takes percussive and bass elements, gliding and rising all the way through.

On the flip the incredibly versatile Argy remixes ‘Sauna De Plastico’ from NXT002, rightly identifying the old DC10 feel as a starting point for a modern reinterpretation, bringing his influential sounds from the time bang up to date. Finally Rich NxT’s original of ‘Sauna De Plastico‘ is also included after it’s sell out second release, giving a second chance at owning this on vinyl only.

In 2015, Optimo’s Autonomous Africa label released Youth Stand Up!, a triangular recording project hatched at Glasgow’s Green Door Studio that brought together young musicians from Belize, Ghana and Glasgow for ten tracks of cross-cultural collaboration. The result was an infectious cocktail of traditional Caribbean and West African rhythms, hip hop, highlife and Glaswegian post-punk, featuring contributions from Optimo Music regulars Golden Teacher and Whilst, among others.

The proceeds from that project went directly back to the youth groups in Ghana and Belize, helping the musicians from Ghana’s Tafi Cultural Institute build a recording studio and performance space in their village.

Two years later, a grant from Creative Scotland’s Open Fund spawned the sequel to Youth Stand Up!: Youth Stand United, recorded both at Green Door and at TCI’s new studio in Ghana (with Golden Teacher’s Laurie Pitt at the controls), and mixed by Green Door’s Stuart and Emily Evans.

Youth Stand United features backing tracks contributed by members of Golden Teacher, Pu$$y Mothers, Whilst, Kaputt, and Sordid Sound System, with vocals provided by the musicians from TCI. Over 6 songs, it oscillates from the left-field disco of Diloeshutubui to the Juju-electro odyssey of Gidi to the Joe-Meek-meets-William Onyeabor space age gospel pop of Nobody Knows.

Proceeds from Youth Stand United will go towards a scholarship fund for musicians from Tafi Atome, Ghana.

    1. A1. It’s Time To
    2. B1. It's Time To (Steffi Remix)

Maceo Plex finally serves up a new single that has been huge for him in recent months: it comes from hotly tipped Irish pair Brame & Hamo with a remix from techno and electro specialist Steffi.

Brame & Hamo are new school, underground stars who can hold down intimate Berlin basements, festival main stages and large scale clubs with equal skill. They deal in house, acid, breaks and techno that is big on character and has come on their own eponymous label, amongst others. Here they link with Anthony Acid for a new single, which is only their second outside
their own label since 2016, following as it does the hugely well received Feel My Bicep release, as well as the recent remix for Ninja Tune’s Counter Records imprint.

The fantastic and anthemic ‘It’s Time To' is a throwback acid house jam with dark, looped vocals that get you in a trance. The serrated 303 is gritty and the punchy drums cannot fail to work the floor into a sweaty, writhing mass.

Steffi has long been an underground star with releases on Ostgut Ton and her own Klakson marking her out as one of house, techno and electro’s most atmospheric and assured artists. Here she remixes the original into a rugged and propulsive house cut with soulful Detroit synths and melancholic chords that make for an emotional and powerful classic.

This is a monstrous new package from Ellum Audio and another superb offering from this unstoppable duo.

    1. A1. Brr Baby Brr
    2. B1. Silver Star
    3. B2. Downtown

Italian native Fabio Neural teams up with growing Columbian talent DJ Fronter on the Brr Baby Brr EP. Soon to be released on Hot Creations, the three-track release is a contemporary house affair that shows the natural chemistry between the two.

Leading with Brr Baby Brr, a driving kick is soon complemented by whistling hats, before a teasing synth build up gives way to a pummelling bass driven drop. Silver Star comes in next with a reverberating vocal sample that’s underlined by a subtly changing bassline and warm, building pads, before Downtown rounds off the EP with a harder techno tone as punchy lead kicks meld with choppy, non-apologetic keys.

Having produced music since 2010, it was last year that Fabio Neural really caught the ground running with releases on two of modern house music’s leading labels: Relief and Saved. This year has been followed up with Brr Baby Brr, his standout release of 2019 and his first release on Hot Creations. DJ Fronter is one of Columbia’s most prominent artists. Having previously performed for the Resistance party brand his DJ sets speak for themselves, whilst his knack for producing has seen him release on labels like Circus and Nervous.

    1. A1. Totally Lazy

    3. B2. Totally Lazy (Rossko’s ‘Manlike’ Remix)

London’s Rowlanz and Paris-based duo Miroloja combine to make their Infuse debuts with ‘Totally Lazy’ this December, backed by label A&R Rossko on remix duties.

Rising talents within their own city’s bubbling house and minimal scenes, London’s Rowlanz and Paris’ Miroloja have been making noise via a slew of releases between them on the likes of Pleasure Zone, Joule, Politics Of Dancing, OLO Records and More Than Music – the home of their last collaboration, drawing support from the likes of Raresh, Sven Väth, Rhadoo, Barac, Varhat and Janeret. With 2019 drawing to a close, December marks a debut appearance on Infuse from both parties as they deliver two collaborative cuts, with FUSE mainstay Rossko also serving up a remix of the title track.

Opening the EP, ‘Totally Lazy’ unveils a deep and immersive production that snakes through paired back organic percussion, rich pads and soft, emotive female vocal hooks, before ‘007 Freak’ introduces sweeping electronic leads, rolling sub-bass and further warped and infectious vocal samples. Last up, Rossko’s ‘Manlike’ Remix quickly raises the energy levels, employing driving kicks, tripped out and delayed vox samples, and introducing soaring lead synths throughout to close the package in emphatic fashion.

    1. A. Do It Thin feat. Private Agenda
    2. B. Do It Thin feat. Private Agenda (instrumental)

Influential UK artist Man Power makes his Skint Records debut this December with a thrilling new offering featuring Berlin’s Private Agenda.

Man Power is a true electronic virtuoso who has proven he can do searing acid, raw techno and expressive disco with equal elan. As well as running his own Me Me Me labels, he has appeared on top outlets like ESP Institute and Correspondent and now impresses once again with the help of Berlin’s Private Agenda.

The electric original version of ‘Do It Thin’ is an intense and steamy affair with Eurobeat synths and Italo piano chords that are sure to make a huge impression on the crowd. Vocals that Bronski Beat would be proud of soar to the heavens and get hands in the air whilst the hard hitting drums drive things forward. Dramatic chords build the suspense, leading you towards an epic, guitar laden breakdown with well sequenced synths adding weight and colour. Edgy and expressive, it is a real stomper with a fusion of myriad different styles.

An instrumental version is also supplied that removes the vocal and allows the studio skills and musicianship to really shine, this was a showstopper in Man Power’s recent Boiler Room set and it not to be missed.

Man Power marks his Skint debut here with the same sense of timelessness and quality that has defined his career to date.

A chance meeting in a New York club led to the conception of Mowgan’s debut album, in collaboration with renowned African Benin-born Nigeria raised singer and multi-instrumentalist, Kaleta (Leon Ligan-Majek) an ex Fela Kuti, Sunny Ade, Lauryn Hill cohort who also fronted Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble and presently heads up a 70s style afro funk band called Super Yamba based in NYC. The Frenchman was working at Lina Frey when he overheard a Beninese salsa singer called Laurent Hounsavi channeling Afro-centric vibes through his performance. He approached the singer and was put in touch with Kaleta, who lives in the Big Apple, too. What happened next was pure magic, as the two men got to work in the studio to bring their two worlds together.

It’s the kind of mystical alchemy that only happens once in a blue moon; Kaleta was given carte blanche over Mowgan’s extensive collection of Africa-inspired electronic instrumentals. He selected his favourites and performed on each one, delivering an original vocal, and his own guitar licks, over the top. To stir up even more electrifying vibes, Kaleta also invited several of his talented friends to join the recordings sessions - they included vocalists Shade Myers Emmanuel, Justin Masters and Gbenga Wise, Freddie Deboe on sax, Mic Dada assisting Mowgan on synth pads and Takuya Kuroda, the infamous Japanese trumpet player from Kobe who specialises in neo-soul, hip hop and electronica.

The result is ‘Karoussel’, a vibrant, dynamic, soul-enriching hybrid between electronica and deep African musicality that sets the standard for contemporary collaborations between western and African artists, and the first in a series of album projects from Mowgan on his fledgling label Mow Records...

The Planet X invasion continues... The third release is the most-awaited EP this year featuring the Matrixxman himself. According to the Alien Council, it is his best EP so far. It contains four tracks of serious icebreaking soundscapes, running trough the listener's veins by freezing the complete solar system with a coolness. Starting the process is A1 with the fall-out Syren track called ‘Hong Kong Day’ played exclusively in the Matrixxman Dekmantel Boiler Room set last year, now finally being released for the hungry trainspotters who have been waiting for quite some time. Next up A2, the second installment of the Hong Kong- the Night version- the most spooky-sounding spirit-catching meltdown of a track. It is reminiscent of a lethal death scene in a brutal manga cartoon, where the Iron eagle flies over the lands looking for prey. On the other side- B1 starts with the track ‘Power Drain’ featuring his label mate-Exos- definitely the festival track of the release which then takes the listener to the breakbeat part of town in the final track called ‘Tango Down’ on B2. This is where the real Matrixxman signature strikes with raw, dirty rave bass turning it back and forth, finishing the EP with some analog screams. The Planet X continues tearing through the galaxy.

Joris Biesmans debuts on 17 Steps with his Big Mouth EP. The Berlin based Belgian follows hit records on Rhythm Cult, Aeon and his own Tve Recordings with an EP crafted in his trademark style – propulsive, analogue driven house and techno, rich in melody and colour.

‘After All These Years’ and the title track ‘Big Mouth’ are anthemic, brimming with extrovert synths and acid lines. On ‘DrumatiXL’ Biesmans channels vintage, celestial electro through his hardware. It’s a slick, sci-fi inspired three track selection primed for the Berlin dancefloors he calls home.

Kieran has been one of Ireland’s best producers for almost two decades, and when he spoke with Maeve about an album he’d been working on, he sounded a note of caution that, maybe, well, it wasn’t the sort of thing Maeve would like. If this was a shameless attempt at reverse psychology, it worked. Interest was piqued, the conversation continued, and the result was an enchanting, hypnotic album unlike anything heard from Phil, or anyone, before. That album was Life Cycling and it was quickly agreed that this would be the perfect record to serve as Maeve’s first full-length artist release.

    1. A Starry Night
    2. B Han Pan

Peggy Gou is proud to announce the launch of her own independent record label, Gudu Records. The label’s first release will be the Moment EP - a two-track 12” featuring the tracks ‘Starry Night’ and ‘Han Pan’.

'Moment’ sees Gou continue to explore the charismatic facets of her musical and personal identity, drawing on her Korean heritage and language and her love for house & disco’s Eighties heritage, with particular nods to the output of labels such as Prelude and West End Records in the decade’s nascent years.

Gou’s own singing voice, known to so many from last year’s ‘Once’ EP, returns here to confidently guide the rhythm on ‘Starry Night’. Mixing both Korean and English vocals over a tumbling cascade of percussion and piano house keys, the track builds to incorporate layers of instrumental samples and subtle acid lines. Romantic, anthemic and timeless in its feel, it reaffirms Gou’s skill as a songwriter with appeal that resonates beyond crowded dancefloors, not to mention language barriers.

'Han Pan' follows as an instantly rhythmic affair that draws energy from a memorable and delicately tuned pan-drum. Alongside some expert and understated arrangement, as well as another, contrasting vocal performance, ‘Han Pan’ transmits a different but equally powerful energy.
