    4. B2. Doctor High (Archie Hamilton Remix)

Fresh names to Visionquest, but certainly not new to the game; More Than Material is the promising new project between two bonafide French selector statesmen who collectively boast decades of dancefloor and studio science: Jedsa Soundorom and Gauthier DM. Launching their new alias earlier this year on Zingiber Audio, their signature has been tangible from the off; deep weighted grooves, warm dynamics and total immersion.

‘Intimate’ says it all; realising its title’s close connotations with a dubby, physical groove and a rollcall of soul rolling elements, it’s the sound of a crowd locking in en- mass. Low ceiling, heads down, lights low. ‘Godsa’ follows with similar moody momentum and another hypnotic weave. This time over much more of a stately techno noir soundscape as its persistent jack is laced with subtle acid details. Next, we hit ‘Doctor High’, an ageless deep house groove peppered with nuances of uplift, trippiness and a drum arrangement that taps deep into the foundations. Once again, the track relives its title’s implications.

Finally, we sign out with a precision revision from Fuse resident Archie Hamilton who refixes the pace and density of ‘Doctor High’ with more of a driving peaktime aesthetic that remains fully respectful of the original’s weight and clarity. More Than Material by nature, spirit and name.

    1. A. People's Nation
    2. B. Inside My Love

Canadian producer B.Traits returns to her In.Toto imprint this October with two vigorous cuts entitled ‘People’s Nation’.

Based in London for the best part of a decade, DJ, producer and BBC Radio 1 host B.Traits has become one of the world’s most influential electronic music tastemakers via her weekly show as part of the BBC’s legendary Friday night line-up, exploring the deeper, darker and more leftfield realms of house and techno.

Launched in 2016, In.Toto signified a career milestone as it also marked B.Traits’ return to production following a four year hiatus. ‘Still Point / North Shore’ - the label’s debut release – sold out within one day, and was quickly followed by imprint’s second lauded release, ‘Basic Scenario’. Meanwhile, B.Traits recently dropped an otherworldly remix of ‘Queendom’ by Norwegian dreamy pop sensation, AURORA.

Thudding kicks, rattling hats and effervescent synths make way for an echoing vocal in ‘People’s Nation’, generating a robust and mesmerising roller complete with an enthralling atmosphere. On the flip, ‘Inside My Love’ utilises delayed guitars, vacillating bass rhythms and filtered samples throughout, bringing funk andgroove to an uncompromising dance floor weapon.

    1. A. Lou² - Freaky (The Bar Heads Mix)
    2. B. K.C.Y.C - I'm Not Dreaming (Media Mix)

The Strictly Rhythm imprint is legendary and is instantly recognisable by connoisseurs worldwide. It's a label that has contributed time and time again to dance music culture across it's almost 30 year lifespan. Countless classics passed through the NYC offices of Mark Finkelstein and Gladys Pizarro and this brand new 'Strictly Classics' series looks to celebrate this cornerstone dance label and it's immense catalogue by going back to the archives and presenting some double-header action for diehard fans and newcomers alike. That's right, the 'proper' mixes, reissued from source and remastered to the highest spec, each track spread across one side of a 12" for optimal sonic playback.

Number 3 in the series kicks off on a proper old-school tip with CLS' mammoth 'Can You Feel It' from 1991, a collaboration between Todd Terry and Benji Candelerio CLS made a huge and lasting impression with this euphoric and anthemic slab of dancefloor madness. Instantly recognisable from it's ravey riff and funky drum programming, file this one under 'rave classic'! Over on the flip side we have South Street Player's smoothed out '(Who) Keeps Changing Your Mind?', a rolling and deep jam from Roland Clark and George Morel that came out in 1993. This one's some lights down, honest to god soulful house music, skipping garage drums and that organ driven groove offer the perfect vehicle for Clark's gorgeous vox to soar over. Yet another set of absolutely essential SR cuts from the archive!

Remastered with love by Optimum mastering, Bristol from original master sources. Made in conjunction with Strictly Rhythm 2018.

    1. A1. Evidence
    2. A2. Soul House
    3. B1. B Boy Disco
    4. B2. Flash 'N' Folks

Matt Edwards’ R-Time Records reissue label drops four more Sir Lord Commix tracks in the third ‘Retroactive’ release.

Real name Amoon Andrews, the British house producer’s early discography continues to fetch high prices on the vinyl market. Dropping earlier this year, the first two instalments featured some of Commix’s finest cuts and now the Rekids offshoot presents the third chapter, following re-releases of Mark The 909 King,
FBK and Sanasol (Thor & Yagya).

The origins of the opening and closing tracks from this record both go back to ‘Evidence’, an exquisite release that dropped on Future Monument in 1997. Space fused melodies set the tone for the otherworldly ‘Evidence’ – a deep house cut that oozes with soul – whilst the euphoric ‘Flash ‘N’ Folks’ layers uplifting cosmic synths over a polished bassline.

Appearing on Brighton’s Ugly Music in ’98, high-spirited arpeggio keys are balanced over funk-infused drums in ‘Soul House’. Tying it all together, the pitched up ‘B Boy Disco’ - appearing on Hard Up during the ‘90s - features ghetto house textures and lo-fi aesthetics those float throughout.

Francois Kevorkian is a name that should need no introduction. With over 40 years in the game FK has occupied numerous roles in his long and storied career - drummer, DJ, A&R man, remixer and producer - his skills know no boundaries. Having DJ-ed during the nascent days of club culture in NYC alongside Walter Gibbons, Larry Levan and more, Kevorkian has been there from day one. Years spent in the seminal clubs of the day sharpened his ears and his prowess behind the mixing desk saw him become the A&R man at the legendary Prelude records in the early 80's, this in turn led to him working with everyone from The Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Erasure, D-Train, Yazoo, The Smiths, Kraftwerk and many many more. A true NYC original and legend, Kevorkian is still active today and the respect he commands amongst his peers has never waned, his adventurous extended DJ sets, seminal mixes and remixes and his open ears and open mind have ensured that he will go down in history as a musical pioneer.

Rewind to 1995. Kevorkian's 'Wave Music' imprint has come into existence with a handful of releases. No-one could imagine that his self-produced 'FK EP' - the next release on the label - would be a stone cold classic. Easily one of the most consistent, exciting and solid EP's to come out of NYC during this golden era of dance music. Across 4 tracks we are taken on a sound journey through a world that is undoubtedly informed by FK's time as an engineer, DJ and most importantly, a music lover.

EP opener 'Hypnodelic' brings us into this world, a deep, driving cut that fuses the dubbed out vocals of Freddie Turner against FK's keyboards and immaculate drum programming, oozing cosmic electronic soul, this track was destined to be a future classic. 'Mindspeak' also boasts some tough drums and with a respectful nod to Chicago is an incredibly mixed and arranged peak-time cut that will drive your dancefloor into deep space again and again. 'Edge Of Time' welcomes us to the flipside of the EP, wild Latin percussions, tablas and old school horn stabs drive this monstrous cut, not to mention cavernous dub FX and that huge bassline that just doesn't let up. Essential. 'Moov' rounds things out on a more subdued, stripped back vibe. Reversed percussions and spaced-out synth chords lace this beautifully understated and warm track, one that builds into a crescendo of melodies and hypnotic rhythms and the perfect way to close what has been a truly special musical journey.

This essential reissue of the 'FK EP' has been fully licensed, sanctioned and remastered in conjunction with FK from the original master sources by Optimum Mastering, Bristol UK, repressed onto high quality vinyl and packaged as the 1995 release was. A truly classic record indeed, available again for 2018. Welcome back Wave Music!

    1. A1. Can't Stop Loving You (Krystal Klear 1989 remix)
    2. B1. Can't Stop Loving You (Krystal Klear Paradise remix)

With its lush live string and horn section, Can’t Stop Loving You when originally released in 1990 was an immediate favorite in the UK, and represented famed House Producer Marshall Jefferson’s movement toward utilizing live instrumentation in his productions. The track was released right around the time the Kiss FM London launched as a legal radio station, and Richard was support talent at the radio station launch party in Hyde Park London that was headlined by fellow Chicagoans Ten City.

The track also represented one of the last releases on the relaunched Sam Records imprint, before Michael Weiss ceased releasing new titles on Sam and started Nervous Records.

Krystal Klear has shown a unique ability to recognize sonic elements trends from past eras, and re-shape them to work for today’s club crowds. With his two versions, he has done a masterful job remixing this early 90’s dance classic.

    1. A You Can (The Hacker Remix)
    2. B You Can (Extended Dub)

‘You Can’ stares directly into the haze and the strobes of the transformative night-out documented throughout Gabe Gurnsey’s debut LP, ‘Physical’. Undoubtedly one of the record’s most outright hedonistic moments, ‘You Can’ finds Gabe cheekily intoning an invitation to dance, get high, or both, assisted by a deeply trippy sonic atmosphere and a seductive, twilight bassline.

In the spirit of classic extended edits, the ‘Extended Dub’ version unpicks and expands on each of these elements, retaining the solid groove of the original while transforming it into a heady dancefloor tool. A staple of electro for the past two decades, The Hacker meanwhile continues his recent hot streak with his remix of ‘You Can’. Firmly executed with his usual cyber-militancy, his simple but effective reimagining is littered with elasticated synth stabs, urgent oscillations and an audible desire to transform Gurnsey himself into a man-machine.

Enzo Siragusa rounds off another incredible summer with a highly anticipated project, a collaborative FUSE EP with Martin Buttrich. Striking a perfect balance between Enzo’s UK rave roots and Martin’s matured finesse, the ‘Three Squared’ EP nestles neatly within FUSE’s distinct sonic palette.

Part of the FUSE family from the very beginning and held in high regard by Enzo, the two solidified their watertight bond via the line ups and studio sessions they have enjoyed together over the years, a bond that shines throughout this release.

When Enzo produces music for his label he always has the FUSE dancefloor in mind, aiming to create those immersive experiences for the crowd that he had as a youngster, across many London raves in the mid 90’s.

The ‘Three Squared’ EP deftly encapsulates this approach, from ‘Dangerman’, a track that melds Jungle’s original elements with the sound of today’s house scene, via ‘Lifted Spirits’ adorned with touches of old school Martin Buttrich, to the darker and engulfing ‘Apache’, a vinyl only exclusive for the wax heads.

This release also marks FUSE’s largest London collaboration to date, as they take over Tobacco Dock’s Car Park, where these tracks will be doing some serious damage. At this point the two collaborators will meet again, as Enzo invites Martin to play a live set.

FALK Records will be releasing ‘Spaces’ from Icelandic experimental producer AAIIEENN this August.

AAIIEENN is the solo project of electronic musician Hallmar Gauti Halldórsson. Halldórsson first came to
music though being a mover and shaker in Iceland’s punk and hardcore scene where he was the “harsh
noise guy” with local band Distill the World. With AAIIEENN however, Halldórsson moved away from the
guitars and screaming to a fully electronic world of experimental synth music and gorging on the
mathematical possibilities and expanses of arpeggio/sequencer driven ambient music.

‘Calab-Yau’ and ‘Continuous Property 1’ drip shards of pure crystalline sound into deep crevasses as
harmonic droplets ping of gleaming surfaces coated with spongiform bass. The light and effervescent
‘Euclidean’ evokes classic Ambient Works Aphex Twin, while ‘Manifold’ is more direct with a muscular and
sturdy bassline. Spaces closes with the fluttering and lush ambient sounds of ‘Zariksi’ that are carried into
the skies by a pulsing and gliding techno beat.

EJECA carves out an energetic slab of audacious party house on ‘Unloving’, resplendent with rolling beats and stabby chords, and topped off with dramatic strings and vocal chops. Elsewhere on the EP, EJECA unleashes some 303 bassline action and dark vocals on ‘Standard Acid House Track’, which thankfully rises well above anything standard! And on ‘Crystal Maze’, EJECA harks back to the darker dance energies that were a staple of the late 1980s UK acid house boom. Wrapping up the EP, ‘ISWHATIS’ gets ever so slightly twisted with an orbiting synth hook and weighty stabs over a spirited rhythm section.

Hot off a couple of 12” from Topher Horn, Rocksteady Disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more wellknown editors. Pontchartrain leads the release off with a summerinspired aural prozac number. Next up is notorious Detroit editor Lafleur, busting out this original milkysmooth Detroit boogie house production. A slight little rearrangement from Rocksteady Disco label boss Peter Croce makes this one a bit more cohesive for the DJs. Lyon, France's G2S (In Any Case) kicks off the flip with a bigbottomed stomper reminiscent of some MCDE 'Raw Cuts'. Pontchartrain bookends this release with a track that puts the 'rocksteady' in Rocksteady Disco, with heavy analogmeetselectro drum programming and complete with Pontchartrain on vocoder duties.

Remixes from the legendary Egyptian Lover (cosmic electro), fellow Detroitian Pontchartrain (filtered disco house) and Brazilian Table Daddy (lolloping dream tech).

Peter Croce takes the baton back from Blair French for Rocksteady Disco's 9th release entitled Agape. It's vision is similar to Standing Still Is An Illusion, with Peter's unique take on this AfroBrazilian deep house threetracker. The aside holds "Agape (Love Wins)", a deep and emotive house cut, with driving drums and lush strings that tease until they climax. Kicking off the bside is "Maracatu Detroit", an upbeat love letter to Peter's home city produced through a bouncy Brazilianfunk lens; a track that is sure to bring a smile to the dancers. "Bufe Bufe" closes the release, featuring Peter on live electric bass/guitar and afro stomp drum execution, brought to a peak with Yoruban talking drum + vox. Mr. PC roots the growing effervescent world beat sound with an explicitly Detroit and

    Chicago voice
“Diggin the syncopated grooves of Bufe Bufe. Mixing the samples with original guitar and bass makes for a fresh and organic vibe” Aroop Roy (Kampana Classics, Sol Power) “This is super funky! Top notch.” LadyMonix (Dirt Tech Reck)“

Agape (Love Wins) is reminiscent of a patio party with just the right amount of heat and a Detroit river breeze. “Agape (Love Wins)”, welcomes you to the party and immediately voids your uncertainty of leaving the comfort of your home for this party; the dance floor is well attended, the vibe is steadily elevated. “Midwest Maracatu” invites full body movement, pastes a smile on your face, and has the power to draw the most reluctant party dwellers to the dance floor (let alone get a semiconfident dancer grooving atop a table). After the Maracatu workout, “Bufe Bufe” keeps your body captivated while calming your heart rate slightly with the potential of inducing a moving meditation. The blast of satisfaction of the

Agape (Love Wins) EP comes as no surprise after Croce’s brilliant single Revival released in early 2017 on Rocksteady Disco.” Gin Ebony (STEP 01)

“It’s great to be inspired, especially when it's through a friend” Blair French

Physician by day, musician by night, Moonlighter makes his production debut after steadily holding down Rocksteady Disco labelmate duties. “Give Us Rain (Ah Mila)” begins the 12” beautifully, blending ethereal African samples with Moonlighter’s own melodic and percussive performance. “Kinematic” kicks off the flip on a more cosmic and techy tip, with bubbly synth stabs and drums. “A Certain Average Kind Of Normal Experience” closes out this opus with a massive peak hour bassline, emotive synthesis, and a vocal sample from everybody’s favorite UK philosopher. The Moonlighter EP is a culmination of his diverse production and digging ethos by blending the percussive with the melodic, the peak hour with the subdued, and the head with the heart.

If paired down, minimal electronic percussive sounds are your thing, lead track Ligai will tick all the boxes. Stina follows with driving, syncopated beats and a killer pan-pipe riff to hook you in. Closing the record Sand brings a deeper, atmospheric track loaded with floating M1 textures, warm bass and spirited percussion fills. All in all a highly effective and inventive slice of wax with a voguish twist to groove to.

Public Release maintains its coast-switching lifestyle with what is perhaps its most ambitious project—and inarguably its longest —yet, Earth Boys’ debut full-length, The eboys LP, the logical conclusion to a chain of collaborations that began, a little over a year ago, with the release of their Trail Mix EP. The two-disc, twelve-track album represents a new high for the pair comprised of Michael Sherburn and Julian C. Duron both creatively and technically; ideas they’ve been stewing and simmering since their splash of a debut in 2015 are now presented fully baked here.

Eboys was conceived as a classic long-player, with the majority of the tunes having a runtime of about four minutes and the whole thing feeling most satisfying when inhaled with one big tug that gets you from the A1 all the way to the D3. It begins with “The Intro,” a sort of manifesto for what’s to come: here, we find Earth Boys sitting, a little wine drunk, at the piano, attempting a slick jazz lick that sits atop shuffling breaks and is completed with a free-wheeling sax soliloquy, courtesy of local friend Jeff Hackworth. Think of it as Sherburn and Duron’s title credits sequence à la Saturday Night Live. Then it's a splash of water across the face and onward to business with "Roll it Back," a flexy, laconic warmup workout that sets the tempo and pace for the party unfolding. The rest of the first side is a woozy, pads-and-vox drenched crisscross through deep house tropes that unhurriedly tumbles into the B-side, a slinky, sharper-focused movement that begins with the G-funk-dusted “Bossa Nova Gang,” an homage to Bossa Nova Civic Club, the Bushwick dance-music incubator that the boys came up in and around.

With the next disc, Earth Boys nudge the tempo up a smidge and get a little punchier, first with “Come Thru,” an elliptical party jam with a fat, bouncy bass, then even more so with “Blue Iris,” a ravey anthem illuminated by black lights and lasers. The journey begins to come down with “Last Call,” a slo-mo wobble to the bar for one last shot of a perk-me-up, and then folds back into itself with “The Outro,” a chill-out finale that burns the remainder of the journey down to a sticky resin.

Recondite marks his return to Hotflush with the epic, potentially summer-defining 'Caldera' and a sequel to his 2012 hit 'DRGN'. The Bavarian artist has undergone a dazzling rise since that time, and one which is reflected in the increasing opulence of his music.

'Caldera', with its dramatic arpeggios and crescendos, is unabashed big-field decadence. Bearing all the hallmarks on which he's made his name - space, subtlety, build, attention to timbre - over the course of 9 minutes it raises the temperature to white heat. 'DRGN 2' picks up exactly where its 2012 namesake left off; that is, with an arching melody played out over droning tones of insidious intent. Dark, imposing and elegant - this is Recondite at his most wicked.

At once subtle and grand, ‘Phalanx / Warg’ sees Recondite exploring the full range of his distinctive voice. Deep, sinewy techno set with a genuine

Apollo proudly presents the return of SW, joined by partner SVN for a sublime 6 track EP.

SW's lush sound design and hypnotic arrangements of 2017’s ’The Album’ had hearts and minds swooning following it’s license from SUED to Apollo.

It’s balmy glory won over Pitchfork ('deeply expressive debut album’ 8/10), Rolling Stone (best electronic albums 2017) and XLR8R (Best releases 2017) amongst many others.

One year later, SW and SVN have gone into the studio, together; “to make some original music specifically for Apollo. The results are the 6 tracks on this EP,” they share in a typically taciturn statement.

Taking inspiration from the iconic house and techno of the mid / late 90s - SW and SVN combine dreamy melodies and mesmeric grooves with unfussy, focussed minimalism, their beguiling, modern take on classic sounds and rhythms remains thrillingly unique and elusive.

While SW and SVN are more comfortable out of the limelight, this 6 track EP for Apollo once again proves that they are rightly worthy of the hype that swirls around them.

Croatian producer Ilija Rudman returns to Classic with his funk-drenched ‘Lovers Change Minds’. Well-known for his distinctive analogue-disco sound, the record’s delivery on 12” vinyl comes as a perfect pairing. He remains reverent to his well-rounded retro style with heavily filtered soft vocals complimented by a deep 70s-centric bassline. Hot Toddy’s bass-focused mixes come laden with electric guitar riffs and synth flares for an even slicker groove on Ilija’s smoothly minimalist masterpiece.
