    1. A - I'm Always Dancin' To The Music (Special Disco Version)
    2. B - I'm Always Dancin' To The Music (Special Disco Version) MONO

Philadelphian Jazz legend Benny Golson has had a long and storied career, he's played with luminaries such as John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey just to mention a small handful. Obviously his credentials are rock solid and his skills as a tenor sax legend are undisputed.

'I'm always dancin' to the music' from 1978 is taken from Benny's LP of the same name. Released on the mighty Columbia imprint as a mono & stereo promo-only white label it's status among underground soul, funk & jazz aficionados is heavyweight, a true 'rare groove' indeed. Produced by George Butler (whose credentials are no less than impressive!) this one has been a hugely popular dance record that has never been easy to track down in 12" form, often topping 'most expensive' record lists it's a record that certainly won't appear in your local second hand spot anytime soon.

Due to it's scarcity and the fact that 'I'm always dancin' to the music' is such a stellar, uplifting piece of jazz-funk-disco goodness it's no surprise that the bootleggers have tried their hand at replicating this masterful release, often resulting in some fairly shoddy facsimiles. Fear not, this beautiful, legit repress comes to you via the combined forces of Above Board distribution and Sony Music, utilising their superior and original master sources and lovingly remastered and repressed just as the 1978 promo 12" was released. No messing around here.

Essential, rare and beautiful - Another amazing nugget from the vaults!

    2. B1 Don't Make Me Wait (12 Inch Dub Mix)

The original, the inspirational, the bombastic, the never bettered, the one.

'Don't make me wait' is all of the above and so much more. Classic to the core. Huge earth shattering record right here.

OK, so the scoop, for the uninitiated is this - the Peech Boys were Larry Levan's group, we're talking early 80's NYC here, 1982 to be precise, around the height of the Paradise Garage as Larry was making the transition from superstar DJ to producer. He brought a sparse, dubbed out, narcotic late night feel to the overall sound of this record. This was a short-lived project, but the influence is still felt today, the Peech Boys DNA is inside the veins of modern dance music, as is Larry's. There is no underestimating what an impact this record had. 7+ minutes of electronic bliss, trailblazing stuff, and don't get us started on the dub. Do yourself a favour, BUY this classic if you don't own it already, you'll keep coming back to it time and time again. Guaranteed. This essential 12" is repressed here in it's original 1979 glory, an essential classic that has stood the test of time for the last 30+ years & is now available again, remastered & repressed for 2017 in conjunction with West End Records, NYC.

LOUIE VEGA RE-IGNITES THE DISCO CLASSIC “DANCE (DISCO HEAT)” BY SYLVESTER

Grammy awarding winning producer & 5 time Grammy nominated Louie Vega continues to send dance floors into a peak hour frenzy with his remixes of disco classics on Nervous Records.  The inspiration to delve into masters from this era began when he started remixing masters from the SAM Records catalogue, which is owned by Nervous Records, and with whom Louie has a long history going back to Nervous' early 90’s origins. Louie is that unique producer who has had success in multiple genres of music including House, R&B, & Freestyle and he has brought that talent to help re-ignite New York disco classics like Vicky D’s "This Beat Is Mine" and Convertion’s "Let’s Do It" featuring Leroy Burgess, as well as charting topping disco hits from John Davis & The Monster Orchestra "Bourgie Bourgie" & "Up Jumped The Devil".

This time, Louie put his focus on a track outside of the SAM Records catalogue, and one that was an international disco hit that also crossed over to becoming a 1978 pop hit, namely Sylvester / Dance (Disco Heat). Using elements from the 1978 version and combining them with his own original musical and percussion contributions, along with new vocal performances from renowned singer Cindy Mizelle, Louie has refashioned and reignited this 39 year-old production into a 2018 club anthem.

This past year has seen Louie continue to fortify his position as one of the industry’s most prolific producers. Remixes from his Grammy – nominated best dance album "Louie Vega Starring...XXVIII” have consistently sold out on its vinyl release and hit number 1 on charts on multiple digital platforms. 2018 will see collaborations with Kenny Dope under their legendary and world-renowned Masters At Work and Kenlou monikers, as well as co-productions with The Martinez Brothers and Joseph Capriati.

Louie along with Anané Vega recently created one of the summer's premier club destination at their Ibiza summer residency The Ritual with Anané & Louie Vega at Heart. He continues to cross the globe from Europe to South Africa to Asia and back as one of the world’s most sought after DJ’s, and incredibly is able to maintain a weekly radio show on WBLS for the last 8 years and his NYC residency at Cielo under The Roots NYC moniker for over 13 years.

    1. A Moxy
    2. B Hi, It’s Me

Hot Creations is home to some of the industry’s most valuable players. Next year, Darius Syrossian will make a welcome return to the label with his heavy hitting two-parter, Moxy, following on from 2013’s Who’s The Douche? EP.

Kicking off proceedings is Moxy. Six minutes of pure, raw, industrial bass littered with a smattering of high-hats and a break down that will leave you begging for more. The flip side serves up more peak-time goodness with Hi, It’s Me. A driving, throbbing bassline thumps over wobbling synths with a female vocal stating that she does not do VIP clubs or bottle service bullshit!

Darius Syrossian has made quite the mark on the industry. He began releasing music in 2009 and his proceeding career has seen him release a slew of dancefloor hits on labels such as VIVa Music, 20/20 Vision and Get Physical Music, as well as collaborations with Steve Lawler, Josh Butler and Sidney Charles. He’s also held down residencies at some of the world’s most influential clubs and has become an essential part of the Ibizan summer seasons.

    1. A1 Stop Lorraine (No One’s Gunna Stop Mix)
    2. B1 Triangle (Another Epic Breakdown Mix)
    3. B2 Nairobi Candles (Fuck Rachel Tension Mix)

Seth Troxler’s always dynamite Play It Say It label kicks off 2018 with a thrilling three track EP from Heartthrob.

Jesse Siminski aka Heartthrob has long been an essential voice in the global techno conversation. From early EPs and LPs on the influential Minus label via a trio of releases on his own ISNISNT, he has explored every facet of house and techno in great detail. Always conjuring up bold melodies and slick arrangements, this is his first solo outing in a few years and marks a very welcome return.

The fantastic opening track is ‘Stop Lorraine (No One’s Gunna Stop Mix)’, which is eight freaky minutes of busy tech edged house. A rubbery, kinked bassline drives things along while paranoid voices are staved in amongst falling melodic rain, spitting hi-hats and bouncing kicks. It’s colourful and off kilter and sure to awaken any dance floor.

The more trippy ‘Triangle’ then glides along on deeper drums as knotted bass keeps busy down low. It’s a quick, slick track with jerky percussion and sci-fi synths that have the same sense of raw energy as Belgium’s famous EBM scene. It’s a wild one that builds and builds in ever more arresting ways.

The brilliantly unhinged computer game soundtrack that is ‘Nairobi Candles (Fuck Rachel Tension Mix’ completes the hat trick. Busy pixelated melodies, shooting synths and wonky piano chords all keep busy above a clipped techno groove that cannot fail to get you up on your toes.

These three tracks are perfectly designed dance floor weapons that prove Heartthrob is still one of the best out there. The release is finished off with artwork based on a painting of Jesse’s, featuring one of London’s best love industry figures in a homage to one of the 70’s greatest soul albums.

    1. A1 Dorian
    2. A2 208
    3. B1 Dorian (Margaret Dygas Remix)

Swiss producer Honorée returns to Rekids with ‘Marée Haute EP’ this January, featuring two intelligently produced deep cuts with a remix from Perlon’s Margaret Dygas.

Basel-based artist Honorée’s inaugural release ‘Marée Basse EP’ appeared on Rekids earlier this year and demonstrated a musical understanding acquired from extensive DJ experience within Switzerland’s club scene. ‘Marée Haute EP’ is Honorée’s second outing on Rekids and includes a remix from renowned minimal DJ/producer and Panorama Bar regular Margaret Dygas.

‘Dorian’ delivers crisp drum grooves which underpin mesmerising chord progressions, haunting synthesizer motifs and spacey vocals before ‘208’ provides infectious drum rhythms, glitched vocal cuts and hypnotic melodies which sit on top of a rumbling low-end. Margaret Dygas’ take on ‘Dorian’ offers a pulsating bass hook and sharp percussion which lays the foundation for dubbed-out synths and ethereal atmospheres to close the release.

    1. A Harmonic Disassembly
    2. B Skyline

Techno, Disco, Italo, Electronics, House, Library, Cosmic and Ambient frequencies - These are the bedrocks of the Midnight Drive ethos and sound. A label shining a light on overlooked or unheralded creations and respectfully reissuing them for the contemporary audience. A label that respects and understands the connection between these disparate and sometimes forgotten forms of musical expression and celebrates them.

For the latest instalment of the Midnight Drive story we look to our own rich and fertile home city of London. Formed on the Southside of the city in the late 80's Carl Grant and Tony Gallagher's long running LA Synthesis project has given us some of the most forward looking, modern and compelling Electro and Techno over the span of the last 3 decades. 'Harmonic Disassembly / Skyline' was originally released in 1997 on the cult Evolution label and made a lot of noise with the brilliant futuristic B-boy video for 'Harmonic...' getting regular airings on MTV's Chillout Zone among others. Both tracks are sleek, cutting edge examples of electronic music that is as much inspired by Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock and Steve Reich as it is Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and Jonzun Crew. Now, almost 20 years after it's original release we see a full repress of one of the jewels in the LA Synthesis crown, a truly cult record that stylistically transcends time and space and sounds every bit as groundbreaking and fresh as it did in 1997.

This is the first time 'Harmonic Disassembly / Skyline' has been reissued. This high quality repress has been made possible with the full involvement of Carl Grant and Tony Gallagher aka LA Synthesis from their personal DAT masters.

Remastered by Curvepusher. Artwork and design by Atelier Superplus.

    1. A Don't Let Go (Runaway Edit)
    2. B Slap My Stick (Soft Rocks Edit)

A little over six years ago, Let's Play House because, in earnest, with a 12-inch called Indoor Pool. Fittingly, the track it revolved around was by Runaway, the duo comprised of Marcos Cabral and Jacques Renault, and featured remixes by some tight friends of the imprint, Beautiful Swimmers, Slow Hands, and Soft Rocks.

We thought it'd be fun to celebrate our birthday for once, but not with something too obvious (e.g. a compilation) or too involved (e.g. a warehouse party blowout). What we came up with is this, a 10-inch that reflects a little of the past into the present. Appropriately, it includes edits by two of the artists on that debut EP. Runaway's is a dusted-off and remixed secret weapon from the act's early days while Soft Rock's is classic Soft Rocks, albeit from a more current vintage (it was recorded this year). Both absolutely rock. A little twisted, a little tilted, a little tipsy, but, as always, tight and tidy. Funny how, since 2009, everything has changed and nothing has changed at all for this label of ours.

    8. D2 - I Wish That I Could Make Love to You (A Walter Gibbons Mix)

Philly's Double Exposure have undoubtedly earned the title of Disco legends, their music has long been part of the heartbeat with numerous classics under their belts. Their mighty release 'Ten per cent' was the first commercially issued 12" single and subsequently ushered in the notion of the format as a 'go to' in the clubs and among DJ's. Originally thought of as a fad in a world where the 45 was king, this 12" release unknowingly changed the direction of dance music and music promotions practically overnight. Disco history indeed.

Having worked over the years with some of the biggest producers and arrangers in the game, Double Exposure have benefitted from the talents of people like Norman Harris, Tom Moulton, Bunny Sigler and even in later times, David Morales and Frankie Knuckles. This isn't to say the boys themselves were slouches though, their iconic vocals have laced many classics over the decades. Featured on this fine compilation is a collection of Double Exposure's biggest tracks, all the proper mixes are here, untouched, respectfully sequenced and re-presented in their entirety. Mixes from Walter Gibbons, Tom Moulton and Bobby 'DJ' Guttardo all included. Loud and extended 12" mixes are the order of the day. A truly essential package for the die-hard Disco aficionado or for those who are exploring this most important movement in dance music for the first time. Curated with the full input and backing of Salsoul Records and carefully selected to reflect the truly timeless nature of the music contained within. Surely no other orchestra can claim the dancefloor kudos of these guys - The Salsoul Orchestra. They've literally played on, shaped, crafted and executed numerous classics since their inception in 1975. As Salsoul Records' in-house band they were quite literally, instrumental, in the personality and sound of one of dance musics most famous and respected labels.

With over 50 members at times the orchestra offered a level of musicianship and sophistication that hadn't previously been seen in the 'dance' music of the time. Their repertoire has been sampled, flipped, mimicked, and coveted 1000's of times over the years, such is the impact of this group of musicians.

This hugely enjoyable bumper selection of some of the orchestra's highlights is pretty much essential, featuring some classic mixes and edits from the likes of Danny Krivit, Walter Gibbons, Larry Levan, Shep Pettibone, John Morales and Tom Moulton you can tell that is pure quality from start to finish. The word 'classic' gets thrown around a lot these days, often abused and attached to things that don't deserve the tag.

I think we can all agree that an outfit like Earth, Wind & Fire are truly deserving of such an accolade, since their first tentative steps in the early 1970's as an outfit the Chicago, IL pioneers have made themselves a force to be reckoned with and have sold over 90,000,000 units worldwide! Fusing together Jazz, Funk, Soul, African and Brazilian sounds EWF have been at the top of their game for decades, seeing them inducted into the legendary 'rock n roll hall of fame' at the turn of the millennium. Respect due. On this special, legit 12" reissue we are treated to 2 stellar reworkings by one of Disco and modern dance music's most respected names - Danny Krivit. Danny's tenure in dance music has almost been as long as EWF's themselves so it makes sense that he's on deck to breathe some dancefloor magic into their cult classics 'Brazilian Rhyme' and 'Runnin'. Both tracks are massive club anthems with them being generously sampled over the years and featuring in the playlists of too numerous to mention DJ's and selectors. Both of these amazing edits are extremely sought after and have been legally reissued by Above Board Distribution in conjunction with Danny Krivit and the legal rights holders - Sony Music Entertainment. Exploring the hidden crevices between the hardcore continuum, muscular house and vintage techno, Hugo Massien delivers four tracks that crackle with energy and intensity on the ‘Ghost Note EP’ - released December 5 on Dusky’s 17 Steps.

Having previously contributed EPs to the legendary XL Records and DJ Haus’ E-Beamz, Hugo’s unique sound has won him fans as diverse as Roman Flügel, Shed, Bicep, Annie Mac, Batu, Maya Jane Coles and, of course, Dusky themselves, who previously signed his ‘Restart The Sun’ to last year’s Floor To Floor compilation.

A sign of Hugo’s instinctive knack for genre mutation, ‘Ghost Note’ signals a clinical groove hybrid of rolling jungle breaks and cyborg acid fire. Contrasting the breakbeat vibes with a stripped back techno surge, ‘Speak To Silence’ pulses with industrial soundscapes and clipped acid oscillations. Elsewhere the broken beat cinematics of ‘Broke The Cycle’ provide a more meditative excursion that blends rave motifs with classic ambient references, whilst the Transmit-nodding ‘Messier 77’ closes the EP out with vintage Detroit vibes.

Burning Up lights the dance floor by squeezing every last drop of energy out of just a few key elements, a modulating pulsing cross-rhythm bass snakes around driving disco beats with choice vocal samples adding the final bit of ear candy. Minimal, a bit twisted, but hooky as hell.

On the flip we have Becoming Cyclonic, a far deeper excursion where 808 toms dance around a repeating fretless bass melody. Renaat's sets have seen him assemble a treasure trove of unreleased music that will now find a very personal home on RV Trax. Emblazoned with the Belgian national colours of black, yellow and red these tracks proudly flaunt their 'floor-filling dynamics.

The first, a dance floor stormer from Steve Legget, remixing fellow North Easterners Bird Of Paradise’s original - a tight punchy workout that pairs distorted 909 kicks against a high tension string part and melancholic synth pads. G-Prod (AKA French brothers David and Nicolas Gaugain) provide a balmy, motor-city style number - shuffling drums underpin sunrise synth washes and euphoric melodies. Buenos Ayres' Hermetics provide a frostier mood with ‘Collider’ - chilly FM bells pinned against serrated percussion and swirling distortion.

The lyrics recall a dialogue between her and a monk whom she met at the bar and asked "What are you doing here old man? This is no place for a saint to be". On remixing duties we have rising Greek producer Zaq who takes the Greek folk epirotic rhythm deep into a truly Aegean balearic beat on the A-side while on the flip side he brings some dubby acidic beats…….

After the acclaim of Time Traveler’s I’m Made of Stars’ LP last year, followed by two successful EPs on his Chronicles Diary imprint, Michele Pinna brings his Time Traveler moniker back with ‘Remix report II + Chapter IX’ EP featuring powerful remixes by three key names in European and US techno.

The EP opens with the veteran visionary Dave Clarke who delivers a complex industrial version of ‘Interstellar’ made of deeply distorted tones and punk influences. Detroit Techno Militia take over with their reinterpretation of ‘B-29’ where a groovy and energetic atmosphere is set from the start, adding a vigorous touch to the track. Brian Sanhaji’s raw techno roots are showcased in ‘Alpha’, with pulsing and dense beats yet precise cuts, turning the track into serious dancefloor material. Time Traveler is closing up the EP with hammering beats and distorted riffs and three menacing tracks in line with his dystopian sci-fi vision.

Trevor Jacksons second release on his unreleased archive recordings label Pre- is a heady collection of subterranean minimalist synth jams, blissful technicolour textures, somber distorted drones and expansive cosmic soundscapes.

Recorded during 2010-2014 with a limited analog vintage hardware set up - Elka Sythex, Roland Jupiter 6, Roland 808, Roland Chorus Echo, Bel BD80 delay & Tape, these solo recordings were created at unearthly hours as lengthy improvised compositions and cathartic personal experiments. Heavily manipulated using classic effects units, harmonic layers slowly evolve, arpeggiated melodies mutate, discordant drum machines and fractured voices merge elegantly into noise. Design your Dreams is Jackson at his best, uncompromising and considered, progressive and unique.

Unreleased mixes, classics and overlooked gems mined from the last 20+ of contemporary dance music are the order of the day. From Chicago, Detroit and New York to London and beyond, Mint Condition have got their expert digging hats on to bring you exclusive heat and those rarer than rare jams that have been on your wants list for years! Dig in....

Originally released in 1998 this classic, stripped back, funked up workout from the mysteriously monikered Jean Caffeine (aka The Freaks' Luke Solomon) is a true underground UK House classic. Raw garage-esque drums drive the title cut 'Downtime, Turn Around And Go Backwards', the track skips along while these soul drenched creeping synth melodies and pads completely wash over us and engulf our senses... then, out of nowhere that wigged out bassline appears and we're locked in to a truly sublime groove that won't stop! Over on the flip we are treated to the subdued mellow groove of 'Jean's Train Of Thought', again crazy raw drum programming is accompanied by a sophisticated, bleepy jazzy feeling that goes super deep. The EP finisher 'Jean's Afterthought' carries on the minimal funk vibe of the rest of the EP - lean, driving drums, filtered loops and creeping synth sounds that weave in and out of the mix creating a mildly hallucinatory feel that is present throughout all 3 tracks. 'Downtime, Turn Around And Go Backwards' is a truly unique record with an original style that stood out in 1998 by miles and still sounds ahead of the curve now! A modern classic indeed.

'Downtime, Turn Around And Go Backwards' has been legitimately re-released with the full involvement of Luke Solomon / Classic Records for 2017 and remastered by London's Curve Pusher from the original DAT especially for Mint Condition. 100% legit, licensed and released. Dug, remastered, repackaged and brought to you by the caring folks at your new favourite reissue label - Mint Condition!

Coming on strong way back in '87 on the legendary KMS label 'When we used to play' is 4 solid as cuts, stripped back box jams, sleazy vocals and samples and ultra-jacking rhythms! Undoubtedly one of the most addictive records of 2017, CamelPhat & Elderbrook’s ‘Cola’ has been a defining musical moment of the year. Growing exponentially since its release, the track has captivated tastemakers, DJs and clubbers alike, topping charts and blowing up worldwide to become a true modern anthem. Leading on from the success of the original and some heavyweight remixes, three of which hit the Beatport top ten – for the first time on vinyl, comes a remix package set to continue ‘Cola’s’ dance floor domination.

Rising superstar Franky Rizardo’s suitably heavyweight remix comes correct with a club-friendly update that elevates the unmissable vocal hook and bottoms out the breakdown. Dario D’Attis’ vinyl exclusive mix continues the club feel with rolling grooves, teasing breakdowns and shuffling hi-hats in a remix which packs a punch, guaranteed to get people moving from the get-go. Mousse T. flips the track completely, bringing those Glitterbox vibes to Defected, taking ‘Cola’ to the next level and going straight to Traxsource #1 in the process.

The album gets to the very essence of ‘dance music’ in its truest sense; music which moves your body and your soul. The standout tracks are a mixture of brand new funk-laden cuts, all-time house classics and rare disco treasures.

Heard for the first time on the ‘Disco’s Revenge’ compilation, The Shapeshifters lend their unmistakeable soulful house sound into the blend with ‘When Love Breaks Down’ featuring the voice of Teni Tinks. Distilling a universal spirit are iconic grooves like Richie Havens ‘Going Back To My Roots’, Whitney Houston ‘It’s Not Right But It’s Okay’ (KCC’s Release The Love Groove Mix) and Patti Labelle ‘Music Is My Way Of Life’ (John Luongo Remix), all firm favourites with the Glitterbox crowds. Giving a subtle nod to the golden era of dance music, Glitterbox – Disco’s Revenge fuses contemporary dancefloor heat with unforgettably timeless grooves, each track being chosen for its ability to create magic on the dancefloor.

Glistening scales cascade over peculiar tones. Aleksi Perälä explores the powers of an alternative tuning system in dance-floor structures, tapping into the veiled potential of his sound palette with stunning physical consequences.

Saccharine and mysterious, ‘Paradox’ channels elements of Electro, Techno and Italo, ultimately achieving a transcendental form of its own.

For the past four decades, a growing cult of soul music collectors have sought two obscure LPs and a handful of extremely rare 45s released on the vanity record label LAD Productions, Inc. between the late seventies and the mid eighties by the mysterious South Side Chicago singer/song writer Larry Dixon.

Larry's raw songs capture the transition from R&B to boogie-down as disco was rapidly becoming extinct.

They also perfectly illustrate Larry’s ability to overcome his environment and discrimination, transcended by his determination to write and produce music. With the support of his faithful musicians, Larry's success was only hindered by lack of airplay and promotion, but his talent shines through.

This is the story of Larry Dixon, his label LAD Productions, Inc., and his friends and family throughout four decades of music in Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods.

Jerome Derradji is proud to reactivate Past Due Records - the boogie funk division of Still Music to release this fantastic archive – what many consider to be the Holy Grail - of Chicago Funk, Boogie and Soul.

What happens when a house-music icon takes a small, talented bunch of musicians and mixes it with a savory blend of jazz, funk, dance, and soul music? You get a hearty serving of E.O.L. Soulfrito, who make their single debut with “Upright Love” on Vega Records.

E.O.L. Soulfrito, led by musical director and conductor Louie Vega, is the condensed version of Vega’s Elements Of Life live-band project, which over its tenure has released three albums, won a Grammy award in 2006 for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical (Curtis Mayfield, “Superfly (Louie Vega EOL Mix”), and performed for a globally-televised audience during the 2007 Superbowl pre-game show. E.O.L. Soulfrito’s name is a play on the popular Latin-Caribbean seasoning sofrito, which serves as a nod to Vega’s own Puerto Rican heritage. Earlier this year, the band played their first show at Gramps in Wynwood, Miami during Miami Music Week.

“Upright Love” embodies the organic energy of E.O.L. Soulfrito’s live performances. With a runtime of more than ten and a half minutes, it’s a steady groover that slowly blossoms into a blissful symphony of sprightly chords, jazzy bass, crisp percussion, pattering tambourine courtesy of Kat Ayala, and Cindy Mizelle’s vocal ad-lib serenades. Easygoing yet refined, the single plays out like a summer afternoon jam session between Vega and his friends: Axel Tosca on fender rhodes & synth upright bass; Josh Milan on synth jazz guitar & synth Percussion. Start swaying those hips and let the rhythm carry you into the sunset.

"I wanted to create a more condensed band, since the Elements Of Life band has ten members; it’s always been a little difficult to do smaller venues. I also wanted to create music inspired by groups and artists like War, Cymande, Johnny Hammond, and Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, but with the Vega E.O.L. twist and style. I then created E.O.L. Soulfrito with my studio musicians and rhythm section of Elements Of Life and Nuyorican Soul. I want to take this band and perform in festivals and venues like The Blue Note, Jazz Café, Ronnie Scots, and BB Kings. E.O.L. Soulfrito will bring you future grooves with a tinge of the musical landscape from our rich past, and yes, there will be experimentation—get ready for it.”

The drums smack. The bass is too loud. Liberia, Ghana, all the way across to Uganda. 1970's tinpot dictatorships birth colourful sounds. Magnetic tape, Linn drums and Bucket Brigade delay units confuse the mix. Sub-cultural colonialism to destroy the dance. Still, it sounds good. And it looks nice. Nice sleeve art. Move along. Move along....

Tafi Allstars is a collaborative recording project between Optimo Music artists Thomas Lea Clarke (MR TC) and Conal Blake (Whilst) and members of the Tafi Cultural Institute of Tafi Atome, Ghana.
After having previously visited Tafi Atome to take part in the Music of the Volta Region Study tours that are organised by TCI in collaboration with Green Door Studio, Clarke and Blake secured funding from Creative Scotland to travel back to Tafi in November 2016 to record a mini-album of tracks that blend the rhythms and melodies of traditional Borborbor and Agbadza drumming forms and Ewe songwriting with electronic instrumentation and dub recording techniques.
Clarke and Blake travelled to Tafi with a basic recording set up of laptop, microphone and soundcard, a drum machine and a synthesizer and the six tracks on the record came to fruition through various ways of working.
'Gormedzedze' (The Beginning) in which Michael 'Chilly' Dzandu recites, in Ewe, the story of how the relationship between Green Door and TCI began, was built from the skeleton of an instrumental idea that had been prepared in Glasgow. 'Deka Wor
Wor' (Togetherness) and 'Agbe Me Nya Wo' (History of Life) were built up from songs composed by vocalists Regina Egbeako and Regina Anyormi. 'Cantata' is a traditional slow form of Agbadza drumming that Clarke and Blake simply overdubbed with various electronic sounds and more vocals from Chilly. Finally the title track 'Outside Rhythm' is a straight percussion jam performed by Agblor Jerry Philip outside of the new 'Ghanaian Door' recording studio that is being built for the community of Tafi Atome through the help of projects like this and the 'Youth Stand Up!' album which was released on Autonomous Africa in 2015. After returning from Tafi, all the tracks were finalised and mixed at the Green Door Studio in Glasgow with the help of Stuart Evans and Emily Maclaren.
The resulting mini LP ‘Outside Rhythm’ will be released on Autonomous Africa on the 22nd of September with all the proceeds from the sale of this record going back to Tafi to fund the completion of the Ghanaian Door Studio.

Following on from his massive ‘Feel It In My Bones’ release (which gained support from the likes of Moodymann, The Black Madonna, Gilles Peterson, Sassy J, Seven Davis Jr) and a killer remix for Afrobeat legend Dele Sosimi – North London producer Books returns to XVI Records with two storming edits, kicking off their new ‘High Praise’ series in fine style.

‘In The Groove’ hits the ground running, immediately throwing the listener into the middle of peak-hour, loft party hysteria, it’s soulful vocals swirling overhead whilst the driving, unrelenting rhythms create a sweaty, electrically charged delirium. On the flip, ‘Passage Of Time’ takes a slightly more introspective approach, it’s shuffled hats and hazy keys giving way to majestic, uplifting horns – guiding the way down a psychedelic black hole, it’s laid back groove providing a perfect soundtrack to the voyage, as planets spin by in the darkness.
