- B1. Jumpin' Dub
A second helping of dance floor ammo from the Italian deep house classicist St. David. Almost exactly a year ago, we released his LPH debut, Fools Jam, and now we're back with a new trio of tunes that finds our friend once again embracing his enthusiasm for and celebrating old-school New York house pioneers like Todd Terry, Kenny “Dope,” and all other devotees of the MPC.
Need we say more?
- A1. Wastelands
- B1. Flamma
Following on from the success of last year’s Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, Bedouin are back on Crosstown with two original and evocative creations.
Wastelands sets the precedence for the EP with its melancholic ambience and poignant lyrics delivered from one half of the duo Rami. Flamma adopts heavier instrumental sections that create an eerie atmosphere with a pensive and dramatic build up.
Brooklyn-based nomads Tamer Malki and Rami Abousabe together form the DJ and production partnership of Bedouin. Since its incarnation, they’ve achieved notable success, with Mixmag naming them their number one Breakthrough Act of 2017. In the same year they launched their hugely successful residency, Saga, at Ibiza’s Heart. They’ve brought their distinct sound to a number of hot labels including Get Physical, Supernature, Cityfox, Kindisch and All Day I Dream. With their diverse musical influences clear in their productions, Bedouin look set to open up their sound to all the far-flung corners of the world.
- A1. Nebula
- A2. Sous Les Étoiles
- B1. Stories We Tell Ourselves
- B2. Pink Moon
Scenario founder Sebo K returns to Rekids with four inspiriting cuts titled ‘Stories We Tell Ourselves’ EP.
Berliner Sebo K has put out nothing but quality records since his production debut in 2002, establishing a solid reputation for high standard house music. However, recent years have seen Sebo demonstrate just how versatile he can be as an artist, releasing on Bass Culture, helming his respected Scenario label, not to mention his acclaimed ‘Patience’ LP which dropped on Rekids in 2017. Returning to Radio Slave’s imprint, ‘Stories We Tell Ourselves’ EP is another breath of fresh air from the imaginative artist, returning to a label roster spanning artists like Nocow, Swayzak, P.Leone, Tripeo, and more.
‘Nebula’ suitably reflects the given name, offering an otherworldly experience integrating elevating polyphonic swirls and floating electro hallmarks before the beatless ‘Sous Les Étoiles’ generates an uplifting atmosphere through deep melodies and delicate textures. ‘Stories We Tell Ourselves’ displays powerfully, emotive arpeggios layered over delightfully, stripped back breaks, leading into ‘Pink Moon’ which maintains the euphoric ambience as ethereal keys, angelic sound design and galvanising vocals operate throughout.
- A1. Mad As Hell
- A2. Beach Feet
- B1. Be Who You Want To Be
- B2. England Is A Bitch
Banoffee Pies Records release their 8th addition to the original imprint with 4 drum ridden tracks from Bristol local Gallegos with his debut solo EP, “Mad As Hell”. As the leaders pull us towards the abyss, behind the door through which we cannot see. Into a landscape we cannot predict. Inside the realm of those we cannot control. We shout from the rooftops. This is as “Mad As Hell” and i’m not going to take it anymore. As the days and months roll on, the media repeats, the calendar clicks, and the unknown future drags itself ever closer, we question why we are here. Maybe after all it is time to move forward, the next destination, to find our “Beach Feet”. To swim against the current and paddle away. To find firmer ground. To “Be Who You Want To Be”. Tick tick goes the clock, pressure mounts. After all. Times are hard. “England Is A Bitch.” BP x
- A. Clatter
- AA. Droplit
Following support from the likes of Ben UFO, Pearson Sound, Tessela, Laurel Halo, Mumdance and more, electronic producer Airhead has returned to the 1-800 DINOSAUR imprint for a brand new 12” double single of highly sought after music, purpose built for the club.
Named ‘Clatter’ and ‘Droplit’ respectively, both tracks hold the hallmarks of a classic Airhead sound, while simultaneously pushing the envelope of his previous work. ‘Clatter’, employs chiming synths and cascading rhythmic elements coupled to create its own steady tempo. Demandingly robust yet simultaneously instilling a sense of fun, ‘Clatter’ remains unpredictable throughout and consistently pushing the envelope of what defines club music. A disarming blend of whirring breaks, pitch shifted sirens, and guttural water-drop bass notes, ‘Droplit’ is the perfect counterpart to ‘Clatter’. Sparse yet still frantic and inherently danceable, ‘Droplit’ harks back to the rave era while keeping its vision firmly set in the future, transcending time and convention to embody a completely fresh approach to contemporary club sounds.
Already a lynchpin for progressive sonics both in and out of the club, Airhead’s newest release on 1-800 DINOSAUR is a staggering blend of unconventional melodics, impactful percussion and devastating low end. Proving to be a duo of hugely in demand tracks of the year thanks to support from some of the world’s most respect selectors, with ‘Clatter/Droplit’, Airhead has pushed the sounds shaking the foundations of clubs forward dramatically, and as a result, created music that will inspire incendiary reactions worldwide for years to come.

- A1. Off Peak
- A2. Off Peak (Mella Dee Remix)
- B1. Burnin
- B2. Arp Three
Following the recent ‘Aset Forever EP’ by label bosses Dusky, 17 Steps announces its next release in the form of the ‘Off Peak EP’ by innovative Russian duo Formally Unknown.
The three broken beat originals will be familiar to anyone who has seen label owners’ Dusky DJ recently.
Lead track ‘Off Peak’ offsets a breakdown of deep, Detroit-nodding chords with thunderous bass, modular bleeps and broken percussion that will test the outer limits of any sound system.
On the remix, Warehouse Music’s Mella Dee flips the original with 4x4 kicks, spacey pads and layered percussion that glides in and out seamlessly, providing the EP with a hazy, dubbed out techno gem.
Industrial broken beat jam ‘Burnin’ again blends atmospheric chords with chopped samples to create a carefully crafted leftfield trip that feels like the perfect soundtrack to an industrial How It’s Made video.
Closing things off ‘Arp Three’ brings things to a darker, stripped back close in a panic alarm buzz of broken bass and twisted FX - with distant rave divas crackling through the mix.

- A1. Paciencia
- B1. Paciencia DEEWEEDUB
Phillipi & Rodrigo’s ‘Paciencia’ (DEEWEE033) is the next taste of the Brazilian duo’s debut longplayer, recorded, produced and mixed at Studio DEEWEE in Gent. Boasting songs about the cosmos, relationships, nostalgia and signs of the Zodiac, the album, also called ‘Paciencia’, will drop early next year on DEEWEE.
Released 9 November on all formats, ‘Paciencia’ (single) is 5 minutes of hypnotic Balearic goodness, chattering synths and a floor-skimming groove. Wrought by the hands of the Dewaele brothers, the transatlantic DEEWEEDUB sports a cunning percussive build-up before shedding its skin and heading straight for the heart of the dancefloor.
‘Paciencia’ follows Phillipi & Rodrigo’s two previous DEEWEE singles, ‘Mantra’/’New Beach’ (DEEWEE017), and ‘Karma’/’Gueto De Gent’ (DEEWEE010).

- A1. Comet Pills
- B1. Roscoe
- B2. Snake Oil
For its next release, No.19 Music welcomes one of dance music’s most celebrated contemporary artists in Ryan Crosson for a new single coming on vinyl and digital.
Crosson is a true techno tastemaker who hails from Detroit. He’s released on long established labels like Minus, as well as going on to form Visionquest with Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves and Lee Curtis, and the label of the same name where he also put out key EPs and LPs with Merveille. From headline sets at festivals round the world via club gigs at the most tasteful venues in the scene, he is a real giant of underground dance music with studio skills to match, as this standout three tracker proves.
Superb opener ‘Comet Pills’ is a deep and thoughtful track that encourages your mind to wander off into the cosmos. Slick drums and melancholic chords set the tone, while the bass fleshes things out and sci-fi details bring out a cinematic quality.
The brilliantly mysterious ‘Roscoe’ is expertly stripped back and reduced house music that takes you on a trip. It's quick and smooth, with watery sound design, soft hits and muffled vocals adding intrigue to a track that is both cerebral yet designed to make you move.
Last of all, ‘Snake Oil’ is another fully realised offering which journeys to the edges of the galaxy, with long lingering ambient pads suspending you in mid-air as squelchy synths and shuffling drums keep one foot on the dance floor.
These are three terrific cuts of seriously atmospheric house and techno.
- A. Spectrum
- B. Silver Echoes
Erol Alkan returns to Phantasy with 'Spectrum' and 'Silver Echoes', his first original solo material in five years; two pure dancefloor cuts which perfectly embody Alkan's charismatic, psychedelia tinged and singular approach to DJing and production.
'Spectrum' opens with shattering live drums in the spirit of his celebrated band production work and culture as founder and resident of seminal London club, Trash, before his equally striking synthesis rises into the mix, building towards a pulsing, blissful acid house reveal. Maintaining an irresistible rhythm, Alkan interweaves between tension and release, physical raw percussion and driving analogue modulation.
On 'Silver Echoes', Alkan bridges melancholia with the natural euphoria at the heart of some of his finest reworks and productions to stunning effect. Diving immediately into the heart of a powerful melody that gradually flourishes, the track unfolds waves of blissful electro, each revealing subtle details.
A perfect summation of both past and contemporary influences, as well as a lifelong open-minded stance, 'Spectrum' and 'Silver Echoes', each capture a side of Alkan's always-evolving energy and technique, mixing his studio prowess with a timeless instinct rooted within the communal potential of the dance floor.
- A Love To The World - KON's Lots Of Love Remix
- B Love To The World - KON's Lovestrumental
Christian 'Kon' Taylor's KonTemporary imprint goes from strength to strength! This, the third release sees the Boston crate diggin' selector, producer and remixer extraordinaire reworking the mighty sounds of L.T.D.'s roof-raising 'Love To The World'.
L.T.D., an acronym of Love, Togetherness and Devotion were a highly respected and dope 70's Soul and Jazz Funk outfit fronted by the powerful Gospel-tinged vocals of one Jeffrey Osborne, whose powerful tenor voice gave their music some serious weight! Heavily revered among music lovers and often sampled throughout hip-hop and dance music (check out 'Cuttin it up', Llove ballad', 'Holdin on' & 'Back in love' for proof!) One of the group's biggest and most well-known cuts was 'Love to the world', a track that got love from the hardcore dancers, B-boys and old-school heads alike. As usual, Kon has taken this classic into a new realm with his own unique arrangement and use of ad-libs and unheard instrumentation, all taken from the master tapes and lovingly reworked. It's a difficult task to breathe new life into the classics, but Kon always comes up trumps with his fresh ideas and expert ear. Now you can catch these super heavyweight 12" versions, including an epic 9 minute plus instrumental mix, all expertly tweaked by Kon and mixed by Scott 'Supe' Stallone at Found Sound, Philadelphia.

Footshooter is the moniker of London based producer, DJ and musician Barney Whittaker. His style blends skippy, broken beat production with live instrumentation to create an organic, rich sound and he frequently collaborates with emcees, poets and vocalists exploring different tones and moods.
His last record, Strange Days EP (released on Famous Friends), gained regular plays on NTS, Balamii, WorldWide FM and, most recently, by Bonobo in a DJ set at his NYC Boiler Room.
'Technicolour Nights', due out on YAM Records later this year, is a meditation on long evenings & nights out and how they vary in atmosphere, mood and colour. Opening with the aptly named and ethereal 'Intro', the EP quickly jumps into sunshine territory with 'Juan's Stairwell' before 'On Telegraph Hill' brings the heads down for a meditative two-step groover to close up the A-side.
On the flip, Footshooter flexes his 160bpm muscles on 'Mars' with the help of London based vocalist and MC And Is Phi, before dropping the tempo just a touch on 'Rotations', a steppy, Rhodes-laden journey through London nightlife. 'Our Love' lowers the tempo even further to bring the EP to a close on a bittersweet note.
- A1. Standing Still (Aroop Roy Remix)
- A2. Standing Still (Topher Horn Remix)
- B1. Standing Still (Bamboozle aka Eli Soul Clap Remix)
Just over a year ago Blair French made his dance debut on Rocksteady Disco, subsequently making waves. This 12” pushes that sound further with remixes from a heavyweight cast of characters. Aroop Roy kicks it off with a samba-infused remix, with drum programming taking the original spiritual jazz odyssey into the late night. Topher Horn follows with a bassline driven remix, with dubbed out vox and percussion. Bamboozle aka Eli Soul Clap takes up the entire AA side on this 12” debut, blending the live energy of the original with techy cosmic synth swells and a reimagined bassline.

After grinding his teeth with a solid 20-ish EPs on labels as diverse as Boysnoize Records, CPU, Private Persons, E-Beamz, Power Station, Cultivated Electronics and his own International Chrome imprint, Sydney-based producer Mikey Melas aka Jensen Interceptor clocks in on Lone Romantic with his debut full-length delivery, 'Mother' - a ten-track album featuring collabs alongside Defekt, Assembler Code and The Hacker.
A pulsating ode to the woman who brought him into the world, Melas' first album doesn't only function as an existential mirror, as you'll find him swimming upstream literally - wisely colliding techno, electro, breakbeat and acid while he reaches for the very heart of his artistic matrix: Detroit. 'Mother' is a journey back into the womb of things for Melas, seamlessly weaving the original chaos preceding composition with the impact the finished product will have at the tail gate, when the sound-system gets all wiggly blasting his finely honed, dancefloor-deadly missiles into the busy ears of some frantic crowd pouring sweat like weightwatchers' aficionadas at a robot-ruled fitness class.
Not just a string of club bangers accidentally brought together by a stranger's hungry will to draw out the pleasure, 'Mother' aims at telling a story within its breaks and rest moments as much as it clearly devotes itself to making people get into the zone on a liminal level with its heavy compound of aggro 303 drives, convulsive breaks and bleepy motifs. Triggering the wild dancing beast sleeping deep inside yourself as much as its emotive subconscious, Jensen Interceptor's debut plain format offering will undoubtedly set off heavy adrenaline rushes and unsuspected body response, as well as deliver quite a few emotional sequences that all very much feel like opening a capsule of earthly souvenirs after landing on a distant planet.

The Overdub E.P. was first conceived by DJ's Mark Summers & Ben Howard in Sudbury, Suffolk, in 1993. Hardcore and Jungle was huge in the UK at that time, with Summers & Howard playing the genres out at their 'Paranoia' and 'The Ark' nights, at venues in Sudbury and Southend.
Over the course of 2 weeks they met at Mark's home basement studio, digging through their vinyl crates to find all kinds of inspirational material for their tracks. Both DJ's had eclectic tastes in music, and so the basis for 'The Overdub E.P.' was born; with some interesting touches added along the way. Mark had sampled an entire Korg M1 Piano inside a Chelmsford music store onto DAT, and later used that same piano to create the huge hook he played on 'Takes 1'. While Ben had sourced an obscure Reggae break used as the basis for 'Skunk Massive'. Later when DJing at 'The Ark',with Ben Howard, the final master mixes of 'The Overdub E.P.' were heard by DJ Rush Puppy - a nephew of one of the owners of Contagious Records, based in Upminster, Essex. The label had become prominent in 1992 for releasing some of the finest Hardcore/Jungle, and within a few days of hearing 'The Overdub E.P.' they were all set to make it their 11th release.
However, the legendary story of what we now know as the fate of this record began to unfold.... Shortly after the first vinyl run had been pressed, Contagious Records went bankrupt; meaning the vinyl pressing plant could not be paid - which lead to the plant destroying the complete run, minus a very limited amount of copies that were sneaked out prior to the destruction of all the remaining pressings. This extremely rare E.P. has since become one of the most highly treasured vinyl items, currently fetching up to £350 per copy on Discogs.com.

- A1 Amethyst ft Nubya Garcia
- B1 I Can See
- B2 I Can See - Rings Around Saturn Remix
Harvey Sutherland returns today with new single ‘Amethyst’, a jazz-leaning broken beat odyssey born out of sessions with London-based saxophonist Nubya Garcia and drummer Kahlil Memphis. ‘Amethyst’ is the first half of a double-A-side single; along with the second track to follow soon, it will be released on a limited edition 12-inch vinyl later this year.
‘Amethyst’ is the next step in an already-unpredictable career from Harvey Sutherland, a producer, DJ and funk synthesist from Melbourne. After steadily making a name for himself amongst Australia’s bubbling electronic underground, Mike Katz began to make international waves in 2013 with a series of successful 12” records under his nom de plume. Blending a broad array of crate-digging influences, his initial EPs have already been championed by international tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, Jamie xx, Disclosure, The Black Madonna and Pete Tong. Sold-out shows with his impeccable live band followed around the world – including Glastonbury Festival, London’s Jazz Cafe and Corsica Studios – alongside some unique side-projects: Harvey recently performed an original cinematic disco suite alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, as well as directing an east coast Australian tour with an 11-piece band in support of New York disco icon Leroy Burgess.
From the time Harvey Sutherland began making music, he was influenced by dance music, but not comfortable inside its rules. Still rooted in soul, disco and funk, the modern techno universe was not exactly where he fit – and so (as he continues to today on ‘Amethyst’) Harvey instead sought to create a world of his own. “Looking for songs in strange places”, as he says, but in ways only Harvey Sutherland knows how to look.
Part one of this exploration proved to be ‘Amethyst’, a transcontinental collaboration with two musicians also at the peak of their scene: London-based saxophonist Nubya Garcia and drummer Kahlil Memphis. Garcia has earned acclaim for her expressive style of playing, which has afrobeat, hip-hop and grime influences seeped into its bones rather than worn like a badge. Memphis, meanwhile, glides through complex rhytms with ease, their edges roughened up by a sensibility lifted from London’s pirate radio, around which Harvey Sutherland’s cosmic synths and strings orbit.
“I wanted something that had a jazz feel and lightness that was still really informed by the London broken beat scene,” says Mike now. That it’s jazz is secondary – what’s exciting for Katz is exploring the “exciting, ephemeral” sensation of “interplay, the sound of people playing together.” And whilst ‘Amethyst’ might signal a more experimental evolution in Harvey Sutherland’s sound, you also sense his desire to bring players, sounds and global scenes together into something exciting and new is only just getting started.

Rarely does an artist pay homage to the classics like Dimitri From Paris. The Grammy nominated producer, remixer, composer and DJ has made every one in his repertoire of reworks sound effortless – no mean feat when the original tracks are by the likes of one of Disco’s greatest musicians. He has a long history of remixing classic records, starting in the late 80s and culminating in this achievement of a lifetime, Dimitri From Paris presents Le CHIC Remix.
This 10-track album features brand new remixes alongside all the much-loved essentials that have resonated with artists from Frankie Knuckles to Disclosure, Gilles Peterson to Mark Ronson. Alongside the reworks – three of which have never been released before – are instrumentals of each, most also previously unreleased, for the ultimate bumper pack. Available in 2CD, download, and vinyl formats (full details to be announced), the album is an essential for seasoned Disco lovers. To create the project, Dimitri was entrusted to use the original studio masters from circa 1978 - 1980 that feature all of the individually recorded musical and vocal elements. The majority of these songs are for the first time given a respectful new mix and arrangement, unveiling never-before-heard performances, turning the spotlight on the beautiful orchestrations of one the most unique and highly-revered production duos of the Disco era and beyond; Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards, along with their CHIC organization of musicians.
Kicking off with the unmistakeable CHIC staple ‘Le Freak’, Dimitri’s timeless remix making the exquisite instrumental harmonies shine like only Dimitri can, the album delves next into ‘Lost In Music’ and a new mix of CHIC’s classic ‘I Want Your Love’. Norma Jean’s life-affirming ‘Saturday’, originally co-written by Nile Rodgers in 1978, is given a remix of cinematic proportions, no doubt set to become the climax of many Dimitri DJ sets to come. Sister Sledge’s ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’, produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards for the Disco power group, is given the Dimitri treatment with an extended mix, drawing out the string motifs, showcasing unheard sections from the original master tapes, sounding better than ever. Further exclusives include ‘Forbidden Lover’ and another Sister Sledge masterpiece, ‘Got To Love Somebody’ with cowbell and horns resplendent. More highlights include new mixes of Sister Sledge’s evergreen ‘Thinking Of You’ and the final track, an underdog from French chanson singer turned one-time Disco act, Sheila & B Devotion ‘Your Love Is Good’, a euphoric high to close on and another using many elements from never-heard-before outtakes.
Through Disco grooves and meticulously reverent production, Dimitri From Paris presents Le CHIC Remix gets to the heart of why CHIC’s music remains so universally relevant, underlining the enduring cultural significance of dance music in its most unabashed form. This album is a demonstration of how captivating the sound of a full orchestra of musicians can be, compared to today’s largely computer generated offerings – celebrating the eternally endearing qualities of some of Nile Rodger’s best-selling records, not to mention, for over 40 years, the unquestionable power of a great Disco record.

- A. Rio Grande (Space Version)
- B. Rio Grande (Jungle Version)
Released via Gigi’s aforementioned World Peace Music imprint, the stunning Rio Grande is exactly the sort of release you’d imagine would make an impression in the sets of many of the world’s knowledgable DJs. Inspired by and dedicated to Puerto Rico’s El Yungue National Forest, it came about as a result of Gigi’s many sound excursions to the stunning part. Recording nature sounds and always looking to unique places for inspiration, the release is presented by two versions: one deeper, electronic version and another that’s more leaning toward latin jazz pastures.
First up is the quite exquisite sounds of the Rio Grande (Space Version). A bouncing house gem that’s imbued with charm from the get-go, this one is a firm dancefloor groover that’s sure to get floors smiling and dancing in unison. The sort of track you can’t but love, it rolls to a quite brilliant crescendo, and is full of joy from the off. A complete dancefloor anthem that’s undoubtedly going to turn heads very soon.
On the flip side we have the sounds of the ‘Jungle’ version. This one is more stripped back but retains the original’s good-time baseline. Another joyous interpretation, it provides the spine of the Space Version, and is a lethal jam in its own right with a series of manic horns and electric guitar licks that lend it an almost rock and roll aesthetic and lift it to higher planes in the process. Distributed by Joe Claussell’s Atypical Dopeness, this is music with serious heart and personality.

Tom Laroye and Yam Who? return to Glitterbox as Qwestlife with another soulful cut, for their latest musical offering, ‘Hit It Off’. Written by acclaimed soul artist Benny Latimore, and made famous by Millie Jackson in 1979, the track was translated for dance music world when sampled by Tom Trago. Fast forward to 2018 and their take on the 70’s classic features the unmistakable voice of Teni Tinks, a session vocalist to the stars, who featured on Glitterbox releases like The Shapeshifter’s ‘When Love Breaks Down’. Tinks brings true diva flair to the track, and with the joyful chorus and smooth production, Qwestlife once again demonstrate their ability to craft modern disco with traditional analogue techniques, creating glorious dance-floor vibes and honouring a truly classic track. Available on 7” vinyl for music connoisseurs everywhere, a track like this is destined to be heard on wax, with a Disco Soul Instrumental version also available exclusively on the vinyl release.

- A Who Got Da Props? (Evil Dee's Deadly Mix)
- B Who Got Da Props? (Evil Dee's Deadly Instrumental)
The first in a series of all-time CLASSIC hip-hop anthems from the Nervous vaults, pressed onto high quality dinked 45's.
Remastered from the original source material and featuring the unedited 'dirty' version on the A-side, and the full instrumental on the B-side, these 45's are for the heads who know what time it really is!
Black Moon's 'Who Got The Props' needs no introduction, it's place in hip-hop history is fully solidified. The combination of vintage Beatminerz SP1200 beats paired with the legendary MC's Buckshot and the 5 Ft. Accelerator's streetwise NYC raps is a heady mixture indeed. Often speaking of street life in New York in the 1990's, Black Moon gained cult status via their 1993 debut LP 'Enta Da Stage', one of the most celebrated hip-hop debut albums of all time. The Beatminerz production changed the game, their deep knowledge and understanding of samples, records and digging in the crates gave their sound a real style and edge. 'Who Got Da Props' is the perfect example of this, one of those timeless rap records that appeals to the hardcore and can ignite the party. Truly essential. Every home should have one (or 2!).
Fully legit, licensed and reissued by Above Board distribution in conjunction with Nervous Records, NYC. 2018.

R&S welcome another newcomer to the family. With only one release behind him on Hessle Audio and a wicked remix for Warp (The Hundred In The Hands) Blawan finds his new tracks in demand from the likes of James Blake, Jackmaster, Untold, Ben UFO, Ramadanman and Pariah. The title track is already creating a bit of a stir from its inclusion in a few high profile dj sets, but all three tracks raise the game for this young producer. The whole ep is filled with an honest, infectious energy, just like his dj sets. You can’t pigeonhole this as ‘post’ anything, its pure, stripped down, club music. Sometimes drums, bass and acid is all you need.
- A What You Do With What You Have
- B Vibe Decorium
Blawan returns to R&S with a superb new single. What You Do With What You Have is another step up for the young producer, following the Bohla EP and his huge Getting Me Down white label. It takes a fundamental message from some KDJ spoken word and twists it through submerged acid lines, trademark driving percussion and classic techno stabs. The way he works the vocal is simply amazing, and validates the fact that “It ain’t what you got, it is what you do with what you have.” Vibe Decorium on the flip is another twisted piece of acid house put through the Blawan blender, marking him out as one of the best producers around right now. As Mary Anne Hobbs says ‘He really is my favourite producer of the moment’. She has played What you Do... four weeks in a row ‘It is just such an inspired, raw and primal piece of work’.
