TITLES OUT THIS WEEK FROM ABOVE BOARD / KRD
- A1. Sferikum
- A2. Everything I Wanted
- B1. Sferikum (Ricardo Villalobos Remix)
Three years incubation; Visionquest compadre Antonio Thagma returns to follow up his evergreen ‘Leather Soul’ EP. Taking off where his molten constructions left us in 2015, it’s another kinetic experience where the groove is full, and only, focus… And the one and only Ricardo Villalobos is on hand for a genuinely beautiful remix.
‘Sferikum’ instantly locks you in: Upbeat with a subtle strut and a maze of psychedelic textures, this one is all about the rolling subs that underpin every element, bringing everything together with fluid motion. It’s backed by the broken electroid charm of ‘Everything I Wanted’. Spacious, pensive and laced with an array of dizzying details from sly acid sinews to crafty drum variations by way of a sudden heart-stopping breakdown. Truly, this lives up to its name.
Complementing these two exceptional originals, and celebrating Antonio’s return to Visionquest at the highest level possible, Villalobos has been recruited for remix duties. A key staple of his sets this summer, it’s a singular 13 minute trip rich in subversion, twists, glitches and surprises. But, as always, the groove is the full, and only, focus. Welcome back Antonio…

- A1. Retribution
- B1. Retribution (DeFeKT Remix)
- B2. Retribution (Shanti Celeste_s Chill Mix)
Next up on Bicep's Feel My Bicep imprint is a fresh single from fellow Irishman Cromby, featuring two remixes from Electro stalwart DeFeKT and the ever-dependable Shanti Celeste.
Having held down a 6-year residency at Shine in his hometown of Belfast, Cromby now lives in Berlin where he has continued his ascent; having gone on to earn sets at Panorama Bar and Robert Johnson as well as a release on Denis Sulta’s Silver Service label.
Now - he slots neatly into the FMB catalogue with 'Retribution' - a single that draws from his experience spent on the floor and behind the booth at clubs in Berlin, with it's stirring chords and frazzled drums.
DeFeKT's offers up a buoyant, 808-heavy take on the original while Shanti's 'Chill' mix omits the kicks in favour of her signature sunny synth tones.
- A1. Blacklight Sleaze (Radio Slave Vocal Remix)
- B1. Blacklight Sleaze (Radio Slave Dub Remix)
Radio Slave’s reissue label, R-Time, returns with an in demand re-release of his timeless remixes of Peace Division’s legendary ‘Blacklight Sleaze (ft Pleasant Gehman)’.
Originally released on NRK in 2006, ‘Blacklight Sleaze’ landed at a time when Peace Division (Justin Drake & Clive Henry) was lauded as one of most bankable acts in house music having notched up a truly remarkable catalogue that helped define the genre from the late 90s onwards. Later that year, the Pleasant Gehman spoken vocal led cut was treated to a series of remixes from Radio Slave, another act who had firmly developed a similarly revered status in the scene.
These futuristic remixes, now fully re-mastered and sounding better than ever, take ‘Blacklight Sleaze’ to another level with thundering kicks, a pitch-perfect arrangement and tightrope balance between foreboding house and bone-shaking techno.
A huge anthem at Berghain, these remixes have been a favourite weapon in the record bags of many techno DJs, not to mention a regular fixture in Nina Kraviz and Rodhad’s sets… now seems the perfect time for more ‘Blacklight Sleaze’..
- A1. Revolution
- B1. JB Loop
- B2. Rear End
Play It Say It welcome New York artist David Berrie for a first EP on the label and one that offers three dynamite pieces of punchy, high impact and inventive house music.
Raised amongst the diverse culture of NYC’s nightlife, Berrie started sneaking into clubs as a youngster and since then has risen through the ranks to have now played iconic rooms like Output NY and DC-10 Ibiza. Fusing his musical history with other genres to create his own, unique style of house and techno, David has taken his passion to the studio and served up essential tunes on Hot Creation and Cuttin’ Headz.
Opening the account is ‘Revolution’, seven superbly programmed minutes of slick and involving house beats and knotted bass. It’s a restless, body shaking track to make the floor move with futuristic synths fleshing it out and bringing a vital sense of machine soul.
The equally compelling ‘JB Loop’ is another dynamic bit of electronic house music. Rubbery drums bobble and bounce about with wild computer sounds and infectious bass all ramping up the energy levels and making for a standout track.
Last but not least, ‘Rear End’ is a supple, intricately designed track with slippery synths, spinning hi hats and bass surges all wrapping around each other to make for real minimal funk. It’s a track that oozes Detroit vibes and cannot fail to sweep up the floor.
These are three characterful and masterfully produced cuts of high-class dancing music.
- A1. Hitchock
- A2. Selective Hearing
- B1. Cheriff
- B2. Dark Side Of The Moon
After a series of sonic happenings at London’s The Lion & Lamb in 2018, Bobby Pleasure’s Pleasure Club now sends its first signals out into the observable universe.
For his first solo release N-Gynn serves up a 4 track EP spanning spacey house, techno and electro. Hardware hallucinations fused with machine mysticism to produce interstellar introspection. A collection of recordings that are at once entirely familiar whilst also completely alien.
A voyage through time and space via the medium of vibrational frequency…

- A. Roller Rink Funk
- B. Roller Rink Funk
Harlem's legendary Disco label Queen Constance has long been a cult favourite among fans of underground dance music for decades.
One of many labels operating under the equally legendary P&P family of imprints Queen Constance was operated by one Peter Brown, a truly colossal figure in NYC's music scene, it's catalogue still fascinates music lovers to this day. Covering a wide range of styles including Gospel, early Rap and Disco the label's output continually finds it way into the playlists of respected DJ's and selectors across the globe. The mighty 'Roller Rink Funk' by Shift is the next reissue from the archives and never has a jam been more aptly named!
Another class act from the plethora of uptown groups that were associated with Queen Constance and her orbiting planets, Shift was possibly yet another 'studio' group put together for this one time release. The co-production nous and involvement of long-time associate Bernard Thomas lends these cuts some serious B-boy credentials. Thomas was involved in a lot of the P&P era early Rap material, as well as working with BDP and lending his skills to releases on the cult Rap label Zakia too. Needless to say, this particular release is that magic funky frisson between Disco, Funk and the earliest stirrings of Hip-Hop, an especially rich vein of music. As the title suggests this one is meant to be heard at the roller rink, the syncopated rhythms mimicking the skaters movements and repetitions. As with any good roller-skating Funk record (there are many!) it doesn't take long for you to want to hit the dance-floor, whether it's to skate or to simply get down. An often tricky record to find in it's OG state, commanding 'collectors' prices, 'Roller Rink Funk' is back on the block for all the Disco freaks for 2018. Perfect.
This is a 100% legit reissue, made in conjunction with Above Board distribution and the Demon Music group, lovingly remastered with love by Optimum Mastering, Bristol UK.
- A1. Tom Jay - La Belle
- A2. Braga Circuit - Luv U Good
- B1. Fede Lng - One At The Time
- B2. Hank YM - Nao Nao
- B3. Pacific Bureau - Turn Me On
Having been around for almost a full calendar year, the sub-label PNP has already made quite the name for itself during the past several months. Managed by producer Fede Lng, this imprint is a spin-off of his already successful parent label Axe On Wax, which is responsible for exposing the world to such artists like Kirk The Flirt, Jesse Bru, Trudge, and Mall Grab.
Although Axe On Wax specializes in a more traditional sense of house music, PNP appears to be all about the disco - a way in which Fede and his friends can release edits of their favorite tunes of old. For DJs looking to spice up their sets with unadulterated funk, look no further than their upcoming record PNP 003, which features songs by Tom Jay, Braga Circuit, Pacific Bureau, and Fede Lng himself.

- A1. Mad As Hell
- A2. Beach Feet
- B1. Be Who You Want To Be
- B2. England Is A Bitch
Banoffee Pies Records release their 8th addition to the original imprint with 4 drum ridden tracks from Bristol local Gallegos with his debut solo EP, “Mad As Hell”. As the leaders pull us towards the abyss, behind the door through which we cannot see. Into a landscape we cannot predict. Inside the realm of those we cannot control. We shout from the rooftops. This is as “Mad As Hell” and i’m not going to take it anymore. As the days and months roll on, the media repeats, the calendar clicks, and the unknown future drags itself ever closer, we question why we are here. Maybe after all it is time to move forward, the next destination, to find our “Beach Feet”. To swim against the current and paddle away. To find firmer ground. To “Be Who You Want To Be”. Tick tick goes the clock, pressure mounts. After all. Times are hard. “England Is A Bitch.” BP x

Topher Horn follows with a bassline driven remix, with dubbed out vox and percussion. - A. Rio Grande (Space Version)
- B. Rio Grande (Jungle Version)
Released via Gigi’s aforementioned World Peace Music imprint, the stunning Rio Grande is exactly the sort of release you’d imagine would make an impression in the sets of many of the world’s knowledgable DJs. Inspired by and dedicated to Puerto Rico’s El Yungue National Forest, it came about as a result of Gigi’s many sound excursions to the stunning part. Recording nature sounds and always looking to unique places for inspiration, the release is presented by two versions: one deeper, electronic version and another that’s more leaning toward latin jazz pastures.
First up is the quite exquisite sounds of the Rio Grande (Space Version). A bouncing house gem that’s imbued with charm from the get-go, this one is a firm dancefloor groover that’s sure to get floors smiling and dancing in unison. The sort of track you can’t but love, it rolls to a quite brilliant crescendo, and is full of joy from the off. A complete dancefloor anthem that’s undoubtedly going to turn heads very soon.
On the flip side we have the sounds of the ‘Jungle’ version. This one is more stripped back but retains the original’s good-time baseline. Another joyous interpretation, it provides the spine of the Space Version, and is a lethal jam in its own right with a series of manic horns and electric guitar licks that lend it an almost rock and roll aesthetic and lift it to higher planes in the process. Distributed by Joe Claussell’s Atypical Dopeness, this is music with serious heart and personality.

Far away from trends and expectations, Shiffer is creating unique dance music with a certain depth and warmth. We know Mark for quite some time now and we remember talking to him about a possible appearance on the label right after we started. - A Who Got Da Props? (Evil Dee's Deadly Mix)
- B Who Got Da Props? (Evil Dee's Deadly Instrumental)
The first in a series of all-time CLASSIC hip-hop anthems from the Nervous vaults, pressed onto high quality dinked 45's.
Remastered from the original source material and featuring the unedited 'dirty' version on the A-side, and the full instrumental on the B-side, these 45's are for the heads who know what time it really is!
Black Moon's 'Who Got The Props' needs no introduction, it's place in hip-hop history is fully solidified. The combination of vintage Beatminerz SP1200 beats paired with the legendary MC's Buckshot and the 5 Ft. Accelerator's streetwise NYC raps is a heady mixture indeed. Often speaking of street life in New York in the 1990's, Black Moon gained cult status via their 1993 debut LP 'Enta Da Stage', one of the most celebrated hip-hop debut albums of all time. The Beatminerz production changed the game, their deep knowledge and understanding of samples, records and digging in the crates gave their sound a real style and edge. 'Who Got Da Props' is the perfect example of this, one of those timeless rap records that appeals to the hardcore and can ignite the party. Truly essential. Every home should have one (or 2!).
Fully legit, licensed and reissued by Above Board distribution in conjunction with Nervous Records, NYC. 2018.
