The result sounds authentic to the original that was only ever broadcast on Kiss FM by Colin Favor.

For the last 20 years London-based author and party organiser Tim Lawrence has dedicated himself to excavating the history of New York City party culture and bringing some of the most powerful aspects of that culture to London’s dance scene, from where it has ricocheted around the world. Having conducted the first set of major interviews with David Mancuso, Lawrence started to put on Loft-style Lucky Cloud Sound System parties with David and friends in London in June 2003. In early 2004 he published Love Saves the Day: A History of American Dance Music Culture, 1970-79, which tracked the influence of the Loft on the wider New York DJ, dance and disco scene. In 2009 his biography of the iconic musician Arthur Russell became the first book to map the wider downtown music scene. These beautifully written and politically insightful histories have educated, inspired and celebrated the previously overlooked foundations of contemporary dance music.

Lawrence’s most recent publication, Life & Death On The New York Dancefloor, 1980 – 1983, published in late 2016, shines a light on 'one of the most dynamic and creative periods in the history of New York City'. Falling between the more regularly celebrated sounds of disco, house and techno, the period produced a uniquely hybrid series of sounds that never acquired a settled name. This led them to be largely ignored by historians and even DJs, yet the power of the period’s music and the scenes it birthed, Lawrence argues, remains undeniable. Met with a rapturous response, Life and Death On The New York Dance Floor saw Lawrence on the road for most of the next year as he spread the word about the characters, the records, the clubs and the bands that shaped the post-Disco, post-Punk, and burgeoning Hip Hop landscapes of New York City during the early 1980s—a period when freedom still ruled.

This, the second of a 2-part sonic tribute to the 1980 – 1983 era as well as a musical companion piece to Life & Death On The New York Dance Floor, sees recognised classics (such as 'Don’t Make Me Wait’ and ‘Din Daa Daa') nestle up alongside the belatedly recognised (including the August Darnell remix of ‘Contort Yourself’ and Mark Kamins remix of ‘Love Tempo') and the downright obscure (‘Vena Cava’ and the B-side of the ‘Pop Your Funk’ 7” promo). Capturing the range and the mayhem, Material’s under-appreciated ‘Bustin’ Out’ features Nona Hendryx delivering lyrics inspired by Black Panther George Jackson’s prison letters plus a music track featuring dance beats combined with a heavy electric guitar—a combination proposed by Michael Zilkha after the ZE label head rejected Bill Laswell’s first effort. The mix comes courtesy of Better Days resident DJ Tee Scott. Everyone, it seemed, was open to everything.

Lovingly curated across 2 slabs of vinyl, the album introduces listeners to a stunning array of sounds, styles, vibes and feelings that encapsulate this most fertile and forward-thinking era, when music, fashion, sound system innovations, leaps in music technology, a DIY attitude and a freedom from corporate politics combined with extraordinary expressivity. All music contained within this album has been hand-picked and programmed by Tim Lawrence. It represents a selective yet rich introduction to one of the most extraordinary periods in New York City’s epic musical history.

This is the first release on Reappearing Records, a label led by Tim Lawrence and distributed worldwide by Above Board distribution. Licensing courtesy of Tracksuit Music. Mastering by Optimum Mastering, Bristol UK. Artwork & design courtesy of Atelier Superplus. 2018.

    1. A1. Tell Ya Something (Extended Mix)

We’re both over the moon and at the same time sad to have this track with us on Food Music, as we wave goodbye to one of UK house music’s most talented duos. After releasing their sublime ‘Tell Ya Something’ with us, Mak & Pasteman will be calling it a day to focus on personal projects and what a way to sign off.

This looped up disco thumper tops the tree when it comes to the right vibe and production, and as if this wasn’t enough, house legend Junior Sanchez joins the digital package with a huge rework and completes the perfect send off for Craig and Matt.

Thanks for choosing us to close your huge musical chapter - and we hope you won’t be missing for too long!

Black Label Series 03 on Banoffee Pies Records welcomes new additions to the fold with another low slung collection of minimal house and breaks. Opening with patient mystery the label debut from Monotronique delivers 118 bpm sample heavy “Baggage With A Secret”. Nicely warmed, the A2 turns for the floor with Freerotation resident Tom Ellis in control on “Third Morning”, a groovy roller with glitched vocal loops. The curveball of this release comes on the B1 with a garage inspired high tempo d&b track, “23 Ghettobee” from Filip Szostak - One to cool or shake the dance. The B2 invites Lyssna Records own Flord King with another micro gem for the head bopping late nights on “Shanti”. Together the four tracks investigating different moods with a similar style. BP X

Phreax was a project born out of the friendship of Ade Pressly and Guy Buss, two rockers-turned-ravers by the acid house and balearic explosion of late 80's London. The pair started off as dancers, frequenting Spiral Tribe's countryside raves, Colin Dale and Colin Faber's Knowledge at SW1 Club and the Drum Club at Soundshaft. Inspired by this new sonic palette, drum kits were traded for drum machines and the guys pieced together a studio with gear acquired from the then-defunct BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Between 1995 and 1997 Phreax penned three 12”s of wonky, experimental techno for Charlie Hall's M.C. Projects imprint. The last, 1997's Jitterballz EP, was the culmination of their hardware explorations. Fusing Moog synth lines with classic Roland drum boxes and the complexity of arrangement allowed by Cubase, Ade and Guy forged a heady but floor-functional record that still stands out as a monument to techno experimentalism. Wafting synths, eerie melody and complex beat programming combine to form a refreshingly unselfconscious and timeless recording. Over twenty years later we are happy to again present this fantastic EP to the dance floors of 2018.

Sit down in your comfiest jawn, strap those noise-cancelling jawns on and prepare for those jawns in your eye sockets to tumble out your head when you hear this collection of thumping jawns whipped up by Philadelphia’s BPMF. One half of legendary electro duo Synapse with John Selway (who he co-runs the equally-esteemed Serotonin imprint with), BPMF has been churning out no-nonsense electro smangers and experimental techno since the early 90s. Currently he holds the title of Eastern Pennsylvania’s premier live-PA electro dad while also running his own label, Schmer. Various Jawns is exactly that; four varied jawns packed on one plate. ‘Tell Mommy Bye’ is an electro ripper in the true American lineage while ‘Trunq’ and ‘J’pn’ are lighter, more noodling affairs. This plate’s entrée, ‘House of Jawn’, is a fourteen-minute knob-twiddling trip through the twisted fever dream of a raver long past. Thankfully our esteemed producer has given us a respite from the beatdown about halfway through. Drop the needle there to start the adventure at the Lower House of Jawn if brevity is your thing, man.

Family is a sometimes great, if big, notion. Hard to sustain, most often dysfunctional. At LDDLM, we do not put pressure on anyone, and certainly not ourselves. But bounds are sometimes tightened, some artists we would never consider ours, but most certainly as closed friends.

This is the 3rd EP (a house record) by Antoine Harispuru aka GOLDEN BUG but the first, excitement renewed, in company of IN FIELDS.

They push the boundaries of GB’s trademark ghost funk on this EP: BONES features once again Diego Hdez for a smacked out yet epic pop number (we would not call it shoegaze). CRACKS dissolves its ethnic funk into pure psychedelia, SHAKES dubbing itself out into oblivion. All in all, 3 strong bongs. Finally FANTASTIC TWINS (Hippie Dance/Optimo/Microdosing) builds her own wall of sound, expanding BONES into a mind bending prison.

Turn on, tune in, never drop out.

Radio Slave welcomes UK techno talent Roberto to Rekids to deliver the latest installment in the‘Special Projects’ series as he opens 2019 with his ‘Let’s Be Free’ EP.

Based in London, Roberto aka Rob Kirkaldy is one of the latest names of note to emerge from the capital’s ever-impressing electronic music scene having showcased his rich blend of deep and immersing techno via a host of esteemed imprints including ARTS, Fachwerk and his own label Fossil Archive, founded in 2015, in recent years. Following a string of performances across revered establishments including fabric, Tresor, Culture Box and Berghain, 2019 will open with a debut outing on Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint as he delivers four entrancing techno cuts in the form of his ‘Let’s Be Free’ EP, set to drop in late January as part of the label’s Special Projects series.

‘The Jester’ opens the EP as Kirkaldy fuses slick, crisp percussion amongst murky swells and everdeveloping, dubby chord arrangements, whilst ‘Tonic’ continues this aesthetic as transcendental melodies meet deep kicks and delicate hats to reveal a captivating journey across six and a half minutes.

On the flip, ‘The Days Are Longer Now’ utilises a skillful balance of emotive synths and refined kicks to deliver the most up front production of the package, before title cut ‘Lets Be Free’ closes proceedings as resonant melodies and paired back organic percussion patterns ebb and flow amongst pockets of intricate sound design to conclude yet another impressive release on the Berlin based imprint.

EXTERIOR is the artist moniker of Edinburgh producer Doug MacDonald. Exterior represents his transition to electronic music and an embrace of the dancefloor. Doug played hardcore and noise-rock for a long time before eventually abandoning collaboration, nostalgia and formulaic rebellion in favour of synthesis. What he gained on the way was an understanding of the power of live drumming and years of finely honed performance-skills, something of an aberration in dance music.

Exterior thus represents a convergence of disparate personal and musical pleasures. Accordingly Exterior draws on rhythmic mavericks as divergent as Fugazi//Battles//Swans as well as DJ Spoko//Clark//Hieroglyphic Being. In addition, there is a deep undercurrent of melody and texture, drawing on the likes of Burial//Miles Davis//Bjork. Eschewing the modern home computer in favour of an exclusively hardware based approach, Exterior espouses a physical relationship to what is at heart an abstract practice, composing electronic dance music.

Perhaps it’s unsurprising, then, that one of the things which really sets Exterior apart is his intoxicating live show. He gets the crowd going every single time he performs, so infectious is his energy, as he throws shapes and struts his stuff behind the gear, clearly 100% in the moment and his element.

His debut EP 'Public Transport' was released on London/Barcelona-based Land Recordings earlier in 2018. Having made his international headlining debut in Berlin in September, more continental sorties are currently being arranged (see below).

This record represents a significant move forward in sophistication and club-readiness.

On remix duties, anonymous analogue techno lover DALI returns on the back of four slices of extended club gear released via two Hobbes Music 12"s (2017-18), boasting colour-themed, screen-printed sleeves and an uber-simple design for that evergreen minimal aesthetic with a hint of mystique. These gained excited support/plays from the likes of Ben UFO, Nina Kraviz, Daniel Avery, DJ Deep, Laurent Garnier, Avalon Emerson, Twitch, XDB, Bill Brewster, Bawrut, Tom Findlay (Groove Armada) and many more... Clocking in (again) at just over 9 minutes, her 'Collapsing Star' remix is another marathon-length effort and does exactly what it says on the tin. Setting the beats to classic electro, everything's pushed hard until it all seems ready to fall rapidly apart (and it very nearly does), before dissolving in a fiery sizzle: a more visceral, dance floor accompaniment to Exterior's heady affair.

'This is great... (Original & DALI remix)' LAURENT GARNIER
'I actually kinda like Let Them Come To You best’ AVALON EMERSON
    'Good stuff! JD TWITCH (OPTIMO)
    'Great release' NIGHTWAVE
'PSOP is a banger. Hard funky. Fresh!' HOSTAGE
'Sounds good! Keep up the great work :-)' MICK WILLS
'Yeah this is aaaceee! I like all of them to be fair. I love the ambient choir vocals in the first track. And the kick is nice, something I'd play definitely. But then, I also like the electro mix. I think I'd be playing both definitely! And the other two are very James Holden. Very nice!' IDA
'Like the most bonkers party you've been to ever - and we want an invite... captivating release, pointing to a bright Exterior future. 8/10' MIXMAG

    1. A1. Sound Test
    2. A2. Shabak Shalom
    3. B1. Kookoo Papa

Following their hugely well-received, refreshingly outlandish debut EP for Phantasy, Israeli club outsiders Red Axes return to the label with another three-track delight of leftfield dance entitled ‘Sound Test’.
Debuting on Phantasy in 2018, ‘Sipoor’ by Red Axes was massive. The release received critical acclaim, not to mention heavy support within the club realm from DJs like Call Super, Jennifer Cardini, Ewan Pearson, Fort Romeau, Massimiliano Pagliara, Chloe, and many more.
Highly soughtafter by those who’ve heard Erol Alkan unleash it in recent months, ‘Sound Test’ kickstarts Phantasy Sound’s 2019 - a rolling tool for a dance floor sliding into another dimension, constructed around a dramatic, numeric countdown. A minimal, skeletal build builds (and builds!) throughout to one of the most out-there breakdowns in recent rave-blotted memory, as the Axes slowly but surely rebuild their house to even more outlandish new proportions. Ten, nine, eight, seven...
‘Shabak Shalom’ quickly snatches the record back from outer space and drags it deep into the basement, zoning in on the gritter, strobe-ready sound that defines the duo’s most club-ready work. All of the Axes’ weapons of choice are deployed as unusually as per usual; militant drums, battered electronics, fucked- frequencies, wiry post-punk guitar lines and lovingly drowned traditional instruments blend to create their own special, slightly-menacing interpretation of hi-NRG.
Finally, on the unapologetically sprawling and immediately effective closing number, ‘Kookoo Pa-pa’, Red Axes demonstrate their inherent talent, if proof were ever needed, of conjuring rolling, simmering tension in otherworldly shades. Those who enjoyed the cartoonish motor FX of ‘Teroof’ will be delighted to find themselves found into an even wackier race this time round, hitting on the origins of Chicago jack, acid meltdowns and screeching no-wave.

South London's TROY TOWN once again draws from the local talent pool to follow the Wbeeza EP. This release opens up the detailed percussive and wide-eyed, rave-influenced productions of Copper Green Sedan.
The multi-instrumentalist was living a nomadic life through northern Europe formulating the key ideas of the EP from the back of a campervan before rounding them off back in the studio. The resulting three track EP that was delivered to us conveys a hectic melancholy.
‘Pedestrian’ is a driving, breaksy opener. It’s sympathetic to the groovers on the dance floor and the thick chords balance the snappy percussion. 'Rolling in the Long Grass' is a glitchy trip through a meadow. Finally, ‘Gene’ is a dusty, hands-in-the-air banger destined to reignite a jaded dance floor as the sun comes up. Man of the moment Desert Sound Colony (Holding Hands/Touch From a Distance) lays down a beautifully bionic 'Pedestrian' edit to round off the EP.

Whether that conjures connotations of an early morning fight, too much indulgence or poor flash photography, we’ve all had many red eye experiences in our lifetimes. And we’re about to get a hell of a lot more as Guti blesses us with his own take on affairs…

‘Red Eye’ is the second track from Guti’s highly anticipated album ‘The Year Of The Conga’. The first ever artist album to drop on The Martinez Brothers’ Cuttin’ Headz imprint, the LP captures Guti’s return to his roots. A raw, honest document of straight up percussive, hypnotic house grooves, the album took root in Japan and was largely developed during his time in the Dominican Republic jungle, sampling native instruments. Everything about it; the rhythms, the instrumentation, the warmth and soul are Guti down to his deepest dancefloor DNA.

‘Red Eye’ sums this spirit up perfectly. Following the inaugural album single ‘So Dope’, once again we’re taken deep inside the Argentinian’s psyche with rolling beats, a lolloping low-riding bassline and an evocative spoken word woven deep into the hip-slinking mix. The remixes hit the spot, too…

Close friend and techno ally Loco Dice steps up first with an absolute missile of a mix. A heady, driving affair loaded and coded with a powerful bumping bottom end hook, it’s a hearty nod to the sound Loco Dice championed over 10 years ago. But, as always with the Desolat don, things take a turn for the trippy, just when you least expect it. Romanian roustabout Priku also delivers something very special; stripped-back to a lithe naked groove and honed with restraint and subtlety, without realising, Priku has captured the essence of Guti’s whole album and where his heart, mind and soul are at right now…. Deep in the spirit of a conga rhythm.

Stay tuned for more Conga communiques as the release, the heat and the expectations build up into 2019.

Visionquest embark on a brand-new voyage as founding member Shaun Reeves takes the mantle once again. Reuniting with kindred spirit Tuccillo for another no-rules, boundary-blurring session, it’s their most explorative collab EP to date.

Picking up where previous collaborations such as ‘Seclusions’ and ‘Smile’ left us, the lead track ‘Shade’ reminds us of the duo’s innate ability to lure you deep into their groove unwittingly. Misty, and pensive, this one’s deep coded with unmistakable Visionquest atmospherics as each element gradually unfolds.

Elsewhere amid the ageless shadows we have the stark, sensual stripped-back struts of ‘Cavernous’, an uplifting piece where a restrained-yet-bumping groove is laced with garage style vocals and a sublime synth twist midway. Deeper again we strike more mystic noir….

‘Superstitions’ rolls out over a stately 8+ minutes, building gradually with percussive hypnosis and the dark art of subtlety while ‘Tessera’ brings the EP to a close with strong levels of funk and feel good. A reference to their own collaborative project Shantu, it’s a devilish fusion of velvet android bass, evocative humanised textures and beat that draws you in but leaves more than enough room on this voyage to take in each perfectly considered and sculpted element. Enjoy the view…

    1. A. An Ungrateful Death
    2. B. Pacific Gold

R&S welcome Parisian Sacha Khalife AKA Shcaa with his new double headed single 'An Ungrateful Death / Pacific Gold', following up on his stellar EP on NYC's Blank Slate back in 2015, two killer releases through Archipel and a more recent LP on Sharingtones.

Abstract, deep and dripping with atmosphere, 'An Ungrateful Death' takes the listener on an epic trippy journey -  sensuous rhythms and choppy guitars giddly colide while mumbled vocals offer a dreamy counterpoint before the whole piece transitions into an uneasily blissed out ambient coda. On the flip 'Pacific Gold' continues the abstraction, freeform guitar licks skitter and bounce around a loose limbed micro-house groove.

A producer, composer and guitarist based in Paris, Khalife's restless musicality manages to uniquely meld electronics with blues, house and jazz without seeming forced. "My music found its first legitimacy within the structure of house music, the grooves as rails to let free peculiar shades," he explains "I try to not  allow my music to fall into mindless experimentations, hopefully the graphic rhythms justify their abstraction."

With ‘An Ungrateful Death / Pacific Gold’ sure to delight and confound dancefloors across the continent, it’s going to be interesting to see where Shcaa takes his music next.

Born the 26th of October 1956 in Aïn Azel near the Algerian city of Sétif, Nourdine Staïfi, real name Larbi Smati, was very young when he emigrated to the French Chambéry region.
After having recorded 'Sraoui' style songs, his real devotion as a singer took place in 1978 when publishing the song 'El Ghorba S'hiba', a disco version of a traditional East-Algerian piece. This song would revolutionize the modern Algerian music, and made Nordine one of its most important protagonists of the 1980s.
For nearly ten years he dedicated himself to the modernization of his music, traversed by the themes of exile, love and the nostalgia of his country.
Nourdine Staïfi died prematurely on December 17th 1989 in France, at the age of 33.

Ice cold synths, stuttering drum machines and melodic motifs grace this 12", all lovingly collaged and channelled through Morken's own unique style and sound. 2 tracks of hardware laced expressionism recorded in Oslo at his home studio and spread across a side each on a super nice 12" pressing. For the uninitiated, Morken has long been a representative of Norway's dance music underground and his reputation as Jaegers weekly resident DJ in Oslo has earned him worldwide respect where he has booked Theo Parrish, Levon Vincent, Mark E, Beautiful Swimmers, Mark Seven, Ron Morelli, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Hunee, Floating Points & loads more! With very tight links with Sex Tags, Todd Terje and Prins Thomas and with releases on Olsen, LIES, Full Pupp & Mysticisms, Øyvind is a very busy man! Originally released on White House Records. Remastered from digital masters by Robert Macciochi with full restored cover done by myself. This EP should need no introduction to Ravers as often cited as an Anthem (whatever that means to you, to me that just means classic and good and still worth hearing any day again and again).

"Baptised By Dub" was originally on World Beat Records with "Virtual Reality" on the flip side and later licensed to White House Records with other tracks and the totally different but equally awesome Re Baptised By Dub by DJ Halo. This Ravers favourite has never been reissued on vinyl in its original 4 track form. it did make it to a White House Classics series but only Baptised By Dub and not the greatest quality.

According to DJ Spatts the DAT's were misplaced in the 90's and only unearthed again in 2014 when I searched the Warehouse. All CD licensed versions on compilations are allegedly a vinyl rip supplied by White House. These official DIGITAL remasters were issued to TCM Records as digital only. This is your first chance to get your hands on what will definitely be the best vinyl reproduction of this music since it's original release in 1992.

    1. A1. The Rapture
    2. B1. Solaris

It's been quite a wait for new &ME material here on Keinemusik. But these two new cuts, adding to our catalogue number KM046, sure have been worth waiting for. The EP starts with „The Rapture Pt.II“ and as the title already suggests, it coherently takes up where his last original material had left us, in a stirred state of sweet, harmony-kissed affection. Known as a virtuoso of sound-details, &ME lives up to that reputation, implementing fine synth-elements and temperately rattling percussions, all conjoined by shimmering layers and, of course, an ultimately heart-melting Piano improvisation that at some point will play along to the rhythm of its synthetic brother to a finale that will leave no crowd untouched.
"Solaris" on the flipside adds indeed a futuristic note to the arrangement, opening up with a broken beat and propelling claps. A cut that, as much as its predecessor, is relying on flow and organic shifts rather than forced and peaktime formatted gimmickry, adding a synth arpeggio, white noise, vocal chants and harmonies in a rather subtle way. Nevertheless, it unfolds a compelling strength to heat the dancefloor gradually through its playtime.

We are pleased to present you the second EP of the infernal duo INTERNACIONAL ELECTRICAL RHYTHMS formed of Trikk and Mathias Schober.

Let’s dive right in and start with "Azaka" and it’s live recorded percussions. This track just builds and builds until it falls back into that irresistible and sexy main groove. It reminds a bit of old DJ Gregory tracks - just 10 BPM less. Some would even say it is epic, we wouldn’t argue though. Anyways, it serves the dance floor well and proved it many times in the past.

The second track "Kosanba" keeps the EP in balance. "Kosanba" sounds more like a Sci-Fi movie soundtrack at first listen. A basic rhythm built around a modular sequence, upright piano, washed out guitars and an eerie spacey melody with tons of reverb form a track that still works in a club context, yet it’s definitely one of those tracks for the right moments as it sets a different tone for sure.

Bruno and Mathias sure continue what they’ve started so well last year with their INTERNACIONAL ELECTRICAL RHYTHMS disguise.

All Day I Dream has been spreading its musical rhythm and tone's through it's summer residencies in New York and Los Angeles the past few years as well as through the label. The forth release has been a summer anthem at the parties this year, and with it we welcome the two new family members behind them to ADID. Maher Daniel's presence is rising steadily and you'll be hearing a lot more from our bright star. How he has time to A+R for the label AND create beautiful melodic tracks of this caliber is beyond us but we're glad he's onboard. Gab Rhome appeared on our radar last year with his brilliant release on Suppliment fact and we knew, when we met, it would be a match made in heaven and not simply a fleeting affair. Both artists are dreamers. We love dreamers Maher and Gab weave a timeless quality in to 'farewell at the gates of dawn'. Beautiful, mournful and musical. The track speaks for itself. After working on Farewell Gab was unable to persuade Maher to stop watching reruns of Bay watch and come in to the studio. Alone he created 'Sometimes it goes one way'. Crunchy and pretty with a longing feel to it's vocal it's a fine partner to the A side daydream.

Presenting the long sought after, groundbreaking and classic 1990 UK long-player finally remastered and reissued for 2018.

London's Warriors Dance label was a unique operation and a pioneering London label during the late 80's acid house phenomena. Home to an assortment of DJs, MCs and soundmen, they went on to make their own original and indelible mark on the rave scene from the infamous 'Addis Ababa' studio on Harrow Road on the North-West side of the city. A former reggae and soul studio that was instrumental to the output of influential artists like Soul II Soul and more, a steady diet of reggae, bass, hip-hop, house and techno kept their edgy, and diehard UK sound and style right at the cutting edge of the dance music underground across the globe with the top DJs and producers of the day celebrating the label. The studio, helmed by label owner Tony ‘Addis’, acted as an incubator for artists whose names would go down in the history books - No Smoke, Bang The Party, The Addis Posse, Melancholy Man, Hollywood Beyond, The Housemaids and more all featured heavily on the label and contributed to its legendary output. The attitude and approach to the music was utterly and unapologetically a London thing, with heavy African and Caribbean influences also drawing on the sounds emanating from Chicago, Detroit and further afield. Years later, and with the advent of the internet, Discogs, Youtube and any other digital platform you'd care to mention, Warriors Dance continues to be discovered and rediscovered again by curious diggers and music heads with a thirst for heavyweight tracks to play in their DJ sets. This saw the WD mythology rise again, making their records much sought after by fans from all over the world.

When 'International Smoke Signal' landed in 1990 there was nothing else quite like it in the musical landscape, the perfect sonic example of the Warriors Dance ethos and style incorporating all of the influences and grooves that made the label's output so unique, a sound heavily inspired by the preceding period in London and the UK where hip-hop, soul, reggae, rare groove and acid house were played side by side in the warehouses and empty spaces of former industrial areas. Throughout the late 1980's these often drab and dangerous places were transformed by local DJ crews like Soul II Soul and Shake ’N’ Fingerpop with more to offer those looking for an open-minded party scene new places to explore, in turn switching people on to broader styles of music. It's all in here, the heavy breakbeat driven B-boy house flavour of the album version of the classic 'Koro Koro', the Manu Dibango featuring tribal acid groove of 'International Smoke Signal' to the percussive and ultra-deep stylings of 'Oh Yes (Freedom)' the LP encapsulate a time and place yet continue to capture the imagination today. Timeless music. There's no doubt the No Smoke project is a direct influence on the deeper, tribal house sounds around today and pioneered the afro house sound alongside ‘Yeke Yeke’, ‘Motherland’ etc as the acid house phenomenon swept the world. ‘Koro Koro’ is the omnipresent anthem which was broken at London clubs like Confusion by Bang The Party’s Kid Batchelor and RIP which went on to blow up in New York, and was then signed by Profile Records. Hugely sampled and still played to this day.
'International Smoke Signal' fuses the otherworldly science of dub and reggae with Bronx breakbeats, synth laden ambient house excursions and the heartbeat of mother Africa with the technoid thrum of the motor city effortlessly, all while maintaining its London roots and swagger. A true dance music masterpiece. This is the first time the LP has been remastered and reissued, spread across 2 heavy slabs of high quality vinyl for maximum sonic impact. Made in conjunction with the Warriors Dance family and Tony Addis.

Special thanks to Nicky Trax & Tony Addis. Remastered by Optimum Mastering, Bristol UK. Proudly distributed by Above Board distribution. 2018.

With previous releases on Neil Diablo’s To Rack & Ruin, Tsuba, Is It Balearic? and Robsoul Recordings, Bratley’s Futureboogie debut opens with the searing synths and chugging arped bass of “99.9%”. Wide-eyed melodies and punchy drums demand a mirror ball moment to this fabulous cut.

Family favourite, Andrew Weatherall, takes the chugging tempo to new depths, remolding “99.9%” into a tense, reverb soaked, dubbed out sci-fi encounter.

Further explorations into space disco are to be found on “Italo Love” with luscious waves of thick analogue sound and planetary FX, whilst on “Take Me To Bedford Or Lose Me Forever”, distinct Asian influences are at play, as Bratley channels his inner Vangelis for a mesmerizing and cinematic piece.
