Juan Ramos opens his debut album with The Problem With Ambiguity and Finding Space—speaking to a societal confusion, a fragmented sense of self, and a pull toward many (often unwelcoming) directions—this turmoil in which he’s spent considerable time, sees him invest grave efforts to express the inexpressible. Changing Hands is a time capsule of that dark period in his life, an overtly honest musical diary which puts his emotional coming-of-age on full display, hoping to reach kindred listeners. While his previous output for the ESP Institute used a certain level of complication to push limits on the dancefloor, this immersive work cuts deep in to a frayed psyche, dismantling our preconceptions of Juan and plunging listeners deep into a stew of jarring textures, incomplete phrases, and circus-like abstractions of pop culture. There is a nonchalant and unhurried experimentation that accumulates over the album’s first half—disconnected and anxiety-riddled personality traits constitute various musical roles, sporadically converging in fleeting moments of optimism although never fully climbing out from the abyss—and yet amidst this chaos there is a watershed moment in which the artist successfully gleans a golden morsel of hope from his emotional junkyard, guiding us across the threshold into the album’s second half while diligently protecting the glow of this rock bottom treasure. Juan begins to reveal his inner b-boy—a distorted view on golden-age Hip Hop roots, an affinity for muddy break-beats, sultry loops and metaphoric interludes—the crown prince of a newly-found safe space. It’s as if he had us searching on all fours for a misplaced joint, but now that it’s finally lit, he assures us that everything’s going to be alright.

From Chicago, Detroit and New York to London, Croydon and beyond, Mint Condition have got their expert digging hats on to bring you exclusive heat and those rarer than rare jams that have been on your wants list for years! Dig in....

Here we are again, in the company of the beautiful Deanne Day - D and A = David and Andrew. Was one of several production pseudonyms used by David Harrow and Andrew Weatherall. This all happened in the mid 1990's here in London, and now, in 2019, the spotlight has swung back around on these beautiful nuggets of soul mined from the street corners of an East London long gone. Shifting, trippy, vocal driven and dubby minimal house jams are what's on offer here sir, sound good? You're in great company with this lot. Proper pre-millennium jams on this 12", contemporary classics. These tracks sound like they've just been beamed down earlier this week and will still do ultimate damage inna dance, guaranteed.

This, the second of 2 Deanne Day reissues, has been legitimately re-released with the full involvement of Emissions Audio Output and all license holders for 2019 and remastered by Bristol's Optimum Mastering from the original DAT tapes especially for Mint Condition, courtesy of Lord Sabre & co.100% legit, licensed and released. From Chicago, Detroit and New York to London, Croydon and beyond, Mint Condition have got their expert digging hats on to bring you exclusive heat and those rarer than rare jams that have been on your wants list for years! Dig in....

Deanne Day is the unlikely monicker of one Andrew Weatherall in collaboration with heavyweight keys man David Harrow. Although sounding like a long lost blitz era beauty or 1950's screen starlet, it's actually 2 blokes jamming in the studio well into the wee hours, to stunning effect! Rewind back to 1995, East London, a lot of people reading this weren't even born then, but believe you me 'deep house' was a real and actual thing and Lord Sabre and crew were at the forefront of it all. Originally released on the Emissions Lo-Fi label, an umbrella operation of the monstrous Emissions Audio Output empire, 'The Day After EP' was like a bolt from the blue. Classy, grown up, accomplished even, but still seductive, narcotic and soulful as f*ck, the whole record was a wondrous collision of dubwise sensibilities, dark basement raves and that late night spark of energy we're all still chasing now, some 20 odd years later. House music, eh? Pretty potent stuff. You need this record in your collection, and the other Deanne Day one. More about that later though!

This, the first of 2 Deanne Day reissues, has been legitimately re-released with the full involvement of Emissions Audio Output and all license holders for 2019 and remastered by Bristol's Optimum Mastering from the original DAT tapes especially for Mint Condition, courtesy of Lord Sabre & co.100% legit, licensed and released. Bicep continue to develop their Feel My Bicep imprint and follow up releases from Hammer, 808 State and Cromby with a 12" from a fresh signee: James Shinra.

With over 10 years experience in releasing music, James is an artist with a broad sound palette - evinced clearly in his 2018 LP 'Vital Heat' within which he astutely turned his hand to everything from 'laid back piano pieces to frenetic breakbeat workouts'.

Having also previously remixed Kiwi duo Sandboards on FMB008 he now captures a distinctly Feel My Bicep tone in bringing together 2 impassioned tracks suffused with 80's character. Cleverly structured and melodically complex, they showcase his skilful synth-work perfectly.

Also included is a robust interpretation of Arc from 50Weapons and R&S affiliate Benjamin Damage as well as a balmy remix of Signs from the legendary John Beltran fresh from his Placid Angles album earlier this year.

    1. A1. Weird Science
    2. A2. Otis
    3. B1. Flowtec
    4. B2. Tomodachi

For his sophomore effort with the Visionquest family, Bodj teams up with fellow Greek native and audio engineer, Roksi, to create the Weird Science EP.

The four track EP starts with title track "Weird Science". The slow burner emerges with etherial pads, tight percussion and warm sub bass, as toms and a reverb drenched vocal emerges. Atonal synths pop in and squelch as the track drives forward, keeping the uptempo momentum high. A2, "Otis AX", keeps the tempo poppin', with beautiful chords dropping in, supported by a nice, round bass that bumps the pads along as synths enter and sprinkle away. The track stays bouncy with chopped arpeggiated synths, tactfully dipping their toe in the water.

The B1, "Flowtec", indulges the listener in the dirtier, late night club vibe that we all enjoy so much, while minimal textures, murky vox and bleeps and synths stab in and out. Minor chord rhodes stabs pop in and out until deep pads fill out the sound in a luxurious way to finish out the track, without losing any of the steam it started with. "Tomodachi" rounds out the EP, keeping the vibes high and quick with another dope bassline. This offering stays true to the bassline and delayed chord stabs, and acts more as a bumping dj tool for the release, sure to keep the vibe going. One things for sure this standout release won't be putting anyone to bed!

Hailing from Athens, Bodj is an essential character in the ever bourgeoning Greek house music scene, holding down a residency at the illustrious Six Dogs club in Athens and a co-founder/owner of the Audiorama record label and club night. He has played all over the world, including on lineups with famed Dj's such as Nina Kraviz, Dyed Soundorom, Levon Vincent, Dan Ghenacia and Magda, and released on labels such as his own Audiorama, Ruis, Claap, Sleep Is Commercial, Novus and Movida. His previous EP for the Visionquest camp came on their vinyl only imprint "Visionquest Special Editions" in Fall of 2017. Roksi an esteemed Greek audio engineer and music producer based in Athens Greece.

Having been classically trained since he was a young man John has since then mastered his craft studying audio engineering in Athens, London and Amsterdam which he had access to some of the most renowned music studios. He performs as a live act at top notch Greek spots such as six dogs club and Cannibal Radio.

Despite being one of the best kept secrets in house music, K4B Records is one of the most influential labels of the 90’s. Now the impressive discography is available digitally for the first time, with each record written and produced by Kingsley O. An Englishman of West-African heritage, Kingsley had moved to the states to pursue his musical aspirations of working with the finest soul vocalists, and his productions went on to inspire dancefloors both sides of the pond. Kingsley wrote some of the most loved songs of the 90’s underground, and by bringing emotive vocals to the dancefloor he defined the K4B sound. The sharp and rugged drums, rolling bass and melodic keys paired with the dynamite punchy vocals of amazing vocalists, such as Maydie Myles and Dawn Tallman, found success on the US Garage scene as well as being hugely influential as UKG began to explode, cementing K4B’s musical legacy in the house music hall of fame.

This special 2 x 12” vinyl package offers a consolidated dose of some of the standout records released by K4B from two of their most prominent artists, Maydie Myles and K London Posse. Whether this is a revisit to K4B’s catalogue or an introduction to new listeners, this first edition of a series of vinyl releases is the perfect way to dip your toes into the illustrious back-catalogue of this legendary label.

Their music shines particularly bright in the summer, when their driving percussions impact even bigger during outdoor festivals and in the European summer clubbing markets. For their new release on Nervous, they have found a song initially released by DJ Michael Flume in 2001 called Agolele. While the release had limited exposure in its initial release, Chus & Ceballos were inspired by the authentic tribal flavor and inspired instrumentation, and saw a vision of how they could turn this into a 2019 summer club anthem. The result is out now exclusively on a Nervous Records vinyl release.

Lee Burridge has teamed up with Belgian vocalist Lost Desert for Melt - the British-born artist’s debut studio album, released via his own All Day I Dream imprint on 19th July.

Underpinned by downtempo melodies and understated grooves, the 10-track LP seeks to recapture the feel of Burridge’s fabled All Day I Dream parties, and features collaborations with contemporaries Simon Vuarambon and Junior. The mysterious Lost Desert, real name Patrick Bruyndonx, also provides backing vocals throughout. A deeply contemplative release, Melt conveys a complex blend of warmth, beauty, sadness and melancholy throughout.

“Music is a beautiful escape for so many of us. A place where strangers meet strangers and strangers make new friends. An initial way to bond. It speaks the same language that's understood by people from far and wide. It’s an experience shared. One between you and the artist or you and a crowd of hundreds or thousands,” explains Burridge, as he delves into the creative process behind the album.

“Melt hopes to create a connection. With it. With others. We both feel that musical music evokes a special kind of magic that instills itself deep in your soul. If you truly connect with it it stays with you forever. It marks a moment or moments that you shared with it and with others on your journey through life . This was one of our motivations when we wrote each track and the album as a full storytelling experience.”

Kicking off with Harpsichord Ecst, a track that bestows the original rave hoovers, Clark shoots off a frenetic, rapid-fire outburst that’s driven by the instrument, forging a sound that is characterized as anything other than Clark music. Its peak time 'ed rush is perfectly framed by the use of Clark’s own vocals, which are reminiscent of both Meredith Monk’s ‘Vessel Suite’ and Arthur Russell. Perfectly pitching it, our man explains, “It could sound prancingly medieval, but I kind of took a blow torch to it, and made it something totally different”.

Piano Ecst meanwhile sets out to search and destroy piano hardcore, built around a single broken chord, weaved into a stroboscopic digital tapestry of flute flutters, tuned sirens, whirrs and jitters. Although inspired as much by classical/orchestral and avant garde greats, as dance music, the titles multiple meanings nod to Clark’s foundation in and continued love for rave culture, but also to far older forms of revelry, and a church-like atmosphere of religious rapture, which is clearly audible in these ecclesiastic style pieces.

This fully fired up, within the abstract, effervescent, yet psychedelic electronic sound makes it clear that Throttle Records is a sure-fire one to watch...

The lifespan for humans is estimated at less then 100 years in this dimension. Due to this limitation, they seem to lack patience trying to attain their goals in this world. I’m sure that this is the case for most humans in particular, but the focus in this mission statement will be based on the Electronic Music Scene.

From the first arrival to this world and watching the current state of electronic music unfold, things seem a bit stagnant. There seems to be a drastic influx of so-called artist/ producers that are trying to influence the genre and the passive aggressive assault on what the pioneers have created. Until these souls truly study the art of music production, their track releases should be frowned upon. Their foundation should be to learn how this sound was created and how they can contribute to it moving forward.

Why not study to be a techno historian, it’ll only be a benefit. If you don’t understand the past, then there is no real future. Life-forms in this dimension need to understand the past to change the future, otherwise we’ll make the same mistakes over and over and time after time nothing will ever evolve. These words do not speak for Eqwel, however my feeling is that Eqwel has been spawned to contribute quality music to this genre for the indefnite future.

The mass understanding of Techno is the main goal for Eqwel, because if you truly understand this music, you’ll be mentally teleported to another state of mind. This audio telemetry is the answer to get lost inside the relentless nature of the low end frequencies, that is filled with percussions of high intensity. It’s been over well over a year since Eqwel has been contributing to the electronic music scene on a deeper underground level, so it’ll take some time before the earthlings are ready to be introduced to some new ideas. This society has been programmed to only like what they are told to by massive advertisements, with such vast dimensions why listen to these commercial programmers.

Listen to yourself. Music keeps us feeling alive, during our stay in this sedative society. Words & Observations by: Shadow

After a couple years behind the scenes label boss Peter Croce (aka Mr. PC) is back in the production seat to release 3 of his most prized edits with a message. First up is “Life Is A Circle”, a peak hour Philadelphia Disco classic, remastered and extended in all the right places for maximum ecstatic dance floor use. Rounding out the A side is “What Can I Do For You?”, a Gallery-era R&B proto-disco cut with a massive drum break that never got the 12” treatment that it deserved until now. On the flip Peter delivers some dance floor meditation, complete with tons of drums and dub poetry for the heads that dream of a better day. These 3 have been tried and tested on dance floors from Detroit to Chicago and London to Paris, and Rocksteady Disco is excited for you to have them in your mitts. Vinyl only, and hand-stamped by Mr. PC himself.

Bedroom Tapes is comprised solely of lost material from a recently discovered box of cassettes that emerged in the process of a house move. These tracks capture some of Paul Woolford’s most wide-eyed and naïve creative impulses at a tender age.

Seemingly lost forever, some were part of sessions that led to him being signed to now-defunct UK techno imprint Blue Basique. This is the first chapter in this archive and an intimate portrait of the artist at a key stage of his creative development.

The tracks have been carefully mastered with a loving hand by Matt Colton who has been meticulous to retain their idiosyncrasies.

As tension and seduction overlap in “Zero One”, the sound and the build-up is just enough to suck the listener in before the slight shift of style in “Zero Two”. The track gains the rhythmic flow of its own and grapples with higher pitch without losing the distinct tone of the producer. All three tracks share familiar dark undertones which are notably highlighted in “Zero Three” with a clear intention to leave the listener on an unmistakable high.

    1. A Starry Night
    2. B Han Pan

Peggy Gou is proud to announce the launch of her own independent record label, Gudu Records. The label’s first release will be the Moment EP - a two-track 12” featuring the tracks ‘Starry Night’ and ‘Han Pan’.

'Moment’ sees Gou continue to explore the charismatic facets of her musical and personal identity, drawing on her Korean heritage and language and her love for house & disco’s Eighties heritage, with particular nods to the output of labels such as Prelude and West End Records in the decade’s nascent years.

Gou’s own singing voice, known to so many from last year’s ‘Once’ EP, returns here to confidently guide the rhythm on ‘Starry Night’. Mixing both Korean and English vocals over a tumbling cascade of percussion and piano house keys, the track builds to incorporate layers of instrumental samples and subtle acid lines. Romantic, anthemic and timeless in its feel, it reaffirms Gou’s skill as a songwriter with appeal that resonates beyond crowded dancefloors, not to mention language barriers.

'Han Pan' follows as an instantly rhythmic affair that draws energy from a memorable and delicately tuned pan-drum. Alongside some expert and understated arrangement, as well as another, contrasting vocal performance, ‘Han Pan’ transmits a different but equally powerful energy.

Fabio & Grooverider have been at the forefront of UK dance music for over 3 decades. This is the roots of their story told through music.

The 2 London DJ's are part of the DNA of the global Jungle / D&B movement and they have remained relevant, cutting edge, authoritative and essential to this truly underground art-form since it's inception. RAGE could arguably be the ground zero of Jungle. The party was started at London's cavernous Heaven club by Fabio & Grooverider in 1988, at the height of Acid House fever that was making it's way up and down the motorways, slip-roads, fields and warehouses of the M25 and further beyond every weekend, troubling the nation, the police, your parents and the press as it went. RAGE was a different beast, it certainly channelled some of that Acid energy but pitted it against the new and exciting sounds emanating from Belgium, Amsterdam, Detroit, Sheffield, Essex and Hackney and in turn created a new style, a new sonic attitude and energy in the process. Rumbling bass-lines, narcotic synth rushes and roughly chopped and sped-up breakbeats all merged into a style that we now know as Jungle. Nothing like this had been heard before, this was a brand new style and it was coming out of London's West End and Fabio & Grooverider were the people firmly behind it.

RAGE is approaching its 30th anniversary. Its sonic and cultural legacy is still being felt today, Fabio & Groove are still shutting down raves and festivals every weekend all over the world with their superior DJ sets and musical knowledge guided by their pioneering spirit. This musical selection you hold in your hands, the first of 4 parts, sees them delve into their prodigious memories and record boxes to select a true musical representation of the very beginning of one of the UK's most unique and influential musical movements of the last 50 years. Across 4 x 2 x 12"s compilations we are taken on a journey through the sounds of RAGE, accompanied with personal track by track notes from Fabio & Grooverider. Music from London, Detroit, Sheffield and beyond features, with tracks such as 33 1/3 Queen's rave banger 'Searchin' sitting shoulder to shoulder with Debbie Malone's underground classic 'Rescue Me' and sublime Detroit Techno from Yennek (aka Kenny Larkin), whose 'Serena X' features. This will be a true masterclass in the sound of the underground, from the inside out.

This is a masterclass in the old-school. The roots. There is no filler here, it's simply ALL killer. Lovingly selected and programmed by the masters - 'The Living Shock' & 'The Ladies Choice'. Produced in conjunction with Above Board distribution and Fabio & Grooverider. All tracks mastered from original sources and fully licensed. Mastering by Optimum, Bristol.
