    1. A1. CJ Vibe
    2. A2. DXIOO
    3. B1. Don't You Wanna Play?
    4. B2. 110 Series

Having begun in spring 2019 with the Moment EP, featuring her international hit ‘Starry Night’, Peggy Gou continues the story of Gudu Records with an EP from one of dance music’s most prolific artists, DMX Krew. Closely associated with Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label, Ed DMX emerges once more from the underground with four sublime tracks of charismatic electronics, as potent and unmistakable as any music produced across his three-decade discography.

For the uninitiated, opening track ‘CJ Vibe’ is the perfect, floor-focused distillation of DMX Krew’s timeless studio powering into psychedelic life, as a spaced out, playful synth line holds fort through a detailed house music trip. ‘DXIOO’ heads further down the techno wormhole - a rich, deep ballad of entangled DX100 and TR909 that expands to overwhelming machine funk.

On the flip, ‘Don’t You Wanna Play?’ strikes immediately to deliver the EP’s most suitably playful cut, pairing irresistible modulations with sharp toms and hugely satisfying hits of cowbell, revisiting the frantic atmosphere imprinted within the carefree rave heritage of the DMX Krew project. Finally, ‘110 Series’ dials down the tempo while retaining the high-spirits for an inspired composition that sees Ed take his numerous synths on a skilful and melodic moonwalk around the studio, then onwards to the dancefloor.

The St. David Jam trilogy is complete!

Once again, the Italian producer plunges into the depths of his music mine, chisels out a few rough gems, and polishes them off until the glinting diamonds beneath are exposed.

As advertised, this EP is disco through and through. “Sexy Funk '98” is a slinky shuffler that gets the engine running and “I Got the Music” is a schmaltzy twirler that settles the party squarely under the mirror ball.

The reverse is both more feisty and laid back. It starts with “Where U Move,” a lighter number with a hint of tropical rhythms and beachy sunniness. With “The Connection,” the 12-inch comes to a joyous conclusion; the sampled crowd cheers and jeers sound like a dance floor begging for an encore at the end of a long night.

    3. B1. Kerri Chandler, Lafayette – Better Late Than Never (KETTAMA’s Garage Remix)
    4. B2. Kerri Chandler, Jiletta Riley – The Way It Was (Marquis Hawkes Classic Club Vocal)

Founded in 1992, Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse Records has been flying the flag within electronic music as a one of the industry’s most well respected and quintessential imprints for over 25 years, delivering quality productions from leading names across the complete house sphere. Having welcomed Detroit Swindle, Peggy Gou, Josh Butler and Jimpster to remix Chandler in their first ‘Remixed’ instalment, released in early 2018, here we see the imprint revisit the label founder’s iconic discography once again as four new names rework a fresh selection of both solo and collaborative cuts, with Henrik Schwarz, D’Julz, KETTAMA and Marquis Hawkes combining to deliver Vol. 2 this
    October.

Up first, Henrik Schwarz’s take on Chandler and Jerome Sydenham’s 1999 cut ‘Powder’ builds upon the original production’s slick drum work with rich, jazz-tinged chords to reveal an elegant and stylish slice of house music, whilst D’Julz’s groove-heavy remix of ‘Peace Of Mind’ fuses dubby pads and skipping organic drums packed full of swing as the Parisian turns in yet another must-have effort. Next, KETTAMA’s bustling ‘Garage Remix’ of Kerri and Lafayette’s ‘Better Late Than Ever’ takes cues from its title as the Irish talent hones in on a snaking, driving bassline accented by classic soulful vocal hooks, before rounding out proceedings in style through Marquis Hawkes ‘Classic
Club Vocal’ remix of Kerri Chandler and Jiletta Riley’s ‘The Way It Was’, unveiling a sun-soaked and infectious final cut that pays homage to Chandler’s trademark New Jersey palette in ever-impressing fashion.

Kicking off the A-Side, German house legend Mousse T. delivers his outstanding Disco Shizzle Mix of ‘Power Dance’, with an undulating groove and melodic keys that make it a guaranteed party-starter. 4. B2 Just A Touch (Smooth Mix)

Incredible, stone cold classic house music from the mighty Wayne Gardiner, a truly underrated producer whose output has remained evergreen over the decades and is definite deep house royalty. 'Moments In House' is from 1990, unbelievable really when you hear how fresh it sounds today. The clue is in the title, this is a killer version of Art Of Noise's seminal 'Moments In Love', a landmark record in itself. Gardiner pays tribute to the Art with his stripped, funky and driving use of their infamous pads and tones, a nod to the NYC / NJ clubs where records such as 'Moments In Love' would have been deemed the classics of the day. 'Just A Touch' is on the flip, a beautifully deep and bassline driven cut that evokes the spirit of Larry Heard, but doesn't borrow too heavily from him while carving out it's own late night sonic niche. One for the dancers and the lovers of the deepness. It's hard to top records like this, from the dawn of house music's golden age, innocent and uncomplicated yet oozing with soul and depth. There aren't many out there like Mr. Gardiner. Untampered with and re-presented in it's original 1990 form with original Strictly label artwork, you need this! Essential.

Dusky are back with a new EP as we move towards the back end of summer. Following up on the massive release that was Life Signs Vol. 1 on Gerd Janson's Running Back Records, the duo now return to their own imprint, 17 Steps.

The 'Imagine What' EP is their first 17 Steps release since the Aset Forever EP at the end of 2018 and marks the 25th release on the label.

In their own words - "Imagine What is a personal journey through shimmering melodies, proto-rave vocals and shuffling drums, arriving at a deep, eyes-closed peak. L.I. takes classic electronica as it’s main inspiration, along with the deeper side of D&B. A chance experiment with an arpeggiator led to the main melody, while a solid wall of low frequencies and electro leaning beats propel the rest of the track. And Cedar uses sampled breakbeats combined with ambient soundscapes that touch on early Speedy J and Warp vibes.”

    2. B. Rise

UK underground star Denney and the pioneering D.Ramirez collaborate for the second time on Crosstown Rebels to present the mighty Raven, released this October.

The title track Raven opens the release in dominant fashion, with melody and percussion that builds suspense before a compelling bass line takes control. On the B-side Still I Rise complements brilliantly, sampling legendary poet Maya Angelou and fusing her words with another infectious groove.

Following a year which included his mix compilation Global Underground Nubreed 12 entering the Official UK Dance Charts and the single Empire released on Pete Tong’s FFRR gaining support from Radio One DJs, Northern favourite Denney has continued his rise in 2019, with forthcoming music on Stereo Recordings and Saved alongside the launch of his own events in his hometown of Middlesborough. D.Ramirez needs no introduction, having firmly stamped his mark in Dance Music since the 90’s with 4 Essential New Tunes, 4 UK Top 10 Hits including his massive remix of Bodyrox “Yeah Yeah” which went to Number 1, won an Ivor Novello award and winning him DJ Mag Remixer and Producer of the year. As well as his recent Toolroom Masterclass series on Youtube having had over 5 million views collectively, proving his near guru status in the studio.

Featuring lead vocals by Randy Roberts, and backing vocals from Richard Burton, Vonita White as well as Randy, this song features a unique and highly infectious rhythm track that caught the ear of none other than the Grammy award-winning and world-renowned artist/producer/DJ Louie Vega. TROY TOWN are back with their 3rd release and itʼs another dance floor focussed EP from a South East London mainstay.

El Prevost has been a fixture of the underground London dance music scene for nearly 20 years - his first label, Linx Recordings, was at the forefront of the garage and grime crossover at the turn of the millennium signing early tracks by Kano, Wiley and Pay As U Go Cartel. However, over the past decade his productions in the world of house, garage and techno have brought him widespread respect amongst discerning A&Rʼs and DJs such as Third Ear Recordings, Patrice Scott and Ricardo Villalobos whilst building his own label and party series ‘No Speakersʼ.

This EP is unmistakably indebted to the sounds of London but equally doesnʼt sound like anyone else out there at the moment. ‘A Little Politicalʼ, dripping in dub effects and toughened up with the immense delivery of poet Kyla Jenee Lacey, is full throttle and combines consciousness with a determination to fill dance floors. The broken beat influence of Ladbroke Grove and the Co-Op collective is given a hefty rejuvenation on ‘Nu Jazzʼ. ‘Wheelʼ and ‘Acid Tonerʼ are heads-down, deep and dubby. Both tracks that would ramp up the temperature in dark basements like Plastic People circa 2011.

Following the huge success of the Somi Afrikan Lady 12inch SRM 246 that was released way back in 2008. Since that time there’s been a huge demand for Sacred Rhythm to release the alternative mixes that Joaquin Joe Claussell and an exclusive few of his DJ Prominent DJ friends have been championing. Giving in to the pressure, we decided to press the unreleased mixes on 7” Vinyl.

The A Side features the same intensity that is similar to how it is on the previously 12Inch release, but with its own unique vibe. While the B side offers a completely different approach hence leaning more towards the side of, what Joaquin like to call,” a freaky dub exploration of rhythm and drums.” The 7” will be pressed on Special Colored Vinyl.
All in all, this is a dope seven inch of Afrocentric grooves and Dope musicianship that, no less than its predecessor, aims to continue rocking the dance floor.

Flight Mode makes a welcome return to Delusions, this time joining forces with Joel Brittain to come up with another killer release in the form of Burn This. Those who caught his last one It’s So Nice last year will know the drill…. epic, rolling, dubbed-out loopy uptempo house based around a classic disco bassline which patiently builds, increasing in intensity Wild Pitch style. Burn This treads similar waters with subtle arpeggios floating around an incessant groove whilst layers of vocal pads build to a crescendo over a beautiful ten minute ride.

Completely flipping the script we’ve got the man like Medlar stepping up for remix duties and delivering just the kind of bonkers reworking we were hoping for. Keeping the trippy vibe of the original in place but opting for a more drum machine-programmed groove Medlar’s remix turns the shuffle factor up to ten and adds a rude bassline and intense synths which make it a real ear worm.

Finally, Flight Mode gives us his own Tricky Dub of Burn This which adds a straighter 4/4 vibe and goes heavier on the FX creating a perfectly bubbling track which seems to simmer without ever boiling over.

The always on-point and culturally significant Tuskegee Music is back with more essential music, this time from venerated American producer D’Marc Cantu.

Over the course of a distinguished career, Cantu has contributed to everything from jackbeat to acid, house to techno on labels like Creme Organisation and Les Disques De La Mort. Always serving up raw-edged, uncompromising sounds, he does so again here on another standout EP.

Opener ‘Beat The Move’ is an urgent, high tech piece of slick and supple acid house with 303 undulations, dark vocal loops and the sort of hammering drums that get the club locked right in.

The sublime ‘In The Forest’ is a tripped out bit of restless electro with skittish hits and rueful pads that gets right to your heart. Last of all is the militant, marching ‘A Narrow Connection’ which closes things out with crisp kicks and scintillating sheet metal drums that straighten your back and get you stomping.

These are utilitarian yet wonderfully unique club tracks from a real master of the

Riviera Records is a brand new label that kicks off with ‘Move’ - a statement of intent from founder X-Coast.

Continuing to perform across the USA, Canada, Europe and Asia, X-Coast is an unconventional character and little is known about the mysterious Serbian other than the concept for the alias is that it exists “somewhere in the deep blue Caribbean Sea, between your imagination and what’s real.”

Having released on labels like Hot Haus, Lost Palms and Steel City Dance Discs, X-Coast now launches Riviera Records with a promise to be an “uncompromising clash of sounds” and the label stays true to that from the get-go.

There is no mucking about here as X-Coasts demonstrates his versatility as a producer with three varying mixes of ‘Move’ making up the bulk of the package. First up is the Trans Mix: an arms-in-the-air, throwback trance track with euphoric vocal stabs all primed to inject real energy into any set. House Mix then bounces and bumps with a refracted garage vox and endless old school dynamism, before the twisting and turning Breaks Mix follows with its thumping drums, hits and rattling dub sounds that all explode to life.

Finally, ‘Naos’ totally flips the script with a slow, deep, cosmic workout build on a rugged bassline. A breathy voice, warm chords and balmy pads all wash over you like a Balearic breeze and take you to hedonistic dance floor somewhere in 80s Ibiza.

The DJs Pareja have been flagging they’re a DJ duo in love long before the recent trend. ‘Pareja’ literally translates as ‘couple’, and that is just how Diego and Mariano do life; in tandem.

It may not seem so radical these days, but the Pareja’s have been unapologetically queer trailblazers in their hometown of Buenos Aires, Argentina - throwing raves and putting out pop dance records for decades. It took us years to get these boys to come play for us in San Francisco, but when they finally did, minutes off the plane we were hugging and shedding a little tear in front of the Castro theatre sign.

I always knew that one day we would get them on the label, and this EP is a product of how far this new gay techno underground has come. So it is with great pleasure we present 4 tracks produced south of the Equator, mixed for the gods, with some signature vocals and some sounds we’ve never heard from these Argy boys sleeping in a Queen bed.

    3. B2. The Message

Renowned Frankfurt-based producer Anthony Rother delivers an otherworldly release on Rekids offshoot, Stranger in The Night.

Very few electronic music artists stand the test of time but German electro pioneer and visionary, Anthony Rother, is one of them. Whether running labels like Psi49Net, Stahl Industries and Datapunk or working alongside the likes of Sven Väth, DJ Hell and Kraftwerk’s Karl Bartos, Rother’s legacy stands tall. Having made recent appearances on DVS1’s Mistress or Danny Daze’s OMNIDISC, Rother now connects with Stranger In The Night, joining a tight roster of luminaries including King Britt, Fred P and label boss Radio Slave.

‘We Are The Future’ opens the package with sci-fi synths, a decaying vocal and arpeggiated highs, before ‘Super Future Metropolis’ continues the theme with ultramodern vocoding and industrial drum patterns. Following on, ‘The Message’ sweeps in with laser-like stabs and a leading lyrical sample until two new perspectives conclude the package: the multi-layered ‘We Are The Future (D-Cut)’ with its intricate keys and a ‘Space Mix’ of ‘The Message’ which widens the audio journey with lightly flowing pads.

Rekids serves up more scintillating techno this autumn with scene mainstay Marco Faraone making his return.

The Italian artist has long been releasing on the biggest labels of the day, whether that’s Drumcode and Ovum, or his own label UNCAGE. Often favouring big, powerful tracks distilled to their essence, Faraone is never far from a headline set at the world’s leading festivals, clubs and is considered as a core part of the modern techno landscape.

Big, cantering drums define opener ‘Don’t Need You’, the track’s title is repeated over and over like a mind melting mantra and you cannot fail to fall under its spell. The epic ‘Hardgroove Community’ follows with a wall of techno drum programming that will blow away even the largest crowds: razor sharp hi-hats, super charged bass and fist pumping vocal stabs are all effectively deployed to make this one pop.

On the flip ‘Survive’ is a darker cut with sleek and futuristic synths depicting some derelict urbanwasteland. Finally, ‘Not A Crime’ layers up dusty breakbeats and rattling dub chords with big female yelps into something all-consuming and brilliantly rib rattling.

DUAT (pronounced do-aht) was the realm of the dead in ancient Egyptian mythology. The deity Osiris was believed to be the lord of the underworld since he personified rebirth and life after death, being the first mummy as depicted in the Osiris Myth. The DUAT was the region through which the sun god Re traveled from west to east each night, and it was where he battled Apep, who embodied the primordial chaos which the sun had to defeat in order to rise each morning and bring order back to the earth.

By the name of Västlänken, Jarold is now making his first release as a solo artist on Höga Nord Rekords.

The music on the tracks Autobaba and Moebel, is a mixture of dub, ambient and techno where few but tasteful components builds the sound. Västlänkens transcendent qualities lies in Jarolds ability to limit himself in matter of recording techniques and instrumentation; one synthesiser, one delay pedal and one mobile studio is all he need to make delicate dub.

Like a message in a bottle, carried round by the ocean streams for decades, Henrik Rylander’s album ”Från en obestämd plats I rummet” has floated around in the space of Swedish underground music. Höga Nord pulls the cork and unfolds the message that is a piece of music that was ahead of its time, sounding “now” 20 years after its first release in the late nineties. This album is a well-kept secret even for the most initiated music lovers in Sweden! The music, influenced by Flying Saucer Attack and other reverb/distortion drenched acts from the early nineties, Harmonia and some of Kraftwerks earlier works and minimalism, still sounds fresh!

Rylander, a member of legendary acts such as Union Carbide Productions and The Skull Defekts, has been pushing the envelope for electronic music, varying between ambient and noise. Rylander’s solo works could be described as sophisticated music and “Från en obestämd plats I rummet” combines the sophisticated sides with his band oriented works that holds another kind of tension.

This record is the first release on the sub label “Höga Nord Arkiv” on which releases from the past, that hasn’t got as much attention they deserve gets re-released in an appropriate context.

Pete “Bassman” Bain, one of the founding members of the UK cult psychrock band Spacemen 3, formed Alpha Stone after Spacemen 3 and his other band The Darkside split up in the mid-nineties. In 1996 the band recorded the album ’Stereophonic Pop Art Music’ and it was released on Bomp Records on compact disc. The album hasn’t had a ”proper” vinyl release until now, 2018, when Höga Nord Rekords continues their collaboration with Pete Bassman by releasing the album.

You can clearly hear that Pete Bassman was the driving force behind Alpha Stone; fuzz, synthesiser -sweeps, programmed drums and processed vocals are the cornerstones in Alpha Stone’s sound. Raga-like mantras, heard in Farmer C, lies track to track with more percussion driven grooves and psychedelic pop oriented songs. The album’s sound has obviously survived the 20+ years shelved in obscurity and proves the “Drugby” sound still vital!

It’s always hard to sum up a bands particular sound in a few words, but you could say that if you put guitar and bass, synthesisers, a drum machine, and Julian Copes record collection in the hands of an alien, you’ve got Alpha Stone!

Antoine Harispurus was raised by a robot called V.I.C.T.O.R. The robot took care of little Antoine and early on he gave him music lessons and also the right equipment, for example a Roland 808. Robotic, mechanical precision became significant for Antoines music and soon he left the safety of his mothers toy store for the huge European club scene under his new pseudonym ”Golden Bug”.

This year he releases two songs as a 7” vinyl and in digital format on Höga Nord Rekords. The A-side, ”Viaje A Tenderloin” sounds like the inside of an East German military liaison in 1975 where the tabulating machines haven’t had service since the raise of the Berlin wall. On the B-side ”Hitodama”, guest vocalist Jessica Ho is plays with her voice in a bubbly way above Golden Bugs characteristic metallic, world music influenced sounds and beats. The music would fit perfectly in a vast alien mountain landscape.

In conclusion, the music on this 7” is the sound of human and robot in close symbiosis - Golden Bug is music by robot and human for robot and human.

Moon”. In these tracks, Lover’s influences mainly stems from a decadent eighties New York or Paris and you can almost smell the heavy perfume mixed with indoors smoking get the feeling of sitting in a room with mirror walls.

Right away, listening to the opening bars of ”Dark Matter”, you can tell that Lover is on to something new and different from his previous Höga Nord-releases. In some ways you hear similarities to ”Zodiak Versions” (2015) but on these two tracks of the 7”, Lover has left the German regions of Europe and the 70’s behind to instead embrace an updated 80’s sound. He comments the new direction with these words: ”'I'd say the influences for these tracks was mainly me wanting to do something different then I have before. I'm always on to next idea, becoming bored with what I've already done”.

The 2017 edition of Convenanza Festival featured Swedish band Fontän, who have released material on Höga Nord Rekords, and that set the ground for a collaboration between the record label and one of the most interesting festivals around. The joint forces has resulted in the compilation album “Convenanza 2018” containing the live acts of 2018.

The five artists are: electro oozing duo Woodleigh Research Facility, consisting of Andrew Weatherall and Nina Walsh, etno-minimalist Komodo Kollektif from Galsgow with, among others, Gordon Mackinnon who’s running the top quality label Invisible Inc. The more rock oriented side of “Convenanza 2018” contains Berlin based Die Wilde Jagt, whose sound can be defined as some sort of post punk where strong chorus drenched basslines float upon a smooth electronic soundscape with both live drums and drum machines as the back bone to the beat. Wild Woman And The Savages could best be described as the result of an orgy between PIL and The Birthday Party! The Limiñanas, with special guest Anton Newcombe, contribute to the collection a garage rock track suited for long hot drives through the dessert.

Weatherall’s unfailing “fingerspitzengefühle” in picking artists for the festival gets repeated yet again and if you for some unexplainable reason fail to make it to Convenanza Festival, the magic from the old castle still can reach your senses with the help from this compilation!

Alexander Palmestål was fifty procent of the electro duo Pistol Disco – a band that during the 00’s bustled around in the music scene of Gothenburg and became known for having a certain sound and for their unpredictable and often magical live shows. The later incarnation of the band took a step away from the German 70’s influences to move towards a more club friendly universe. In 2013 the band released the 7” ”Bad Wisdom/Egypt” on Höga Nord Rekords which was their last release and now Palmestål, under the name Mythologen, make a release on Höga Nord Rekords.

Mythologen continues building on the foundations that Pistol Disco and Palmestål’s other band Iberia was made upon. The songs on this album named “Mythologen” is the perfect combination of the fragility and melancholy of Iberia and Pistol Disco’s monotony and drive. Underneath layers of dreamy, free floating synthesizers and restrained yet steady drumbeats lies muffled melodies waiting for the air to be let in. And then, all of a sudden the clouds disappear and the sunlight is beaming down over the music, like on the closing track “Bright Summer Day”. In other songs on the album the darkness is more present, embodied by polyrhythmic tribal drums giving the music weight and suggestion.

“Mythologen” is the soundtrack for recovering from a depression. The album seduces the whole spectrum of your moodswings, eliminates your ego and moves your focus from the past to the future.

For starters: to pin down and value Andrew Weatherall’s musical deed takes more space than available in a press release text but here is some of many highlights. As a producer, Weatherall has since he first shook the foundation for modern pop music with ground breaking and genre bending remixes of Primal Scream (Loaded), My Bloody Valentine (Soon) New Order (World In Motion) and many other influential acts, continued to push sounds in to unknown territories. His importance as a musician is as big, with bands like the iconic Sabres Of Pardise and Two Lone Swordsmen in the 90’s and top quality solo records from the 00’s up till today.

With the above In mind, Höga Nord Rekords are proud to announce the release of Andrew Weatherall new album Qualia! This album fits perfect in to the Höga Nord – Catalogue, which shows clearly already from the opening track Evidence The Enemy. This song is a monotonous yet uplifting piece of music, a case that holds for the album in full; Weatherall lets the melodies, built on a deep tradition of classical music and later developed by bands such as Kraftwerk, go in major scales, which lets fresh air in and creates a feeling of freedom. The music put you on top of Mont Blanc to overview the complete European music history. Qualia is soothing, harmonic and transporting.

Within his framework, Weatherall knocks those frames out of place from time to time. When a song goes to much in one direction a new melody or a new instrument steps in to redirect and surprise the listener. This album is the perfect soundtrack to a road trip inside your own, ever-changing inner landscape.

Andrew Weatherall contributed strongly to form the music of the nineties; club music got an injection of rock and roll and vice versa. Now the legacy continues with the release of Qualia on Höga Nord Rekords.

    1. A1. Big Love (David Penn Extended Remix)
    2. A2. Big Love (The Dronez Mix)
    3. B1. Big Love (Original 12" Mix)

It’s almost hard to believe that a record with anthem status like Pete Heller’s ‘Big Love’ was created out of a happy accident, but that is exactly how it happened. Left to his own devices as his studio partner Terry Farley went to watch a Chelsea game, Pete Heller was playing around with his Akai sampler when he produced what is arguably one of the most recognisable pieces of dance music of the 1990’s. Earlier this summer Urbana Records boss and Spanish powerhouse David Penn took to remixing this enduring classic. Winning over dancefloors in Ibiza and beyond with his signature rolling bassline and infectious groove, the record soaring to both Beatport and Traxsource #1. Now Defected present a special 12” package that features David’s remix, joined on the A-Side by The Dronez Remix, where house masters Erick Morillo, Harry Romero and Jose Nunez lend their classic house capabilities to the track. On the B-Side is Pete Heller’s original, sounding as incredible as ever over twenty years after its original release, once again proving the timelessness of ‘Big Love’.

    1. A Starry Night
    2. B Han Pan

Peggy Gou is proud to announce the launch of her own independent record label, Gudu Records. The label’s first release will be the Moment EP - a two-track 12” featuring the tracks ‘Starry Night’ and ‘Han Pan’.

'Moment’ sees Gou continue to explore the charismatic facets of her musical and personal identity, drawing on her Korean heritage and language and her love for house & disco’s Eighties heritage, with particular nods to the output of labels such as Prelude and West End Records in the decade’s nascent years.

Gou’s own singing voice, known to so many from last year’s ‘Once’ EP, returns here to confidently guide the rhythm on ‘Starry Night’. Mixing both Korean and English vocals over a tumbling cascade of percussion and piano house keys, the track builds to incorporate layers of instrumental samples and subtle acid lines. Romantic, anthemic and timeless in its feel, it reaffirms Gou’s skill as a songwriter with appeal that resonates beyond crowded dancefloors, not to mention language barriers.

'Han Pan' follows as an instantly rhythmic affair that draws energy from a memorable and delicately tuned pan-drum. Alongside some expert and understated arrangement, as well as another, contrasting vocal performance, ‘Han Pan’ transmits a different but equally powerful energy.

Rekids begins 2016 with the launch of an exciting new talent.  South Korea-born DJ and producer Peggy Gou has been honing her production skills since her days in London.  Now based in Berlin, Gou has drawn on her years of DJing to help shape a sound that draws on Detroit & NYC house, as well as the African rhythmic sensibility and boogie funk influences she shares with Early Sounds duo Nu Guinea, with whom she had piano lessons and sought production advice from as her music took shape. In addition to her work as a stylist and fashion producer, Gou has also drawn on her art & design abilities to create the EP artwork.

The Art of War 12" includes two original productions plus a remix from White Material's Galcher Lustwerk.  The original mix of Troop centres on a funk bassline which propels its dream-like tropical groove, while Lustwerk's remix re-purposes the track as a Fred P-esque jazz-infused star-gazer.  The EP's other original production, In Sum, again asserts Gou's talent for raw, propulsive rhythms and subtle melodies.  A second Peggy Gou EP will follow in the second quarter of 2016.

    1. A1. Jen High
    2. A2. When Round, They Go
    3. B1. When Round, They Go (Terekke Remix)

Rekids’ latest signing Peggy Gou serves up two subterranean slices of quality with L.I.E.S. producer Terekke providing a remix.

The South Korean artist, who was raised in the UK and now resides in Berlin, kick started 2016 for Rekids with her ‘Art Of War’ release. She now returns to Radio Slave’s imprint with a sequel. ‘Jen High’ boasts a heady bassline whilst quivering synths make way for serene key melodies. ‘When Round, They Go’ then deploys robust kicks as ebbing pads join acid licks, before Germany’s Terekke provides a floating rendition comprised of soaring atmospherics and jazzy aesthetics.

    1. A. The Yard Man
    2. B. Brotha

Patrick Mason and Rekids boss Matt Edwards return for their second appearance as SRVD with two cuts entitled ‘RAW FILES’.

Not confined to a single art form, Patrick Mason is a young creative at the forefront of Berlin’s art, fashion, dance music and LGBT scene; an influential club kid who developed a friendship with Matt Edwards after a chance meeting in Panorama Bar, resulting in numerous studio sessions and improvised live sets.
Joining forces in 2018, the pair adopted their SRVD moniker – an alias inspired by New York’s vogue scene – before dropping their debut release on Rekids, playing at various clubs (notably Panorama Bar), not to mention an unforgettable performance at Boiler Room x Pornceptual.

‘The Yard Man’ presents rattling drums, piercing vocal chants and a tormenting melody that SRVD has been destroying dancefloors with over the last year. On the flip, ‘Brotha’ presents a compelling groove as a shuffling rhythm joins abrasive synths and Mason’s penetrating voice.
