    3. B1. Alice et les Aloes (Darshan Jesrani Coup de Soleil Mix)

In a turn of events, Startree finds itself wading into the slower, more sensual side of things for its third release, courtesy of relative newcomer and super-talent Nelson Bishop.

“Alice et les Aloes“ is a heart-rending, melancholic-yet-propulsive piece which impels the dancer in lovely and unforseen directions. The bass guitar holds the bottom down with a easy-yet-mighty, low-slung sleaze, and the ascending electric piano and keyboard figures joyfully take it to the stars. Soulful with modern-rock edges, this is music which endears itself to the listener on more than one level and for longer than one season.

“Still Life Noix de Coco” is rooted in a stomping Linndrum pattern, vaguely post-punk chorus-y bass and wistful, descending organ timbres. Driving and somewhat mysterious, you would do well to time the release of fog onto your dancefloor to coincide with the airing of this jam.

Shoring up the other side is Darshan Jesrani’s take on “Alice et les Aloes.” In this version, Darshan takes the track around the corner, through the unmarked door, past the video arcade and straight to the ideal dancefloor, heaving and smiling, warm with bodies emoting to each instrument as it is given space, by the arrangement, to shine.

Startree is proud to present this release as a continuing statement of its musical intentions and its simple desire to inspire and have a good time.

It always gives us an extra little buzz to bring you a debut release from a new artist, especially when you know it’s going to be the launch pad for someone that is going to grow to become a heavyweight player. Parisian Larry Quest has been slowly but surely paying his dues, promoting, DJing and generally immersing himself in the underground House Music scenes of Paris and then London after moving to Hackney eight years ago. Growing up playing in punk bands, then studying Jazz at music college has given him the attitude as well as the skillset to create music which is both intensely raw and rugged whilst still being musical and deep. For his debut EP he delivers four drumheavy cuts which bring together elements of Detroit techno and house to form a forward-looking sound which will make an impact wherever you play them.

Opener Conun Drums packs a serious punch with simple synth line sitting on top of a lo-slung bumpy groove. Perfectly timed synth stabs bring a touch of light to the thumping bass and metallic percussion and already we get a sense that we’re in safe hands with Larry Quest at the controls.

Red C Mellow D follows, treading similar water with live drums laying the foundation and touches of colour coming from echoing synth lines and an acidic bassline.

Flip over for the curiously titled A Frog Rovin’, which is about as quirky and off-kilter as the name suggests. The major tonality brings an optimistic vibe which sits in contrast to the thundering saturated 909 drums and speakerwobbling low-end.

Closing out this brilliant release we have Solar Assailer which plays with our sense of time as drums and filtering stabs dance around the beat completely throwing us off the scent of where the one is. Finally the elements fall into place and lock into the groove which is underpinned by the pulsing throb of the bassline. Larry’s jazz background rears it’s head now and then, coming out in the little flourishes of fusion-era chord sequences and moogy lead lines. What a debut, we hope you agree!

A firm favourite here at Futureboogie HQ, Ponty Mython returns to the label after last years ‘Pink
Tango’ EP. Always ticking our Balearic boxes, with past releases on Quintessentials, Fina Music and
Better Listen, Ponty drops three paradise purlers on the ‘Speak For Yourself’ EP, coming at you with
    added extra Jonny Rock remix!

Dubwize vibes are present on ‘Speak For Yourself’, as a roving bassline navigates its way around steady, marching drums and Arabic tones, initiating a most heady atmosphere. ‘Barocco’ is equally as dubbed out; a cinematic soundscape is set to a dusted breakbeat, nods to Lalo Schifrin are evident, as Pont carves out a blissful midnight drive soundtrack.

A wigged out, tribal space dance awaits on ‘Jealous Lover’, whilst Jonny Rock (ESP Institute/The
Nothing Special) climbs on board with his Future is Now remix that’s suitably freaky in all the right places, as aircraft sounds pass over and tweaky acid bubbles over a chuggy groove.

Despite chiefly being known as an artist who moves dancefloors, Joris Voorn has always made clear his intentions to be known as more of a musician in the traditional sense. Steadily releasing three acclaimed studio albums that display his keen sense of musicality, mood and arrangement, he has proved that he is highly accomplished at providing more than just dancefloor fodder. His fourth album ‘\\\\’ [four] is now ready to be unleashed: the glorious pinnacle of his studio efforts to date.

Where his first two albums ‘Future History’ and ‘From A Deep Place’ saw Voorn draw inspiration from Detroit Techno, this new album finds its inspiration in the European electronic scene of the mid-’90s. From the crossover success of acts like Underworld, The Prodigy and Orbital through to bastions of hard techno and ambient like R&S Records, it’s the fertile and rapidly-evolving sounds of his formative musical years that he has looked back on with such reverence for this majestic record.

“I believe the mid-90s was the most inspiring time to be listening to electronic dance music” he says. “Artists were discovering new sounds and genres every single day, never again has there been so much innovation in such a short time. Where in the very early-’90s it sounds like most producers were still using their equipment in quite a basic way, around ’94/’95 the same artists mastered their instruments and studios to create masterpieces that still sound inspiring 25 years later. I’m glad to have entered my musical journey in just the right time.” states Joris.

The backslashes of the title refer both to this being his fourth album experience and a nod to the design of the ‘V’ from Voorn in his logo. “Like my previous albums, it’s a collection of tracks that I’ve worked on over the last few years” says Voorn. “Some even date from before my last album ‘Nobody Knows’. As an electronic music artist, I’ve always worked on many different sounds, whether it’s dance music or more atmospheric or experimental melody driven music. ‘\\\\’ is no different in this.”

Featuring collaborations with Voorn’s heroes Underworld, British trip-hop outfit HÆLOS, the South African poet Lazarusman and Dutch pianist Michiel Borstlap, the record exercises his wide variety of tastes. From tried-and-tested dancefloor workouts through to introspective, languid compositions, it’s a beautifully varied package. Guitar plucks rub up against delicate synth arpeggios, crashing breakbeats contrast soulful vocals, dulcet piano tones glide over ghostly hip-hop rhythms and classic techno stabs permeate among atmospheric pads.

While texture and cadence vary, it’s the melodic content that ties the record together. “As always in my music, melodies are important on ‘\\\\’. They are what defines me as an electronic music artist the most. The album features some tracks I’ve played out in my sets for a long time — which represent my work as a DJ and dance music artist — tied together with tracks where the drums are less prominent and melodies or synth arpeggios are the driving force.”

As we descend into winter and the end of 2019, an EP that, like the shorter, overcast days, is chilly and stark, yet accented with rays of sun that crack through the clouds, glints of starlight, full-moon rises.

These five tracks—six for the digital version—come from Eluize, a Berlin-based Australian gifted at simmering minimal yet acerbic house potions over low heat, patiently coaxing them to a slow boil. Mischievous, creeping concoctions that approach and build sneakily, as layer upon layer is looped, expanded, condensed, dropped out, and slid back in. Each is a beautifully musical piece, too, with as much evolving melody as hypnotizing groove.

An LPH soundtrack for nights that stretch on forever, lit only by blinking lights that break apart seas of heavy fog and slice between silhouetted bodies.

"Music is changing, the world is getting smaller.. Highlife brings you fresh new music from corners of the world you’d least expect." An early slogan we adopted in 2010.. On the eve of our 10th anniversary and as we question our relevancy, we close out the year with fresh new music by a brand new project.. and what a BEAUTIFUL case in point!

Brought to you in collaboration between Skinnydeep from Masiphumelele - one of the largest townships in Cape Town - and Jesse Reiner of Brooklyn, NYC. The two producers bonded over a shared sensibility in electronic minimalism, Zulu rhythms, house and techno and began a year’s long international collaboration resulting in Unyuko - meaning 'going up' in isiXhosa, one of the Bantu languages of South Africa. It references ‘upllifting’ or ‘a rising’ after struggle and couldn't be a more appropriate title.

We're very honoured and excited to present this to you now.

In 2015 Superpitcher was invited to go on a safari in South Africa. He stayed at the breathtaking Tanda Tula camp in Timbavati adjacent to the Kruger National Park.

Apart from being stunned by the untouched nature of the area, he was also blown away one evening by a performance of the Tanda Tula staff choir. He was so touched by their folk songs and beautiful Shangaan language that he decided to record and produce a CD for them to sell in the camp's shop, free of charge with all proceeds going to the choir members. This recording has since enabled guests from around the world to take the captivating voices of the Tanda Tula Choir home with them.

Not much later, Superpitcher approached Autonomous Africa with the idea of us putting out a remix EP. It contains four very different but somehow complementary remixes from Superpitcher, LAPS, Red Axes and Esa.

All profits from this release will be split between Tanda Tula choir and the International Library of African Music. Founded by ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracey in 1954, ILAM is an an organisation dedicated to the preservation and study of African music.

London duo Wax On Mare St. debut on Infuse this November with their ‘Perceptions’ EP, backed by a remix from Mennie.

Formed in 2015 by London-based duo James Puentes and Jordan Mina (MIINA), the Wax On Mare St. guise has quickly become a rising name of note within the city’s ever-evolving house scene, with releases to date on imprints including Blind Vision, Roush and most recently, E1even Records, appearances across the likes of fabric, Studio9294 and Eastern Electrics, and a monthly slot on East London’s Netil Radio. Following on from a busy summer of gigs, mid-November welcomes a debut on FUSE sister imprint Infuse as the duo touch down on the label with Italian talent Mennie also stepping up on remix duties for his first appearance on the label.

The bubbling ‘Round Up’ kicks things off as the duo combine rich chords alongside low-slung bass patterns, hooky vocal samples and slick hats, whilst ‘Pepper & Spice’ lays the focus on skipping percussion and hazy synths throughout. Next, sci-fi electronics and further bright chord melodies go to work throughout the laidback ‘Maximum Highness’, before Mennie’s up-front, energy-driven interpretation of the lead track rounds out proceedings with authority.

    4. B2. Dark Sky ft. Minioca – Love Walk

We’ve been waiting a while for this one… Dark Sky return after a brief hiatus with this incredible EP featuring band of the moment Afriquoi. Many of you will already know one particular tune here: ‘Cold Harbour’ used by Bonobo on his Fabric mix compilation back in January. This gem is now backed with three more blissful, vital fusions. All created with different members of the deeply-rooted London-based live band.

‘Valmer’ sets the tone with its chimes, bells and chants, featuring the drumming of percussionist Andre Marmot aka Minioca. It's measured, restrained and impossible not to get goosebumps to, a near-spiritual experience the deeper you get into the groove. Elsewhere ‘Love Walk’ takes a much more subdued sojourn into the cosmic dusk. Mid tempo and much more focused on the rich layers of atmospherics than the beats, this will disarm a crowd at 50 paces. Next our minds are altered by eight-minute synth-striking mystique marathon ‘Cambia’ featuring the Kora playing of Jally Kebba Susso. Finally, ‘Cold Harbour’, one of the highlights from Bonobo’s evergreen mix from the London club institution, the combination of those rattled strings, pregnant bass staccatos, rolling percussion and deep undulating bass make it one of the most versatile and touching tracks Dark Sky have given us so far. And that’s saying something.

Breaking the Dark Sky silence that’s been almost two years, the ‘Clod Harbour’ EP opens up a whole new page in the London act’s legacy. And there’s plenty more to come. Watch this space...

Benedikt Frey makes an anticipated return to the ESP Institute. After leisurely toying with themes around this fourth release with the label, which follows his 2017 debut album 'Artificial', a dense nihilistic fog seems to have enveloped his creative process and undoubtedly informed his frame of mind. The approach here is perhaps more minimal than the artist’s previous endeavors — reducing music to skeletal loops, allowing their character to develop and fluctuate over the course of each piece — a confidence that exemplifies an artist hitting their stride, but in no way does he rely on the trope of “less is more”. Whereas a minimalist embellishes the importance of elements through their isolation and negative space, Benedikt fills every facet with granular measures of sound and sifts them, in a cyclical motion, through his spectral arrangements. The title 'Cells' speaks to the unadulterated path from which Frey cultivates complex gestures utilizing limited means — stretching singular organisms to their furthest limits, breaching their brink of stability and inciting cancerous mutations — proving time and again his mastery of tonal nuance and fearless embrace of distortion. Each of these four songs deliver a despondent poetry, predominantly abstract, but occasionally complimented by verbal commands from dystopian futures, such as the blanketing repetitive chants in 'Interlinked' that conjure images of labor, assembly lines and infrastructural erosion, or the intercom punctuations throughout 'Substance B' that refer to the “world’s future” which, when juxtaposed over such dark melodies and gritty drums, allude to science fiction, Film Noir and a post-apocalyptic existence. As the winter approaches, the melancholy grows very real, and we swoon.

    4. D. Necare Diskō (Hymns Remix)

NecareDiskoEP is the debut original release from, Thomaas Banks and also the first release on his own imprint, Sinahti.

The 4 track EP delves into his love for EBM & the slower side of Techno. NecareDisko rocks with low slung future vibes. Gnarly metallic synths and apocalyptic Vatican orchestration meld with a rolling beat to provide a sleek burner with plenty of grind and glimmer.

VitalClaret ups the tempo with a rousing trip to the chasm edge. Ring modulated arpeggiated leads clash with insistent embers of modular rebellion.

A background hum rises throughout to reach a punishing crescendo. TYVYT-IYTYIon the first remix of the EP’s title track and he pushes the swamp funk button for a syncopated noise workout, with a hot as hell detuned noir melody around the halfway mark. Magma!

The EP closes with a loose open electro remix of Necare Disko from Hymns. Open and lighter than the rest of the EP, nevertheless it still has a taut, Germanic vibe with distorted bass funk dueling
    hard towards the end.

Following the Stardancer EP and his remix for All I Need To Get High by Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons, Ae:ther unveils his most accomplished and daring work yet on the highly anticipated debut album Me released on Crosstown Rebels.

Blazing a trail with his natural aptitude for crafting emotive, captivating compositions that have landed him releases on Crosstown Rebels Afterlife and Fabric, Ae:ther presents his debut LP. The album is a painstakingly produced collection of haunting melodies and narcotic rhythms that display his love and inspiration for ambient electronica, deep underground music and introspective atmospheres, culminating in dreamlike soundscapes programmed with taut percussion. The album begins on Stardancer, setting the tone with gentle keys and space influenced licks that portray a cosmonaut ascending into the stratosphere. This moves into the glistening, atmospheric Finferli, where synths depict aliens conversing in a distant, just-discovered world. Sub-aquatic ambient fills We’ll be Together, boosts of energy and intricate melodies weave in and out of the vocal,
    locked to the dubby groove.

Ice cold subtlety and the otherworldly electronics of Costes drip slowly like water down a pane of glass. A mood of relaxation and weightlessness continues on Tina, a tender beat combined with pattering echoed chimes. N.62, a special ethereal piece, features warm chords and reduced percussion, gradually developing like the morning sun rising.

Mysterious, playful charm unfurls on Elf, progressive harmony teases towards a crescendo before dropping back into the hypnotic beat. Clark is light and airy, funky melody constructing an interplanetary anthem. Stimulating a brooding mood, fuzzy clicks and glitches dance on the deep bass of Spektre II, conveying dust spraying off the surface of a moon landing. The shimmering ripples of electronica on title track Me fuse with delicate human vocals creating a heart-warming, personal account of Ae:ther’s relationship with his instruments. Trademark bleeps and blips wash over natural broken beats in one last final call to his utopia in the album outro.

    2. B1. THE DBG (Mark Broom Remix)
    3. B2. Get Busy

Hot Creations welcome back the dynamic Shadow Child to drop heavyweight single The DBG, his first full release on the label since his earlier acclaimed remixes of Hot Natured and Miguel Campbell. Prolific techno producer Mark Broom also provides a compelling remix.

Thudding kicks launch The DBG paired with eccentric, fizzing electronics that bubble alongside, before reaching a midpoint climax, unfurling into a colossal bassline. Mark Broom adds his groove-laden techno stamp on the remix, transforming it with energetic hats, soulful vocals, horns and hints of the buzzing high pitched synth of the original. On Get Busy finely tuned 909 and 707 drum patterns interlock with a dancing acid synth line.

Having an already genre-bending catalogue of original works and remixes, Shadow Child's music has recently hit labels such as Unknown to the Unknown, Ovum and Super Rhythm Trax. He also has a bi-weekly radio slot on Rinse FMshare a Wednesday slot with Mall Grab, and has graced the airwaves there for over 6 years. The acclaimed “Curated by..” project on his Food Music imprint this year, has so far seen him pull together remasters and brand new reworks of defining classic tracks by Zero B, SL2, Xpansions and Bump, not only by himself but with Krystal Klear, Rebūke, Jerome Hill, Chambray, 2 Bad Mice and many more. Added to this, he’s recently pulled back the curtains to reveal his ‘Polymod’ moniker, releasing on labels as forward-thinking as Dusky’s 17 Steps and Catz ‘N Dogz Pets Recordings.

Berlin-based Irish artist Hybrasil delivers a high-grade debut album on Radio Slave’s Rekids. Since moving to Berlin Hybrasil has been an avid buyer of records at Hardwax, going to modular workshops at the cult Schneidersladen, attending Superbooth and Berlin Atonal, Panorama Bar and Berghain, whilst releasing his big, arresting techno sounds on his own eponymous label. Alongside this he’s been spending time in the studio with Radio Slave, who played Hybrasil's ‘Hathor’ in Panorama Bar which kicked off a three-month burst of creativity that led to this album. As such, the album is very much a product of the artist's time in Berlin and was written for the Panorama Bar and Berghain sound system and all who attend its dance halls.

The album takes off with the smooth rolling techno of'Hathor'; that gets you on your toes, while 'Come Back'; soon ups the ante thanks to the way Hybrasil twists and turns his synths above the rooted kick drums. 'Ceres'; then has edgy sustained chords and thunderous claps that will sound mega in a cavernous warehouse space.

'Orpeheus'; is a masterclass in economical but effective techno, with well-crafted hi hats, rolling kicks and vocal stabs all driving it forward. 'Ursa Minor'; traps the listener in unresolved loops that keep a locked groove, until 'Messier'; mixes up seriously weighty bass-drum thuds and Jeff Mills style melodic minimalism. The compelling LP completes with 'Igigi'; and 'Vela', two more astral techno rollers with celestial synths and devastating drum programming.

Fabio & Grooverider have been at the forefront of UK dance music for over 3 decades. This is the roots of their story told through music.

The 2 London DJ's are part of the DNA of the global Jungle / D&B movement and they have remained relevant, cutting edge, authoritative and essential to this truly underground art-form since it's inception. RAGE could arguably be the ground zero of Jungle. The party was started at London's cavernous Heaven club by Fabio & Grooverider in 1988, at the height of Acid House fever that was making it's way up and down the motorways, slip-roads, fields and warehouses of the M25 and further beyond every weekend, troubling the nation, the police, your parents and the press as it went. RAGE was a different beast, it certainly channelled some of that Acid energy but pitted it against the new and exciting sounds emanating from Belgium, Amsterdam, Detroit, Sheffield, Essex and Hackney and in turn created a new style, a new sonic attitude and energy in the process. Rumbling bass-lines, narcotic synth rushes and roughly chopped and sped-up breakbeats all merged into a style that we now know as Jungle. Nothing like this had been heard before, this was a brand new style and it was coming out of London's West End and Fabio & Grooverider were the people firmly behind it.

RAGE is approaching its 30th anniversary. Its sonic and cultural legacy is still being felt today, Fabio & Groove are still shutting down raves and festivals every weekend all over the world with their superior DJ sets and musical knowledge guided by their pioneering spirit. This musical selection you hold in your hands, the first of 4 parts, sees them delve into their prodigious memories and record boxes to select a true musical representation of the very beginning of one of the UK's most unique and influential musical movements of the last 50 years. Across 4 x 2 x 12"s compilations we are taken on the journey through the sounds of RAGE, accompanied with track by track notes from Fabio & Groove themselves. This is the sound of the underground, from the inside out.

This is a masterclass in the old-school. The roots. There is no filler here, it's simply ALL killer. Lovingly selected and programmed by the masters - 'The Living Shock' & 'The Ladies Choice'. Berlin-based producer Adam Longman Parker announces Colored, his first full-length LP as Afriqua for R&S Records. The album is a celebration of the unifying power of Black culture through the prism of electronic music.

After releasing successful singles “Soul Correction,” and “Chronic Cool,” and the back-to-back Aleph and Vice/Principle EPs, a full-length album was the ideal format for Parker to expand on the sounds typified in his dancefloor productions. Colored is a natural culmination of Parker’s stylistic spectrum, spanning from house and techno to experimental and abstract electronica.

His heightened attention to production quality was inspired by seminal records in the canon of Black music, including work by Quincy Jones, Roy Ayers, and Weldon Irvine (who also hailed from Hampton, Parker’s hometown in Virginia). Colored, however, is adistinctly “un-nostalgic” album and these classics served more as archetypes of musical achievement than bases for imitation. “To the extent that it hearkens back, it does so in the sense of the sequencing and arrangement, in the pursuit of sonic accomplishment across the record"; says Parker.

Growing up in Virginia, Parker was exposed to a niche of local electronic music pioneers including The Neptunes, Timbaland, and Missy Elliot, artists whose early-2000s contributions to the movement are often overshadowed by their pop leanings. “The Virginia sound,” Parker says, is far more intrinsic to his process than the oft-replicated models of American house and techno: “Black electronic music doesn’t have to be from the Midwest—this isn’t from Detroit, this isn’t from Chicago. It’s from Virginia.”

From the ritual chants on “Shout,” to Motown’s African roots on “Upstream,” and the George Clinton-era psyfunk of “Space Dookie,” Colored’s diverse musical influences read like a lesson in Black music history. This panoramic approach extends to the album’s collaborators as well— lyrical wizard and J.Cole collaborator Salomon Faye, Belgian Afro-pop vocalist Zap Mama, LCD Soundsystem bassist Tyler Pope, and Parker’s brother, producer and songwriter Ruven. Colored was recorded at a number of studios across Europe and the U.S., including Octagon in London, moon in Brooklyn, Funkhaus/Saal 3 in Berlin, and ICP in Brussels. The bespoke album artwork was created by Atlanta artist Eric Mack.

Parker spent two years composing and assembling Colored, which thematically bridges the past and present milestones of Black music from their Southern roots to their most modern incarnations. “The overarching theme,” he says, “was reconciling this branch of the Black musical tree with its origins. It's not divisive, it's about celebrating the rightful origins of the music we all enjoy.”

Epic in scope, time and space, this multidimensional mind trip is for fans of Mark Leckey’s ‘Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore’, David Morales’ Red Zone dubs, Don Cherry’s ‘Organic Music Society’, The Orb’s ‘Ultraworld’ and KLF’s ‘Space’ and much more besides.

This ambient house masterpiece combines flavours gathered from across the galaxy, stewing them up into a delicious primordial soup. Old sci-fi soundtracks, acid, free jazz, avant garde, musique concrete, world music and more all whirl around an underground- dance-music axis.

Primarily LSOS are Seth Troxler and Phil Moffa, plus further opaque participants congregating to combine music, imagery, and storytelling into an inextricably linked whole, all wrapped-up in a philosophy of their own making.

Attempting something creatively that’s above-and-beyond, LSOS explore new ways to open doors of perception and challenge the reality vs. simulation paradigm, whilst capturing the spirit of Alejandro Jodorowsky, Philip K. Dick and Sun Ra within their music, live experiences and films.

These spiritual, psychoactive aural vibrations resonate for a long distance, all the way back to something deeper and more enchanting than the prosaicism of modern life.

A label shining a light on overlooked or unheralded creations and respectfully reissuing them for the contemporary audience. A label that respects and understands the connection between these disparate and sometimes forgotten forms of musical expression and celebrates them. Midnight Drive are extremely proud to reintroduce the world to the sublime after-hours, cult downtempo sounds of Belgian duo Pieter Kuyl and Jan Van Den Bergh aka Mappa Mundi.

Mappa Mundi's sole release 'Musaics' was released on Belgium's legendary USA Import label in 1990, riding on the wave of early trance and ambient house sounds and exploring the same sonic terrain and worlds as The Orb, The KLF, Sun Electric and other like minded outfits. A wonderful swirling collage or mosaic of breakbeats, samples and new-age synth stylings, 'Musaics' is indeed a real trip. A spontaneous late night studio concoction borne of endless takes and experimentation between Kuyl and Van Den Bergh who both display a deep knowledge and a shared love of different sounds from around the world. The end result is a meditative, sprawling journey that touches on many different styles from languid widescreen techno to frantic drum machine driven machine-funk, all while retaining a feeling of post-rave atmospherics and psychedelia. This is a very special record indeed, and is somewhat of a lost gem from a very fertile and interesting period in sample based music. Undoubtedly the perfect soundtrack to numerous late nights and early mornings to come, remastered and spread across 2 discs for maximum sonic playback.

Celebrating the 50th release on the Nonplus label, Instra:mental return with their sophomore album Timelines. A long awaited record that finally uncovers the unreleased gems of the legendary Autonomic Podcast series. This eleven track album features five, previously vinyl only cuts, with another six unreleased tracks from the vault.

This is an album that will feel nostalgic to some but new to others. Classics like Photograph and Pacific Heights transport the listener back to a time where Instra:mental started to blur the boundaries in a pool of multiple genres, allowing artists to dip their toes with creative freedom.

This release is mainly rooted in 170bpm (with the exception of “More Than”) but effortlessly feels like its spanning multiple tempos. With the techno infused Encke Gap to the slow pulsings of Deep Night. Timelines represents the embodiment of the Autonomic “Drum & Bass” movement, a slice of time that sounds modern despite being more than a decade in existence.

Timelines is a collectors piece that will sit happily in your physical or digital collection, an essential record that highlights the golden era of Instra:mental’s illustrious career.

UK techno legend Mark Broom returns to Rekids in February to release four uplifting cuts in the form of his ‘Break 97’ EP.

Mark Broom’s musical career is certainly something to behold – with over 150 releases over the past 25 years, on top of regular gigs across the world’s most renowned institutions, there’s no doubting his work ethic and his influence upon the scene. A prolific artist and true pioneer in the techno world, having worked with revered labels such as Warp, R&S, Ifach and Soma, and in more recent times Blueprint, EPM Music, Red Sonja Records and his own Beard Man Records, his ‘Break 97’ EP kick-starts 2019 for Radio Slave’s Rekids as the imprint adds yet another outstanding name to its roster following the likes of DJ Deep, Sebo K, DJ Spider and more.

‘Break 97’ sets the tone of the EP with a fusion of techno and disco, delicately blending funk-infused chords and resonating kicks amongst groove-filled vocals, before ‘Heart’ delivers inspiriting disco samples, punchy low end and elevating strings to reveal an effervescent aesthetic throughout. ‘EFB’ takes things up a notch, offering a dancefloor focused cut balancing rattling highs, vibrant synth flutters and a muffled vocal line, until ‘G Theme’ rounds out proceedings armed with robust percussion, electrifying vocals and undulating, euphoric keys.

Late Of The Pier announce a special 10th anniversary edition of their cult debut album ‘Fantasy Black Channel’, produced by Erol Alkan and released in 2008 to great acclaim. Fittingly, the reissue will be released on a limited lenticular edition of 500, alongside a standard edition both with heavyweight vinyl. Both reissues are accompanied by a digital companion album of unreleased demos and outtakes from the album recording sessions – set for release through Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label, landing in stores on 18th January 2019.

LOTP (Sam Eastgate, Andrew Faley, Ross Dawson and Sam Potter) were a band of inter-dimensional musicians who landed in the late noughts, whose wild journey took them from the quiet North West Leicestershire countryside to the stages of Coachella, Tokyo and beyond, touring with the likes of Soulwax and Justice. Their music was a mutant take on pop that described the chaos of being a teenager by looking forwards and backwards over and over again until the present moment started to make sense. Following the release of Fantasy Black Channel they put out singles ‘Blueberry’ and ‘Best In The Class’ in 2010, picking up fans from Mike Skinner to Dave Grohl along the way. Talking in a 2014 interview, Grohl exclaimed, “They blew my fucking mind. They’re called Late of the Pier. They made one record and disappeared. […] They use crazy computers and then they rock and it sounds like dubstep for one minute, then it’s a crazy prog thing, and it’s like, ‘Wow’.”
