DJs, producers and unrivaled selectors, Danny McLewin and Tom Coveney aka Psychemagik have announced their album ‘I Feel How This Night Should Look’ will be released October 11th via their own imprint Psychemagik Recordings.

Known for their beautiful production work, vast record collections and transcendent mixtape journeys, they boast one of the most impressive and comprehensive remix outputs in contemporary electronic music for names including Roisin Murphy, Noel Gallagher, Haim, Bryan Ferry, Beyond The Wizards Sleeve, Paul Weller and Metronomy.

‘I Feel How This Night Should Look’ is an album with a phenomenal backstory. It spans back over a decade back to when Tom and Danny first met in 2008 and produced the ten tracks over an intensive two year period following the birth of Psychemagik.

It was recorded at a number of esteemed locations primed for sonic craft including Kate Bush’s old workspace, George Martin’s Air Studios Lyndhurst Hall, where the duo recorded a seventeen piece string section and Toe Rag Studios recording drums onto tape. This album is a true labour of love.

The first taste of the album comes via first track, the effortlessly smooth and immediately deep ‘We Can Be One’ feat. Quinn Lamont Luke. An invigorating and ethereal cut offset with the acid rifts and the balearic vocals of New York’s Quinn Lamont Luke, ‘We Can Be One’ beautifully lays down the foundations and entry point into the endlessly unique and diverse world of Psychemagik.

‘Something To Believe’, features English garage rock royalty Holly Golightly which spans a sound palette as diverse and invigorating as one of the pair’s vastly eclectic DJ sets. The afro-harping ‘Seahorse’ is graced by the airy, wordless vocal styling of British jazz legend Norma Winstone. ‘Triumph Of The Gods’ featuring Renate Staal Nygård is an epic, piano and orchestra led tour de force, a funk fuelled soundtrack for a thriller yet to be made.

‘Ghost Particle’ glides along at cruising altitude featuring Canterbury’s wilfully underrated Syd Arthur, whilst ‘Above The Clouds’ and ‘Cosmic Forest’ are exquisite string and synth-led cosmic disco. ‘Le Paix Est Un Fleur’ deftly mixes psychedelic delights and easy listening.

Finally set for release on Psychemagik recordings on 11th October, ‘I Feel How This Night Should Look’ is testament to the duo’s deep understanding and love of their craft, an LP which hones a layered intelligence that only long-term dedication to the art and craft of the DJ can deliver.

    3. B2. Energy Sync (Accapella)

Returning for her second release on Phantasy, Terr captures further dancefloor magic on the blistering ‘Energy Sync’.

Following the success of ‘Tale of Devotion’, the Brazilian-born, Berlin-based producer continues to distill her exquisite instincts into an irresistible single that blends electro and disco influences with flawless song writing.

Built around a heartfelt and vulnerable refrain, the ‘Club Mix’ takes just seconds to explode into a wide-eyed anthem in waiting, maintaining pure ecstasy and cascading energy until it’s final, sensual modulation. On the contrary, Terr transforms the track into a wistful, weightless electro-pop moment for the ‘Original Mix’, building a slower if no less celebratory groove around her own vocals, which also feature as an acapella.

'Kalista' first appeared on our Dekmantel podcast and has been prompting enquiries about it ever since. The others were pretty much good to go, but something felt missing.. One day we received 'My Personal' out of the blue and now we're off to the races! Very happy to share these with the wider world.

    1. A1. Sao Paulo

    3. B1. 9000
    4. B2. Gelo Seco

Phillipi is set to release his debut solo EP ‘Amadurecimento’ on November 29th via DEEWEE, the multi-faceted label and creative space operated by brothers David and Stephen Dewaele (2manydjs, Soulwax).

São Paulo duo Phillipi & Rodrigo dropped their beautifully uplifting debut album ‘Paciencia’, which earned the backing of an eclectic array of supporters including 6 Music, Mixmag, DJ Mag, PAPER, Tiga and Joe Goddard + more.

While ‘Paciencia’ pulsated with a euphoric beach party vibe, Phillipi’s solo project explores much darker territory. By uncompromisingly maximising the bass alongside a relentless beat, lead track ‘São Paulo’ is immediately oppressive and ominous. That intensity only amplifies as it’s blown open with tribal percussion, almost whispered vocals and glitchy synth stabs. ‘Vibe De Verao’ then takes a more progressive approach, with minimalist techno constantly evolving in surprising and inventive ways.

The EP’s second half extends Phillipi’s impossible-to-pigeonhole approach. In complete contrast to the preceding tracks, ‘9000’ is cinematic in scope and lighter in tone, feeling like the score to a lost ‘70s sci-fi cult classic that’s been reworked for 2019. And ‘Gelo Seco’ caps an unorthodox sonic adventure by setting a spliced, stuttered vocal simple around a dancefloor-friendly soundscape - making the title, the Portuguese phrase for dry ice, entirely appropriate.

As with all DEEWEE releases, ‘Amadurecimento’ was recorded, produced and mixed at the label’s inspiring headquarters Ghent, Belgium.

Boston's Dana Kelley aka Callisto is a man whose music has long been the subject of much deserved adulation. A student of the deep and soulful, an explorer of the melodic and galactic, and an artist who manages to capture imaginations with his supremely crafted sonics. He is a much missed artist, someone who departed the physical too early, but the body of work he left behind has spoken to generations of listeners, DJ's and fans in equal measure.

This, the first of 3 compilations based around his golden period of productions for the legendary Chicago label Guidance Recordings, sees some of Dana's most highly coveted work featured side by side, all together in one place. A celebration of the man's music, his vision and the forward looking nature of his music that is still intact today. It's hard to think of someone with a more unique style and with a truer idea of their own sound-world. Callisto takes us deep inside, into other worlds with his own individualistic take on house, techno, ambient and even jungle and D&B.

These compilations celebrate one of the most idiosyncratic artists from the second wave of US house music producers, a truly essential body of work presented here respectfully, sourced from all audio sources courtesy of Above Board Projects, Guidance Recordings and Dana's family. Mastered by Curved, London and with special artwork by Atelier Superplus featuring a never before seen image of Dana from his family's photo albums.

Mint Condition - A record label focused on excavating the outer fringes of classic House and Techno. Unreleased mixes, classics and overlooked gems mined from the last 20+ of contemporary dance music are the order of the day. From Chicago, Detroit and New York to London and beyond, Mint Condition have got their expert digging hats on to bring you exclusive heat and those rarer than rare jams that have been on your wants list for years! Dig in....

Originally released on the legendary Pacific Records label outta London in 1996, 'EP #1' see the man Lee Renacre don his prestigious 100HZ pseudonym for a killer 4 tracker of rolling future-leaning tech housers. Tons of tones, flavours and styles on this slab of wax, EP opener 'Holic Soda' channels some tripping minimalism, cascading melodies intertwining over shuffling hi-hats giving everything an almost 'Robert Hood lost in London' feel. Ace. 'Foxy' is a very different proposition, it's all stripped back, jazzed out wiggly keys and someone's voice saying 'FOXY' over and over the skeletal drums while the bassline pokes us in the ribs, one for the movers! The b-side goes scuba diving straight away, the first cut 'Southern Lights' takes us under the waves, to the ocean floor with it's pacey bleeps and incessant chords, easily one of the highlights of this EP and an altogether killer track, true school techno - London style. 'Shapes' finishes us off, a shifting narcotic jam that unfolds and reveals ore and more sounds in the deadliest fashion. In the right hands this (& the other 3) track could do some serious damage in the right space or on the right floor. A masterclass in vintage, late 90's techno and deep house right here - do not miss!

'EP #1' has been legitimately re-released with the full involvement of 100HZ for 2019 and remastered by London's Curve Pusher from the original sources especially for Mint Condition. 100% legit, licensed and released. Dug, remastered, repackaged and brought to you by the caring folks at your favourite reissue label - Mint Condition!

A chance meeting in a New York club led to the conception of Mowgan’s debut album, in collaboration with renowned African Benin-born Nigeria raised singer and multi-instrumentalist, Kaleta (Leon Ligan-Majek) an ex Fela Kuti, Sunny Ade, Lauryn Hill cohort who also fronted Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble and presently heads up a 70s style afro funk band called Super Yamba based in NYC. The Frenchman was working at Lina Frey when he overheard a Beninese salsa singer called Laurent Hounsavi channeling Afro-centric vibes through his performance. He approached the singer and was put in touch with Kaleta, who lives in the Big Apple, too. What happened next was pure magic, as the two men got to work in the studio to bring their two worlds together.

It’s the kind of mystical alchemy that only happens once in a blue moon; Kaleta was given carte blanche over Mowgan’s extensive collection of Africa-inspired electronic instrumentals. He selected his favourites and performed on each one, delivering an original vocal, and his own guitar licks, over the top. To stir up even more electrifying vibes, Kaleta also invited several of his talented friends to join the recordings sessions - they included vocalists Shade Myers Emmanuel, Justin Masters and Gbenga Wise, Freddie Deboe on sax, Mic Dada assisting Mowgan on synth pads and Takuya Kuroda, the infamous Japanese trumpet player from Kobe who specialises in neo-soul, hip hop and electronica.

The result is ‘Karoussel’, a vibrant, dynamic, soul-enriching hybrid between electronica and deep African musicality that sets the standard for contemporary collaborations between western and African artists, and the first in a series of album projects from Mowgan on his fledgling label Mow Records...

Hot on the heels of Carl Craig and Stacey Pullen’s mixes, Waajeed's tells a highly personal tale of the Detroit spirit, of someone living and breathing its culture since a young age. Having grown up to the sounds of Roy Ayers, Kraftwerk and Funkadelic, cultivated his sonic profile alongside J Dilla as part of Slum Village, Waajeed launched his own Dirt Tech Reck label that veers towards more dancefloor-focused tracks. And even though Waajeed’s sound has gone through a multitude of changes over the years, his cautious understanding of the symbiosis between soul and grit has always remained true to its Motor City roots.

For the mix he calls upon a number of his most respected contemporaries, forging an authentic blend of genres spanning familiar grooves and a slew of unheard exclusives. From Patrice Scott and Doc Link to LADYMONIX and DJ Rimarkible, Detroit Love V o l. 3 blends the old and the new, the jazzy and the industrial, bound together by their idiosyncratic nods to the city’s legacy.

The vinyl release will include an eight-track package featuring many of the new and exclusive tracks from the compilation, including unheard material from Roddy Rod, Damon Bell and Teflon Dons amongst others.

Detroit Love Vol. 3 offers, yet again, a detailed portrait of the sounds and personalities that lend to the city’s rich musical heritage.

Fast rising Manchester talent Joseph Edmund presents the scintillating Dreams to Reality, his debut release on Hot Creations following his well-received The Pressure EP on sister label Hottrax.

Norrr kicks off with a chunky, addictive house beat, as playful vocals are injected before the introduction of a whirring bassline. The foot is then taken off the gas as the track breathes, before being hurled back into a peak time cut. On Fuego, zippy electronics combine with sirens, whistles and vocal loops, in a piece that is both charming and devious when these elements become tightly fused.

Joseph Edmund is an underground house and techno DJ/Producer from the musical city of Manchester. After starting to DJ at the age of 19, he began playing at Manchester’s best venues including Gorilla and Sankeys. Quickly turning his hand to production, he became immersed in the studio, spending countless hours learning his craft and developing his sound. His early releases have already been supported by Steve Lawler, Solardo, Patrick Topping, Mark Jenkyns, Nathan Borato, Jey Kurmis and Latmun. The pinnacle came when his music reached the attention of Hot Creations boss Jamie Jones, who swiftly signed a three track EP to his Hottrax label. Joseph has also received regular support on BBC Radio 1 from Monki and Danny Howard.

An artist that has remained a central part of the London electronic music scene for over a decade, FUSE residentand NxT records boss Rich NxT is an artist that embodies the sound of the city’s evolution throughout the years, taking influences from all pockets of the scene - from drum’n‘bass and jungle through to the minimal and tech house sounds that later took hold of the blossoming after-hours circuit. Having touched down on the label earlier this year alongside East End Dubs as the pairing released the impressive ‘The Four Slip’ EP, whilst also recently providing two collaborative cuts on label boss Siragusa’s latest ‘A Decade Of Rave’ LP project, November sees Rich return to home turf to deliver his second solo EP on the label of the year, with Eastenderz head East End Dubs also returning to provide an energy-fueled remix on the flip.

Opening proceedings, title track ‘Suburban Skool’ offers up a trademark slice of rolling house music as slick percussion arrangements meet bumping bass stabs and scintillating electronic melodies swirl around old school rave samples, whilst the slinking ‘Rex Press’ keeps the energy high as echoed vocals ebb and flow amongst bright lead lines, crisp drum licks, intriguing breakdowns and builds throughout. Shaping up the package, East End Dubs steps up to offer up a dynamic interpretation of ‘Rex Press’, utilising punchy kicks alongside soaring synth lines and driving snare rolls to impressive effect.

‘Every Body Is Welcome’ will be released on 22nd of November. Smudging the boundaries between eras and styles, Elkka’s free-wheeling dance tracks float between club beats, earthy sounds, full of warmth, soft edges and lovely instrumentation which all lead to a completely captivating and blissful listen. The infectious new five-track EP looks set to further solidify her status as one of the artists changing the shape of dance music in 2019.

The EP kicks off with an acid-sounding dance thumper that elegantly moves along the piano melody, for a beautiful house start to the whole project. In typical Elkka style, the EP moves from the atmospheric, sun-soaked rhythms of ‘Compromise for What’ and ‘LVURSLF’ Interlude, to the more club-oriented, 4am nightscapes of ‘Avant Garde’ - ending with ‘Breathe’, the perfect union to these two different sides of her artistry in one elegant, thumping, soulful track.

‘Every Body Is Welcome’ was informed by Elkka’s own deeper understanding of who she is as an artist and what the dance floor means to her, claiming that “Arriving in London in my early 20s I was a completely different person in every possible way and discovering club culture, the rave scene and queer spaces allowed me to explore myself fully as a woman and as queer person. For me, the dance floor has been a place where I have felt the most liberated, the most myself, unified with friends and strangers by the music and moment we are sharing. This EP is a celebration of those moments, of the dance floor, of dance music that has inspired me creatively and personally. Every Body Is Welcome symbolises what I hope the dance floor to be - a music utopia or haven, somewhere for everyone to feel safe to express themselves, to find themselves, to be whoever they want to be and feel part of a community of acceptance and tolerance. Idealistic? Yes but I think art should be a space to express idealism and where we hope to be
     .”

Her previous EP ‘Full Circle’, released via femme culture, received acclaim and support from Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Tom Ravenscroft and Elkka was also named as one of the artists to watch in 2019 by Mixmag. In addition, Elkka has garnered playlist and radio plays from acclaimed producers Four Tet, Floating Point’s and George Fitzgerald.

Elkka founded the femme culture label and collective in 2016 in response to the lack of support for womxn DJs, producer and artists, later teaming up with fellow DJ and creative Ludo who she now co-runs the platform with. Since then, the progressively minded collective have been swiftly gaining recognition with their boundary-free ethos that champions women, women-identifying, artists and the LGBTQ+ community whilst pushing forward-thinking music through their carefully, curated club nights and events.

Earlier this year they released their second label compilation ‘HeForShe x femme culture.’ Compiled in aid of the UN Women, the compilation featured fresh new sounds from the likes of Lone, Elkka herself, Martin Bootyspoon, India Jordan, Ouri, Nightwave and more - and earlier this summer they hosted their annual alternative Pride after-party ‘PROUD’, in which all the proceeds went to The Albert Kennedy Trust (a charity for homeless LGBTQ youthsworthy causes)

Hoshina Anniversary is conquerer of the mind, creating the most beautiful sound, other than silence. This is his first offering for the ESP Institute. Side A’s 'Sagano' is fairly representative of the Hoshina sound — raw organic samples and instrumentation, of traditional Japanese origin, mercilessly bent and tweaked to suit the needs of his obsessively precise arrangement. Midway through the track, we’re bewildered by his demonic breakdown on the Rhodes, which daringly tags the bassline and strings into a synchronized trio of jazz-funk noodles, and he even throws in a key change before dropping us back into the main hook for the duration of the dance. It's a major flex, and indeed makes an impression. On side B’s 'Haru Wa Akebono', Hoshina displays an alternate and equally significant side to his songwriting, merging optimistic twinkles and arpeggios with slightly detuned dry percussion for an overall uneasy vibe, not dissimilar to early video game aesthetics or circuit-bent toys. Across both sides, there lies an unhinged overtone, such that we feel one small step from spiraling deep into a demented quicksand, a freak-out where hallucinations get the better of us. Initiating a breadth of releases planned with the ESP Institute, this single summarizes a few of Hoshina’s most compelling modes, and though there is a whole circus yet to unfold, we hold his cards close, no spoilers before the main act. These two songs will have you drinking moon juice and dancing naked at the Mardi Gras.

New York dance music royalty Louie Vega and The Martinez Brothers have joined forces on new single ‘Let It Go’, out 15th November via Cuttin’ Headz.

First featuring on The Martinez Brothers’ recent fabric presents mix, ‘Let It Go’ is a gloriously stripped-back dose of New York house. It features the nonchalant yet hypnotic vocals of San Francisco-born singer-songwriter Marc E. Bassy, who delivers a catchy hook that underpins the track. The record’s artwork has also been crafted by NYC graffiti legend Lee Quiñones, with its vintage style harking back to the golden era of the city’s music scene.

“We had been trying to get our schedules together so we can work and it finally came to fruition. Once we were in the studio we just gelled and complemented each other. Last winter in New York City during the holiday season we came up with some hot tracks, one was the music to ‘Let It Go,’” Vega explains.

“The Martinez Brothers were then in Los Angeles doing some recording sessions and they met up with Marc E. Bassy. Once they gave Marc the mic in the studio he just came with this super hot song on our track. I received the vocal stems, then myself and TMB got together and did some arranging on the vocals and this masterpiece was born!”

One half of legendary house duo Masters at Work alongside Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez, Louie Vega has previously collaborated with everyone from Luther Vandross, Gloria Estefan and Janet Jackson to Will Smith, Jamiroquai and Madonna. ‘Let It Go’ marks the second time he’s released a track with The Martinez Brothers, following last year’s single ‘Shut The Door’.

Previously citing Vega as a primary influence during their formative years, The Martinez Brothers were touring the world with the likes of him, Dennis Ferrer and Erick Morillo before they had even finished high school. In the years since the bros have become one of the hottest double acts in dance music, again making Ibiza their launch pad this summer and throwing Cuttin’ Headz parties on the White Isle for the first time.

With two generations of New York’s vibrant dance music scene joining forces on ‘Let It Go’, it’s little wonder the results are so slick.

drum ’n bass royalty Onallee, with label boss Archie Hamilton serving up a fresh VIP mix.

Taken from Hamilton’s debut album ‘Archive Fiction’, which dropped earlier this year on Moscow Records, ‘Eye Of The Storm’ featuring Reprazent artist Onallee, gets the remix treatment from two renowned producers with a reimagined garage inspired mix from the boss himself. Two acclaimed British artists, Rekids boss and esteemed remixer Radio Slave leads the release with Hamilton’s VIP mix alongside Olmeto and Plank Records owner and artist Bushwacka!

Radio Slave’s remix of ‘Eye Of The Storm feat. Onallee’ opens with a thundering kick, haunting effects, rolling vox-cuts and rattling hats with an ecstasy inducing breakdown. Archie Hamilton’s VIP mix then goes down a classic bubbling bassline route, featuring crunchy cymbals and phasing synths when Bushwacka! then goes on to close the release with break styled drum programming, rumbling toms, zapping flute like samples and jungle shakers on his remix.

‘Wild Slide’ is the debut album from techno supergroup, Better Lost Than Stupid, aka 3 of the world’s finest producers and DJs - Martin Buttrich, Davide Squillace, and Matthias Tanzmann. Released on 13 September by Skint/BMG, the 11 track album follows a slew of singles - ‘Back From The Desert’, ‘The Sky Is Too Low’, and ‘Inside’ – which have won praise from the likes of Mixmag, Dancing Astronaut, RA, Radio 1 (Pete Tong and Danny Howard), Marco Carola, Dubfire, Nicole Moudaber, Kolsch, Joris Voorn, Claptone, Eats Everything, Adam Beyer, and many more.

‘Wild Slide’ shows that the comparisons made between Better Lost’ and stadium techno acts like The Chemical Brothers, and Underworld, stand up. The production quality is every bit as good as you’d expect from Buttrich and co, and the songs have been crafted and written by three people who’ve spent their lives making music and then playing it to hundreds of thousands of people.

‘Wild Slide’ was largely written and produced in studio sessions over the past year at Martin’s studio in Barcelona, and saw the trio come together more like a traditional band, alongside close friends and collaborators including Jonathan Illel (JAW/DOP), Theo Altieri (CHANEY), Amber Van Day, and Alex Naza; the album was mastered by Bob Ludwig (nominated for 11 Grammy Awards).

Once the album recording was completed in late spring, the trio went fully into live rehearsals ahead of their first shows in May at Heart Ibiza, and London’s The Steelyard. A triumphant culmination of months of intense work, both shows saw Better Lost’s songs transformed into a blistering live set.
Forthcoming live shows will be announced soon.

Though the live shows debuted in May, as DJs, Better Lost Than Stupid have already played a long list of memorable sets including a Miami Winter Music Conference headline show for Arcadia; a sold out headline show at Koko in London, their standout BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, headlined legendary
Ibiza venue, Amnesia, and at the likes of Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Circoloco at DC10, Krystal Club in Romania, and BPM Festival. that combine synth-pop (‘Inside’, ‘Wild Slide’), electronica (‘Boys & Girls’, ‘Harder Than Gold’), indie rock (‘Back From The Desert’), and downtempo (‘Without The Feeling’, ‘Bender’), with the kind of euphoric techno moments they’re individually known for (‘Inside’, ‘Right Now’).

Vinyl only imprint DMK (sub-label of Dogmatik Records) returns this November with the ‘Future Funk’ EP from Alex Jann.

Alex Jann’s material has amassed a wide array of supporters over the years, from Solid Blake and Alienata to Dave Clarke, Afrodeutsche and Posthuman his strictly hardware and modular synth workouts perfectly weave emotional synthesis with raw, gritty aesthetics. He’s released several EP’s over the years on labels such as his own Censor imprint with remixes of his work by such artists as Marco Bernardi & Animistic Beliefs, multiple EP’s with Clive Henry and shared label space on Rhythm Cult alongside Deadbeat, Barem, & Aquarius Heaven.

Title-cut ‘Future Funk’ leads with crunchy 808 style bumpy drums, tension building strings and squelchy acid licks at its core, while ethereal pad swells and wandering sub bass tones wander within the groove. ‘Robotic Prayer’ follows next, with shuffled percussion, soft atmospherics and a choppy bass line smoothly carried across five and a half minutes all subtly nuanced throughout.

Opening the flip side is ‘The Return’ which employs robust drums and murky synth flutters alongside cinematic string melodies before ‘Liberation Of Mass’ rounds out the release, fusing a broken rhythm and intricately programmed oscillating synth effects to create a hypnotic end to the EP.

Following a busy summer playing at the likes of Rex Club, Tresor and Hï Ibiza, Hester now returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects techno imprint in fine form.

‘Accelerator’ opens with solid, overdriven kicks, deep chords, electrifying synth patterns and saturated claps followed by ‘Beatwave’ which features rhythm-led vocal sampling, upbeat Arp stabs and sparking cymbals. On the flip, ‘Zoned’ thunders with low-end frequencies, emphasised by a flying groove with snappy hats, subtle claves and white noise hits when to finalise ‘Part 4’ bounces with distant congas and tribal percussion, tight hi-hats, floating pads and a punchy kick.

R&S Records team up with London-based label More Time Records for a four track compilation repping their signature sound of forward-thinking, percussion-driven dance music.

More Time is headed up by DJ/producers SNØW and Ahadadream, their releases reflect an international vision; marrying the sounds of Ghana, Trinidad, Saudi Arabia, The DRC and South Africa with a rugged UK edge that harmoniously circles bass, afrobeats, UK funky, grime and techno.

SNØW and Ahadadream both deliver club ready instrumentals that draw on their love of UK Funky, GQOM, Kuduro and Afrobeats. Bryte is one of the most exciting voices coming out of Ghana, his track 'Ice Cream' set's the tone for the EP. Produced by regular partner-in-crime, Mina and previous collaborator Tarquin (both from London) - it really summarises the cross contamination of sounds which More Time is a hub for.

Bala Bala Boyz are a group of rappers from London of Congolese descent. 'Sieta' notches up the tempo on a 808 heavy power soca riddim from Trinidad via Bristol production duo Jus Now (SNØW, Keshav Singh)

Since R&S relaunched it's supported new UK artists from its London base. More Time Records and the wider global percussive club music scene are releasing some of the freshest dance music in London so we're excited to showcase this sound on Volume 1 of this new collaboration.

More Time say of the collaboration:
"We're gassed to be joining forces with and learn from such a seminal label which we've been fans of for a long time. We really appreciate the love they have shown our movement and are really excited for their fans to discover the artists and sounds that we are so passionate about"

On the night of 15th June 2018, three friends, Dave Okumu, Tom Herbert and Tom Skinner came together to perform a selection of deconstructed compositions in an improvisatory format at The Crypt in Camberwell, south-east London. Their shared history as musicians stretches back to their formative teenage years when they would congregate to learn how to play the music which had impacted so heavily on their lives, resulting in a distillation of funk, soul, pop, metal, classical, punk, hip hop, dance, folk, electronic and world music, filtered through the prism of the endlessly resourceful, inventive and expressive language of jazz.

Their individual and collective journeys have woven them into the fabric of contemporary music through their work with artists as diverse as Adele, Grace Jones, Anna Calvi, Amy Winehouse, Sons Of Kemet, Kano, Lianne La Havas, Zero 7, Ed O’Brien, Jack De Johnette, Jessie Ware, Yoko Ono and Polar Bear. Their personal visions have come to fruition via their own projects, namely Okumu and Herbert’s Mercury-nominated The Invisible and Skinner’s solo outing as Hello Skinny.

Somehow, that informal night in Camberwell would represent the closing of a circle and the beginning of a new chapter for these three musicians.

Shot in Iceland, the video “Forever Love“ was directed by her best friend, visual artist Ragnar Kjartansson and the director, Allan Sigurðsson.

“The music I’d been writing over the years was a very personal affair, something I did for emotional and spiritual survival,” says Kristín Anna. As for the album title, “It just came to me, and then I went about my business, being an imperfect human being, my own centre, within this divine order we call the universe.”

Kristín Anna is a founding member of the band múm. In 2006, began performing her piano songs along with more experimental electronic music under the alias Kría Brekkan. Living and working in her native country Iceland since 2010, her creative outlet took the shape of performance and visual art, where she collaborated with Shoplifter and Guy Maddin, performing and composing for their installations. In 2012, she performed in Ragnar Kjartansson´s acclaimed video installation The Visitors, and has since worked on many of his pieces, variably composing, performing or acting. Most recently, they wrote the song “On Death” for Sophie Calle’s LP and art project Souris Calle. In 2015, Kristín Anna released HOWL, an improvised vocal ambient album and art work created in Mojave desert.

Ragnar Kjartansson, founder of Bel-Air Glamour adds, “Kristín Anna is an artist like no other. Kristín roams the earth weaving a thread of her life, her loves, her dreams into this confessional gem of an album. The music is a reflection of life lived away from the norms banging old pianos and celebrating a conflicted lust for life. I Must Be The Devil is a cycle of songs written in the last 15 years and recorded in the last four years. This is a big record full of deep truths, suffering, irony and beauty. Unique songs by a unique artist. Yes this is real, this is good old mysterious talent. The record was produced and financed by her friends in the music and visual art scene. She is an artist’s artist.”

Berlin-based producer Adam Longman Parker announces Colored, his first full-length LP as Afriqua for R&S Records. The album is a celebration of the unifying power of Black culture through the prism of electronic music.

After releasing successful singles “Soul Correction,” and “Chronic Cool,” and the back-to-back Aleph and Vice/Principle EPs, a full-length album was the ideal format for Parker to expand on the sounds typified in his dancefloor productions. Colored is a natural culmination of Parker’s stylistic spectrum, spanning from house and techno to experimental and abstract electronica.

His heightened attention to production quality was inspired by seminal records in the canon of Black music, including work by Quincy Jones, Roy Ayers, and Weldon Irvine (who also hailed from Hampton, Parker’s hometown in Virginia). Colored, however, is adistinctly “un-nostalgic” album and these classics served more as archetypes of musical achievement than bases for imitation. “To the extent that it hearkens back, it does so in the sense of the sequencing and arrangement, in the pursuit of sonic accomplishment across the record"; says Parker.

Growing up in Virginia, Parker was exposed to a niche of local electronic music pioneers including The Neptunes, Timbaland, and Missy Elliot, artists whose early-2000s contributions to the movement are often overshadowed by their pop leanings. “The Virginia sound,” Parker says, is far more intrinsic to his process than the oft-replicated models of American house and techno: “Black electronic music doesn’t have to be from the Midwest—this isn’t from Detroit, this isn’t from Chicago. It’s from Virginia.”

From the ritual chants on “Shout,” to Motown’s African roots on “Upstream,” and the George Clinton-era psyfunk of “Space Dookie,” Colored’s diverse musical influences read like a lesson in Black music history. This panoramic approach extends to the album’s collaborators as well— lyrical wizard and J.Cole collaborator Salomon Faye, Belgian Afro-pop vocalist Zap Mama, LCD Soundsystem bassist Tyler Pope, and Parker’s brother, producer and songwriter Ruven. Colored was recorded at a number of studios across Europe and the U.S., including Octagon in London, moon in Brooklyn, Funkhaus/Saal 3 in Berlin, and ICP in Brussels. The bespoke album artwork was created by Atlanta artist Eric Mack.

Parker spent two years composing and assembling Colored, which thematically bridges the past and present milestones of Black music from their Southern roots to their most modern incarnations. “The overarching theme,” he says, “was reconciling this branch of the Black musical tree with its origins. It's not divisive, it's about celebrating the rightful origins of the music we all enjoy.”

R&S present the eponymous, debut, full length album transmission from Lost Souls Of Saturn. Epic in scope, time and space, this multidimensional mind trip is for fans of Mark Leckey’s ‘Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore’, David Morales’ Red Zone dubs, Don Cherry’s ‘Organic Music Society’, The Orb’s ‘Ultraworld’ and KLF’s ‘Space’ and much more besides.

This ambient house masterpiece combines flavours gathered from across the galaxy, stewing them up into a delicious primordial soup. Old sci-fi soundtracks, acid, free jazz, avant garde, musique concrete, world music and more all whirl around an underground- dance-music axis.

Primarily LSOS are Seth Troxler and Phil Moffa, plus further opaque participants congregating to combine music, imagery, and storytelling into an inextricably linked whole, all wrapped-up in a philosophy of their own making.

Attempting something creatively that’s above-and-beyond, LSOS explore new ways to open doors of perception and challenge the reality vs. simulation paradigm, whilst capturing the spirit of Alejandro Jodorowsky, Philip K. Dick and Sun Ra within their music, live experiences and films.

These spiritual, psychoactive aural vibrations resonate for a long distance, all the way back to something deeper and more enchanting than the prosaicism of modern life.

Having begun in spring 2019 with the Moment EP, featuring her international hit ‘Starry Night’, Peggy Gou continues the story of Gudu Records with an EP from one of dance music’s most prolific artists, DMX Krew. Closely associated with Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label, Ed DMX emerges once more from the underground with four sublime tracks of charismatic electronics, as potent and unmistakable as any music produced across his three-decade discography.

For the uninitiated, opening track ‘CJ Vibe’ is the perfect, floor-focused distillation of DMX Krew’s timeless studio powering into psychedelic life, as a spaced out, playful synth line holds fort through a detailed house music trip. ‘DXIOO’ heads further down the techno wormhole - a rich, deep ballad of entangled DX100 and TR909 that expands to overwhelming machine funk.

On the flip, ‘Don’t You Wanna Play?’ strikes immediately to deliver the EP’s most suitably playful cut, pairing irresistible modulations with sharp toms and hugely satisfying hits of cowbell, revisiting the frantic atmosphere imprinted within the carefree rave heritage of the DMX Krew project. Finally, ‘110 Series’ dials down the tempo while retaining the high-spirits for an inspired composition that sees Ed take his numerous synths on a skilful and melodic moonwalk around the studio, then onwards to the dancefloor.

Presenting a fully legit, remastered and repackaged reissue of this essential various artists collection from 1989 on 2 x 12".

London's Warriors Dance label was a unique operation and a pioneering London label during the late 80's acid house phenomena. Home to an assortment of DJs, MCs and soundmen, they went on to make their own original and indelible mark on the rave scene from the infamous 'Addis Ababa' studio on Harrow Road on the North-West side of the city. A former reggae and soul studio that was instrumental to the output of influential artists like Soul II Soul and more, a steady diet of reggae, bass, hip-hop, house and techno kept their edgy, and diehard UK sound and style right at the cutting edge of the dance music underground across the globe with the top DJs and producers of the day celebrating the label. The studio, helmed by label owner Tony ‘Addis’, acted as an incubator for artists whose names would go down in the history books.

A slew of local talent and a network of DJ's, producers, artists and associates formed around the WD camp and helped forge the instantly recognisable sound and aesthetics of the label and it's mission statement. Among these were No Smoke, The Housemaids, Watt Noize, James Harris and many more. 'Tuffest Of The Tuff' acted as a solid intro and expansion on these artists sounds alongside some other crew members. Featuring new material, special versions of known tracks, remixes and more, 'Tuffest...' is a super heavyweight collection that further solidifies the Warriors as a formidable force in the London underground. This is an updated and expanded 2019 version of the compilation that boasts some unreleased DAT tape outtakes and cuts that have never seen the light of day - until now! This compilation is crammed full of the breakbeats, deep as the centre of the earth basslines, left-field influenced acid cuts and dubwise new-wave esque dance sounds we've come to expect and love from the WD camp. Truly a label that was on a creative roll at the time, blazing trails and staying true '89 style. Respect!

An essential purchase, spread across 2 pieces of wax for your ultimate playback enjoyment. Featuring original label artwork and picture sleeves tweaked by Atelier Superplus. All cuts lovingly remastered by Optimum Mastering, Bristol, UK from the master sources. Special thanks to Nicky Trax & Tony Addis. Proudly distributed by Above Board distribution. 2019.
