What a privilege it is to continue this series of reworks and remasters on Food Music and this time we’ve got "I’m Rushing” from Bump!! The original from 1992 was (and still is) one of the most infectious house records ever made, with it’s uplifting synth patterns and vocals filling the air with pure joy and happiness. In addition to a re-master on the well known original, the new reworks here bring “I’m Rushing” bang up to date in impeccable style. Chambray leads the charge with an uplifting new synth pattern and pounding drums which compliment the original so well. Theo Kottis steps up with a beautiful mix that adds an Italo twist to complete a killer reworks package. Don’t sleep on this one.
May 2020 sees Gianluca Pegoiani drop his Visionquest debut in the form of the "Fifth Room EP". Pegoiani has been collecting records, analog machines and hitting the clubs since the mid 90's, taking inspiration from the greats like Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin and Derrick May. He has lived all over the world and has worked as a promoter at Mazoom / Le Plaisir, Vice and Blok in Brescia, Italy. In addition to collaborating with duo Polydrum for Skream's "Of Unsound Mind" label he has also produced releases for NGtrax and Rebirth Records.
The Fifth Room EP comes in hot with the fast paced A1, "One Room". Filling the space with rising and falling rhythmic sounds secured by a fat kick. Ethereal, almost choral pads emerge that give way to a skittery, chopped up vocal. In the second half of the track, the gate on the vocal opens up and the sound fills up with even more drenched pads.
For the A2, Berlin staple and fellow Italian DJ and producer Hubble checks in with his take on "One Room". The remix enters with methodical kicks and shifting bass tones, as seemingly 'found sound' percussion scrapes through the dense bass. The vocal peers in from a distance as the back half of the track undulates between bass tones, vocal and metallic percussion.
On the B2, "One Key", begins with reversed strings where u can almost hear the bow sliding back and forth. An indistinguishable vocal loop brings the listener back into the kick/snare and ricocheting percussion hits that bounce around the spectrum. New reversed strings jump in giving a nostalgia drenched Mediterranean vibe that somehow brings a tense energy. The tension continues to build until the end, leaving the listener excited and in anticipation for the the artists next offering.

Founded in 1988, the Nu Groove catalogue is a true reflection of New York’s house sound. Started by Frank and Karen Mendez as an outlet for some of Rheji and Ronald Burrell’s more experimental musical ventures, the label would go on to help launch the careers of a number of local talents including Joey Beltram and Kenny Dope, but the Burrell brothers were by far the most prolific. Over thirty years later, Luke Solomon has re-assembled the catalogue and the spirit of this legendary New York label, with this 2 x 12” package celebrating some essentials from its catalogue. Featuring cuts from Bäs Noir, Aphrodisiac, N.Y. House’n Authority and K.A.T.O plus remixes from Tommy Musto and Frankie Bones, this collection of late 80’s and early 90’s gems is a record box essential and blissful re-introduction to the Nu Groove sound.
The second VA from Velvet Pony is a collection of dusty house tracks that Art Alfie has gathered for the occasion, all plucked from the fertile house soils of Stockholm. It includes the first music from Mr. Tophat & Art Alfie since 2016, a laid back burner from lady of the hour Bella Boo and an absolute belter of a sample fest from Art Alfie and Måns Glaeser. The last mentioned pair round of the release with a solo track each.
Tripmastaz touches down on Infuse as he delivers the four-track ‘Whut Klubb Phuture Holdz’ this May.
Having released a wealth of quality cuts across the house and minimal spectrum for over a decade, Russian-born DJ and producer Tripmastaz has grown to become a go-to producer for many, serving up his dynamic blend of house sonics accented by hip-hop influences via notable imprints such as Ovum, Yoyaku and Bass Culture. Next, the lively ‘Original Rudebwoy’ sees sharp hi-hats meet two-step drum arrangements atop of menacing garage tinged low-ends, before closing proceedings with ‘Someone’ – a paired-back, groove heavy production led by infectious vocals and airy chords throughout.

Yet another solid gold modern reimagining of the mighty Loleatta Holloway, this time her infamous 1977 smash 'Hit & Run' goes under the knife and is tweaked to devastating effect by 2 of Chicago's finest modern day editors - Jamie 326 & Cratebug. Anyone with even a passing interest in Disco or House will be more than familiar with these 2 guys names. Having edited and remixed numerous cuts in their own original ways, they take this all-time Salsoul classic and strip it right back to the essence, to the very basics, and in the process create a total dancefloor weapon. This edit originally came out a few years ago (2013) on a compilation that showcased the new wave of contemporary talent emanating from the Windy City and naturally it was one of the cuts that stood out, finding favour with a wide variety of DJ's across the board from Motor City Drum Ensemble, Todd Terry, Jeremy Underground Paris, Theo Parrish and more. Drawing comparisons with Paperclip People's anthemic 'Throw' from 1994 in the way it snatches a killer loop from 'Hit & Run's' bassline, 'Hit It & Quit It' is a monster, a record you'll literally play over and over and over again, a relentless Disco juggernaut that oozes power. It made perfect sense for this legit single-sided reissue 12" to come out on Salsoul Records, the home of Loleatta Holloway's finest material and all of her classics. This limited reissue has been made in conjunction with Jamie 3:26 & Cratebug and Salsoul Records, 100% sanctioned and lovingly re-presented for your dancing pleasure. This one is HOT. Sleep at your peril!
Jingo / Thousand Finger Man (Transparent Vinyl Repress)
Candido Cameron was a Cuban percussion maestro who had played with luminaries such as Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich and Count Basie throughout his illustrious musical career which started in 1952. Fast forward to 1979 and Candido finds himself caught up in the Disco boom that had engulfed his adopted New York City. Feeling he could add his trademark quick-fire Conga and Bongo playing to Disco's straight 4 x 4 syncopated rhythm he cut some records with legendary NYC label Salsoul. The fruits of this partnership were 2 full length LP's and a handful of 12" singles that changed the face of underground Disco."Jingo" is an all-time classic dance record, sampled, edited, re-configured and coveted by too many names to mention! It's a killer funky Disco version of master Nigerian drummer Olatunji's 1969 percussion suite of the same name, Salsoul style, while over on the flip we have one of the deepest Disco records of all time; "Thousand Finger Man" a testament to Candido's percussion prowess and a spacey, beautiful voyage that has left more than an indelible mark on modern House music, often being cited as a huge influence by artists such as Masters At Work and more. Essential stuff basically, every collection should have a copy!
This 12" has got to be one of the toughest Salsoul records to find. Changing hands for up to £300 a time for a used copy. Now it has been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with all original label artwork intact with the permission of Salsoul Records, New York City.
Why Can't We Live Together (Late Nite Tuff Guy Rework) (Yellow Vinyl Repress)
B Why Can't We Live Together - LNTG No More War Rework
Official re issue of this timeless classic featuring a fantastic update from Australia's Late Nite Tuff Guy - Tuff Cut Records. Their version has already had 62,000 plays on Soundcloud.
In LNTG own words of how their "No More War Rework" came around :
About 6 months ago, just before I set off on my 5 month tour of Europe I got a message from a good friend of mine asking me if I would edit a track that he loves.
I said of course, and asked him what track.
Turns out its a big favourite of mine also.
'Why Can't We Live Together' by Timmy Thomas is an amazing song with a strong message that is even more relevant today than it was back in 1972.
The message is clear, it's simple, it's beautiful.
I'm saddened by recent events around the world and I've always tried to spread love through music, because for me, music is love.
I hope you share the message and enjoy.
Kenix Music feat. Bobby Youngblood
There's Never Been Someone Like You (White Vinyl Repress)
Another rare nugget culled from West Ends incredibly influential back catalog. "There's Never Been Someone Like You" is a smoothed out soulful Disco jam and a Paradise Garage classic! Produced by the mighty Kenton Nix whose credits include working on records for Taana Gardner, Gwen McCrae and The Treacherous Three among many others and featuring the exceptional vocal talents of underground Soul singer Bobby Youngblood.
Kenton Nix was something of a prodigious production talent who worked on numerous independent and major label projects and was a good friend of Larry Levan and had the honor of hearing his rough mixes and versions through the Paradise Garage sound-system which helped shape the end result of the records he was involved in. "There's Never Been Someone Like You" has always been a popular and sought after 12" among Disco / Boogie / Funk collecting aficionados since it's release nearly 34 years ago in 1980 and continues to be an influential record now in contemporary dance music. An utterly essential Disco-groove!
This is the very first time this record has been re-issued and this pressing features both the long "dance" version and shorter 7" mixes of the track just like the original pressing from 1980. It has been re-mastered and re-pressed with the permission of and in conjunction with West End Records, New York City.
We'll Be Together (Inc. Moscoman / Francesco Mami Remixes)
Ae:ther releases the stunning single We’ll Be Together, taken from his 2019 debut album on Crosstown Rebels titled Me. Also featured is an exclusive new track and vibrant remixes from Moscoman and Francesco Mami.
On We’ll Be Together a unifying atmosphere is created with intense energy as intricate melodies weave in and out of an introspective vocal, locked to the groove. Blue Lagoon is a glorious subaquatic soundscape crafted by Ae:ther’s trademark celestial synths and taut percussion. Disco Halal boss Moscoman brings his unpredictable and alternative style to the first remix of We’ll Be Together with retro keys and dreamy pads. Finally, Francesco Mami turns in an uplifting house rework, adding infectious rhythm that will work wonders on the dancefloor.
Born and raised in Rome, with German DNA, Ae:ther is an artist who has established his pedigree as a formidable producer and selector. Following six years in London maturing as an artist, producing at Fortress Studios in Old Street and befriending neighbours such as Bicep, he moved to Berlin. Joining like-minded collaborators Mind Against and Tale of Us, Ae:ther immersed himself in the City's scene. After releasing dazzling EPs on Afterlife, his sound of deep emotion and expert audio design came to the attention of Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus, who signed the debut album Me unequivocally. At the birth of electronic music, its visionary pioneers wanted to soundtrack the future, now that future is here it’s artists like Ae:ther who take up the mantle and guide us into the unknown.
Always collecting and deep selecting. Bobby got grooves and he knows how to move. Welcome to Bobbys house!! Art Alfie brings you the premiere EP from Bobby Salaam on his label Velvet Pony. In his own words: ”I met Bobby around 10 years ago at a gallery party. He was playing dope techno in a way I don’t expect people I don’t know of from beforehand to do. He’s like that, better than most, more secretive than all. This EP shows of his housier side. Super classy groovers for never-ending dance floors. Im beyond proud and happy that I get to share Bobby and his music properly with the world.”
More quality from the Trax vaults. Robert Owens classic from 1986 - produced by Larry Heard/Mr. Fingers. Re mastered versions from the Traxbox compilation.

Swedish DJ/Producer Christian Nielsen debuts on Maceo Plex's Ellum imprint with the ‘Love Struck’ EP this May.
The four track EP continues a strong start to 2020 with releases from Raxon and Avision and, true to the label’s form, is all about weighty, characterful cuts from Nielsen, an artist who has previously chalked up releases for the likes of Kompakt, Of Unsound Mind and Play it Down.
The titular opener of ‘Love Struck’ is a swaggering, low slung affair with a growling bassline underpinning a pitch shifted vocal refrain and piercing rave stabs - a mutant beast which fuses techno, Garage and rave aesthetics in anthemic style. The skeletal rhythms and gritty acid flair of ‘For Myself’ follow in a track that, through some nifty builds, manages to pull off a big room energy as much as it does a basement vibe. ’Switch’ is next up and, with a rock solid groove, vocal sample and subaquatic tones, displays just how well Nielsen can create a monster with few elements. The heaviest track, ‘Pulse’, rounds off ‘Love Struck’ with a huge, padding kick drum and resonant percussive lead doing the heavy lifting while counterpointed by judiciously employed warm, cossetting jazz flute licks
This EP, titled "Een", or "One" in Dutch, is a testament to my first release as a producer. An ode in a way to my Australian/Dutch roots, all three songs were produced in either, or both, of my two homelands.
A1 George Duke - I Want You For Myself (Original 12" Mix)
B1 George Duke - I Want You For Myself (KON's Extended Remix)
The first release on Kon's, new KonTemporary imprint.. sees the crate diggin selector, producer and remixer extraordinaire reworking George Duke's late 70s jewel "I Want You for Myself."
Kon's masterful arrangement highlights the desirous pleas of lead vocalist Lynn Davis while showcasing the very ahead of its time instrumentation (there are even hints of Larry Heard to be heard here) of Mr. Duke's musical masterpiece Carefully breaking down and building up the arrangement, Kon even pulls out previously unheard vocal gems from George Duke himself hidden in the original stems giving the listener a glimpse of the studio vibe during its recording.. This release also boasts the original version taken directly from the studio masters of the highly sought after 12". All in all floor stomping disco magic from one of the world's best remixers further sonically enhanced by Boston native Caserta on the mix.
Roisin Murphy - Incapable (Inc. Crooked Man Remix)
Roisin Murphy’s disco-hued ‘Incapable’, created in partnership with long-time collaborator DJ parrot, was met with universal acclaim when it was released in early June. A masterclass in effortless cool, shuffling house beats meets Murphy’s pirouetting vocal which moulds and morphs across 8 perfect minutes, whilst lyrically it brilliantly subverts the tropes of the traditional heartbreak lament. Alongside the original, the B side also offers his darker, deeper ‘PRT 3’ remix that puts a heady spin on the track, heavy on a shape-shifting, reverberating bassline in constant flux.
A Sylvester - Over & Over (Kon's Find A Friend Remix)
B Sylvester - Over & Over (Kon's Found A Friend Remix)
The second release on Kon's officially licensed KONtemporary imprint is here.. this time he takes on one of disco's anthems to devastating effect, deftly reworking Sylvester's evergreen 'Over & over'.

Kon has lovingly freaked the original master tapes into 2 brand new, fresh versions that will undoubtedly find their way into any self-respecting disco freaks DJ set. On side A we have his 'Found a friend remix', a beautifully reimagined and restructured version that leaves lots of space and let's those wonderful strings really soar, finally crescendoing in total disco glory! It's no wonder that the mighty DJ Harvey has been closing his sets with this one. Pure class. The first release on Optimo Music founder JD Twitch’s new compilation-focused label Cease & Desist will be a collection of pioneering turn-of-the-90s British “Bleep & Bass” techno tracks curated by author and music journalist Matt Anniss.
Join The Future: UK Bleep & Bass 1988-91 is a partner product to Anniss’s critically acclaimed book on the foundations of British dance music’s ongoing love affair with sub-bass, Join The Future: Bleep Techno and the Birth of British Bass Music. The book, which was published by Velocity Press in December and features a foreword by JD Twitch, documents in vivid detail the previously untold story of the Yorkshire-pioneered style and the impact it had on the development of UK dance music.
The compilation is the first to focus on Bleep & Bass since the sound’s heyday in the late 1980s and early ’90s. It features a mix of historic cuts, period classics, overlooked gems and unreleased material. It was mastered for release by Warp Records co-founder and Forgemasters member Rob Gordon, a producer, remixer and studio engineer who arguably did more than anyone else to define the sub-heavy sound of the style.
Gordon also contributed a previously unheard version of Alfanso’s “Dub Feels Nice”, a near mythical track he produced in 1991 that has never received a proper commercial release. The cut has been a secret weapon for a handful of Sheffield DJs for almost 30 years, most notably Gordon’s fellow Forgemasters member Winston Hazel. Fittingly, the compilation also includes the original unreleased instrumental version of Tuff Little Unit’s Steel City classic “Join The Future”.
Many of the other tracks on the compilation are rare, hard to find or have not been issued on vinyl or digital since their initial release. It opens with Unique 3 and the Mad Musician’s “Only The Beginning” – the 1988 A-side of the first ever Bleep record – and also includes tracks and remixes from fellow scene pioneers Ital Rockers (an early alias of dub hero Iration Steppas), Nightmares on Wax, Cabaret Voltaire and DJ Martin and DJ Homes, the previously unheralded Chapeltown duo behind the influential Leeds-based studio and record label BASSIC.
Elsewhere on the compilation you’ll find Birmingham producer Demonik’s sought-after debut single “Layrinthe”, a hard-to-find cut from Bedford-based men of mystery Original Clique, two classic cuts from the vaults of influential Midlands label Network Records and a glassy-eyed slab of Bleep/deep house fusion from 100 Hz.
Join The Future: UK Bleep & Bass 1988-91 will be released on double vinyl and digital download. The 10-track vinyl version features an insert with extensive liner notes by Matt Anniss. It also comes with a code to download the 12-track digital download version. The compilation will be released by Cease & Desist on March 25th 2020.
Techno, Disco, Italo, Electronics, House, Library, Cosmic and Ambient frequencies - These are the bedrocks of the Midnight Drive ethos and sound. A label shining a light on overlooked or unheralded creations and respectfully reissuing them for the contemporary audience. A label that respects and understands the connection between these disparate and sometimes forgotten forms of musical expression and celebrates them. Midnight Drive are extremely proud to reintroduce the world to the sublime after-hours, cult downtempo sounds of Belgian duo Pieter Kuyl and Jan Van Den Bergh aka Mappa Mundi.
Mappa Mundi's sole release 'Musaics' was released on Belgium's legendary USA Import label in 1990, riding on the wave of early trance and ambient house sounds and exploring the same sonic terrain and worlds as The Orb, The KLF, Sun Electric and other like minded outfits. A wonderful swirling collage or mosaic of breakbeats, samples and new-age synth stylings, 'Musaics' is indeed a real trip. A spontaneous late night studio concoction borne of endless takes and experimentation between Kuyl and Van Den Bergh who both display a deep knowledge and a shared love of different sounds from around the world. The end result is a meditative, sprawling journey that touches on many different styles from languid widescreen techno to frantic drum machine driven machine-funk, all while retaining a feeling of post-rave atmospherics and psychedelia. This is a very special record indeed, and is somewhat of a lost gem from a very fertile and interesting period in sample based music. Undoubtedly the perfect soundtrack to numerous late nights and early mornings to come, remastered and spread across 2 discs for maximum sonic playback.

Following last years acclaimed Curse of Soft Rocks album, we're invited to revisit said masterpiece from an alternative entry — a robust compilation of remixes. Every track is re-contextualized so wildly that we're left with a beautifully oblique yet complimentary rendering. The personnel employed vary in style and technique drastically, but such is the ethos of Soft Rocks, and furthermore the ESP Institute. At the end of the day, we implore you to shut up and listen.
On this 12" (the first of 4 surrounding The Revenge of Soft Rocks remix album) we're treated with a serious disco belted version of Talking Jungle as reworked by JUSTIN VANDERVOLGEN (TBD, Gold Channel, DFA, etc, etc) and an insanely serene take on Obo by ESP favorite TIAGO (Sea Power & Change, Gala Drop, DFA, etc, etc)... good lord this is quite a piece of wax!
A. Sterac vs Liberty City - f You Really Love Someone / The Hypnoticus II (DJ T. Edit)
B. Liberty City vs Jynx - If You Really Want Someone
In the early 90’s Oscar G and Ralph Falcon AKA Murk unleashed a series of 12” singles that single-handedly put Miami on the House Music map. The Murk sound combined a deep, tribal drum-based rhythm track with strong house/R&B vocal performances, and it sounded like nothing that was out back then. While many other producers have tried to recreate the Murk Sound, nobody else has been able to match their distinctive sound sonic vibe. To this day these tracks still get played peak hour around the world.
“If You Really Love Someone” released under Murk acronym Liberty City is one of the best known of these releases. It’s now been given a spectacular update by one of the world’s most respected, influential and talented House Music aficionado’s DJ T., who had combined the much loved old skool flavor of Murk’s original production with the updated groove of Sterac. The B-side features a remix by emerging UK talent Jynx. Released on the original Murk Records vinyl imprint.
Hot Creations gear up to drop the eagerly anticipated House & Pressure from hot property Route 94. Echoing the excitement that surrounded his No.1 hit My Love, which shot him to stardom, the record has been in serious demand for months. Now finally ready for release he showcases his versatile skills as a producer over three heavy-weight tracks.
Rowan Jones aka Route 94 explains how he wanted to “put out three tracks that were diverse yet definitive.” Title track House & Pressure packs a real punch and contains the vocals from Joey Negro's classic Ride the Storm featuring Linda Clifford. The dominant female vocal on ‘House & Pressure’ combined with the force of the drum machines is a traditional element that people connect to the Route 94 productions. With ‘Crazy Bitch’ it’s a more of a big room sound, incorporating ghetto elements. ‘Dark Keyless’ is the complete opposite, creating a groove that aims to grab the crowd and let them loose.
This year has seen a succession of big releases and remixes from Route 94 that cement his place amongst the dance music elite including the recent hit Mind, Body & Soul on Crosstown Rebels. The talented producer first saw fame reaching No.1 in the UK charts with My Love featuring Jess Glynne. Keen to remain on the underground scene, he followed with releases and remixes on Leftroom, Defected and Hot Creations. Overwhelming success followed as he performed at the likes of fabric, Sub Club, Space, Ushuaia, DC10 and many more. With a wealth of new material still on the way and a hectic touring schedule in place, it’s clear this is only the start for the young artist.
BLINDED BY THE SUN (REMIXES #1 - ROMAN FLUGEL / ANDREW WEATHERALL)
Roman Flügel and Andrew Weatherall supply two outstanding remixes of Phil Kieran recent album ‘Blinded By The Sun’, which David Holmes claimed is “one of the best electronic dance inspired records in recent times.”
Mixmag described Phil Kieran as “one of those producers that impresses with every release” so it comes as no surprise that two music heavyweights have jumped on board for remix duty. Kieran accounts Flügel and Weatherall to both having a heavy influence on his career.
German DJ and producer Roman Flügel is easily one of the most revered names in the dance music spectrum. His take on ‘No Life’ is a masterclass in production. Flügel has created a track that is powerful whilst also superbly intricate. Flügel holds over twenty years of experience, extensively releasing on a number of labels whilst also co-founding Ongaku, Klang and Playhouse Recordings.
UK born DJ and producer maestro Andrew Weatherall remixes ‘Finds Love’ and reminds the listener of how beautiful electronic music can be. Combining cosmic layers with the ethereal vocal, this is a lesson in what a remix means. Weatherall has been experimenting with techno since the 90s, and well regarded as one of the world’s most influential DJs.
Kieran created a ten track narrative in ‘Blinded By The Sun’, inspired by his experiences in the industry. It was met with high acclaim globally and this remix package further imprints his vision on pioneering imprint Hot Creations.
'So you wanna be a star' - 24 carat Disco gold from 1980 right here. Mtume, led by legendary Jazz percussionist and all-round musical visionary James Mtume had a number of massive hits and can count quite a few 'classics' within their repertoire ('Juicy Fruit' anyone?). This flawlessly arranged, funk drenched jam speaks on the dangers of living life too fast and relying on those who can't be trusted. Remember, this was the beginning of the 1980's, the Disco era had began to fade amidst the drug hazed excesses of the previous decade, while the music continued forging it's path skyward with tremendous records like this one. 'So you wanna...' really has a message and that's not surprising considering it has one of the most underrated production teams behind it in the shape of Mtume / Lucas. A true gem of the post-Disco era. Essential and rare.
This repress of the original Epic promo from 1980 is backed with a brand new re-edit from one of NYC's Disco kings - Mr.K aka Danny Krivit. With almost half a century spent behind the turntables in NYC and beyond he surely understands records like 'So you wanna be a star' intrinsically, he was, after all, there when it all happened! This classic has been legally reissued by Above Board distribution in conjunction with the legal rights holders - Sony Music Entertainment. This high quality repress features original Epic label Disco 12" artwork and has been remastered from Sony's original sources by Optimum Mastering, Bristol UK.
I'M READY TO GIVE UP MY LOVE (SPECIAL DISCO VERSION)
Here's one for all the hardcore Disco and Soul lovers out there, one of the finest and rarest manifestations of the legendary writing, arranging and production team of Randy Muller and Jeff Lane (Skyy, BT Express, Brass Construction, Aquarian Dream, Spiders Webb and many more!). First appearing as a 'Columbia Records Disco Series' promo 12" in 1976 this is a wondrous example of that mid to late 70's uptempo Soul sound morphing into Disco, and boy are we glad it did! Drenched in pure Philly vibes 'I'm Ready To Give Up My Life' is a real beauty, clocking in at over 9 mins of pure dance-floor joy with soaring strings and a driving rhythm. Pure class all the way and one for the aficionados for sure. Beautiful Soul music that will certainly deliver the goods in the club indeed. As per the original 1976 promo release this 12" features the same program on both sides.
This underground Disco classic has been legally reissued by Above Board distribution in conjunction with the legal rights holders - Sony Music Entertainment. This high quality repress features original Columbia white label Disco 12" artwork and has been remastered from Sony's original sources by Optimum Mastering, Bristol UK.
A Jones Girls -Dance Turned To Romance (Maurro Mix)
B Jones Girls -Nights Over Egypt (Maurro Mix)
Another pair of underground Disco dance classics get treated to the MM reworking magic! Both these edits are exclusive to this 12" and have never before been released in any format!!
Detroit natives The Jones Girls have long been loved for their musical output, during their long and successful career they've released a slew of well known and classic material since the early 1970's and have worked with a host of legendary artists including Leon Haywood, Lamont Dozier, Curtis Mayfield, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and many many more. NYC's edit king Mike Maurro may not have been around as long as them but he has skilfully woven his magic with 2 of the girls' biggest club jams, gently reworking from the master tapes respectfully he's delivered 2 stunning edits of "Dance turned into a romance" and "Nights over Egypt".
"Dance turned into a romance" on the a-side was originally released on Philadelphia International in 1980 and is a bonafide slow burner, Mike has the crisp drum break upfront in the mix, making it perfectly mixable and setting the tone for the deep bass guitar licks to creep in. This wonderful rearrangement suddenly gives way to the slick piano, guitar and of course, those Philly strings! Originally written and produced by the legendary Gamble and Huff team this is classy stuff. Beautifully edited here by MM, retaining the feel of the original composition yet adding a welcome 2016 twist!
"Nights over Egypt" - a true blue club classic, takes up the b-side! This one should need no intro, another solid piece of gold from the Philly International archives from 1981. This time the girls team up with Philly genius Dexter Wansel for a smoothed out slice of Disco dripping with sophisticated Jazz sensibilities. Here, Mike uses what sounds like some alternative takes from the studio session and succeeds in rearranging an all time classic jam with class! We are treated to a nice long instrumental intro with flourishes of Rhodes, strings and super tight, snapping drums with the vocals coming in almost 3 minutes into the track! Absolutely essential stuff here, another Mike Maurro master mix sureshot!
If you're a lover of all things DISCO, these edits will no doubt whet you appetite for more of Mike's mixes, utterly essential reworkings for 2016's dance-floors. Snoozing on these EP's is not advised!
Following the release of his Projector EP earlier this month, Daniel Avery has enlisted revered London producer Four Tet aka Kieran Hebden for a remix of ‘Quick Eternity’, taken from the former’s long-awaited second album Song For Alpha.
Hebden flips the warm, undulating synths and crystalline percussion of Avery’s original in his own inimitable style, building shimmering, skittering flourishes before a pneumatic final half.
SLOW FADE REMIXES (FEAT SURGEON, ACTRESS & INGA MAUER REMIXES)
Following the surprise release of his Slow Fade EP last month, Daniel Avery presents a collection of remixes from Surgeon, Actress and Inga Mauer. The remix EP will be released digitally and on 12” vinyl on March 9th.
Widely regarded as one of UK electronic music’s leading lights and “arguably the finest techno DJ in the world” (FACT), with a career spanning over 20 years, Surgeon lends his clinical touch to ‘Radius’, adding an erratic, propulsive beat to Avery’s warm synth layers for one of his best remixes yet.
Werkdiscs head Actress meanwhile delivers a pared back and introspective rework of ‘Slow Fade’, shrouding the synth refrain in hypnotic, distorted production, in his first remix following the release of his critically acclaimed 2017 album AZD.
Bunker Records’ Inga Mauer completes the package, offering a claustrophobic mix pierced with metallic shards that confirms what Resident Advisor said of the uncompromising Russian-born Amsterdam-based DJ and producer last year: “Mauer is destined for big things.”
Rephlex producer EOD drops a mind-bending fifteen track debut album on Bjarki’s bbbbbb this June.
Born in Trondheim, Norway, Stian Gjevik is a rarity amongst electronic music producers. Possibly the most interesting musician representing the braindance and IDM sounds of today, EOD’s productions have landed on labels like WéMè Records, sleepers, cpu, 030303 and Aphex Twin’s highly respected Rephlex. Dropping on bbbbbb last year, his ‘Swurlk EP’ sold out within a month and received support from Aphex Twin, Bicep, Bjarki, Nina Kraviz and many more.
“It's the album I've wanted to do since I started making music - feels like a dream come true. Inspired by what got me into electronic music in the first place; jungle and early ‘00s Warp/Rephlex "drill & bass"-type stuff, but shifted through my own EOD-style lens. Oh yeah and loads of lovecraft references because I love those.” - EOD
A must-listen for fans of sublime synth-driven cuts, otherworldly beatless affairs and frenetic, machine- driven jams, EOD’s ‘Named’ is a refreshing and highly anticipated debut long player from a true master of his craft.
Kenny Dope and Louie Vega's Nu-Yorican Soul project was responsible for some of the biggest underground club hits to come out of NYC throughout the 1990's, their collective vast musical knowledge, impeccable taste and legendary status as DJ's in the city only helped elevate them to the highest level.
"The Nervous Track" is a fine example of the duo's deep musical heritage, originally released on Nervous Records in 1993 it's deep pads, bassline and solid as a rock breakbeats captured the ears and minds of any self respecting DJ or dancer who came within a hundred miles of it, the very definition of a classic! Fusing the worlds of Jazz, Latin, HipHop and House MAW set the blueprint for generations of DJ's and producers to come with records like this.
Here, re-mastered and re-issued from the original DAT's in conjunction with Nervous Records NYC is a piece of dance music history, "The Nervous Track" is available again and still sounding as vital and groundbreaking as it did on it's original release.
DJ Nature follows up 2018’s ‘Ultimate Delusion’ EP with another set of pure heaters for Futureboogie.
The Bristol born DJ and producer, also known to many as Nature Boy, comes with an exemplary track record, but that’s to be expected from one of the scene’s early pioneers. Releases for Golf Channel Recordings, Jazzy Sport and Ruff Disco Records are considered true classics, and rightly so!
Breezy MPC house jams of the highest quality, ‘Flutter’ manages to fuse David Lynch style pads and earthy vocals with a marching rhythm, whilst ‘A Moment’ gets cosmically charged with a spiralling modular lick over a chugging guitar hook and spacey chords.
NB’s Mix of Siliconada goes straight for the jugular, with looping disco rhythms and off kilter jazz licks, whilst the Original Version lays heavy and disorientating synth work down for a killer techno injection.
As always, DJ Nature delivers a unique and distinctive sound that is often imitated but never bettered!
