    2. A2 The Search (DJ Khalab Remix)
    3. B1 The Search (Live and psyched at the Fish Factory)
    4. B2 Everywhere (Ruth Goller Remix)

This 12” begins with Collocutor ripping into Miles Davis’ ‘Black Satin’, from the benchmark On The Corner LP, and owning it from the off. A respectful homage is paid to the original with sensational improvised parts being added with a hip groove from the percussive wonders of Magnus Mehta (Magnus P.I.), Maurizio Ravalico and bassist Suman Joshi. The sparks fly as guitarist Marco Piccioni channels the spirits of late ‘60s psychedelic fires. The melodic riff of Miles’ classic is stripped down by Simon ‘Shwaa’ Finch and Mike Lesirge who subtly encapsulate the original’s atmosphere.

The A-side is completed with the label’s latest signing, DJ Khalab delivering a sharp, warped assault on Collocutor’s ‘The Search’, just in time for the LP's repress.

On the flip is a live version of ‘The Search’ recorded during the ‘Live at the Fish Factory’ Session in 2016 which, have so far resulted in two collector’s edition dubplates that are as rare as hen’s teeth. The invigorated far out sound has been mixed on this recording by producer Sam Jones who has entrenched himself with the On the Corner approach and brought his ‘Sam Jones Construct’ vision to the label. Marco Piccioni sold his soul at a highway crossroads on the way to the recording. There are spirits riding on the backs of the ensemble guiding this version of ‘The Search’ out into cosmic oceans.

The 12” ends with bassist Ruth Goller (Melt Yourself Down, Let Spin, Gufo and Bug Prentice) stewarding her virtuosic groove sensibilities into the twilight zone with this brooding off -kilter abstraction of ‘Everywhere’. The stripped backbones of the tracks rhythm are punctuated by a dialogue and mantra summoned by Goller that moves menacingly over a synth bass augmented b-line.

As label founder Pete OntheCorner describes the release: “This EP ushers in a string of releases that embody the label’s vision. The futuristic concept first realised by Miles Davis with On The Corner and more generally during his electric period is at the heart of our collaborative, genre-less burning chalice. Analogue genius being mutated with a charge into something other, a vanishing point of ethereal musical feeling where the space for fresh narratives can be formed beyond genre and out On the Corner.

Victoria's artwork is always stunning and for this series of works she has already conquered the sublime with the sleeve for Black Satin".

    1. A I Want You (Original Acid Mix)
    2. B I Want You (Disco Mix)

Following on from a hectic summer touring across the globe, NY producer Joeski returns to the studio to create his next release, due on Crosstown Rebels in 2018.

The release unfolds with the original version of I Want You - a fierce, driving beat is juxtaposed alongside the sensual and smoldering vocal as the bassline rumbles on. Pure 4am, fist pumping pleasure. The flip side introduces the disco mix of the title track. But don’t let the ‘disco’ lull you into a false sense of security. The track is fuelled by intense industrial sounding smashes and an abundance of layers that creep ever closer.

A founding member of NYC’s The Chocolate Factory DJ Collective, Joeski has been a staple in the underground scene in New York since 1991, holding down a residency at the city’s famed nightclub- Roxy. He’s played alongside the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Louis Vega and Roger Sanchez. His career has seen him release on Electrik Soul, Siesta, Chez and Camouflage as well as launching his own imprint Maya Records in 2001. This year, the prolific producer has juggled a jam-packed touring schedule taking in Australia, New Zealand, South America and Europe, as well as Ibiza for Do Not Sleep and Misfits.

T-Coy's 'Cariño' - An all-time UK acid house classic from 1987. Fusing the industrial clicking and whirring of the UK's post-industrial landscape with the lush, melodic, balearic inspired piano lines of the white isle and sucking us all in in the process. A true masterpiece courtesy of Mancunians Mike Pickering, Simon Topping and the late Ritchie Close who's combined projects included Quando Quango, M-People, Annette, A Certain Ratio and more. It's truly hard to believe this record is 30 years old. It can easily stand shoulder to shoulder with anything being released today. The B-side 'Regret' is also an amazing, minimal slice of punk-funky 808 driven niceness. Super stripped back and with an innocent charm and poppy vibe it is the perfect foil to the latino house chaos of 'Cariño' on the other side. One could argue that the A-side will take you up, and the B-side will bring you down (In the best possible way!). This classic has been legally reissued by Above Board distribution in conjunction with the legal rights holders - Sony Music Entertainment. This high quality repress features original 1987 Deconstruction Records label artwork and has been remastered from Sony's original sources by Optimum Mastering, Bristol UK.

    1. A Sound Pump
    2. B It's like Before

Ecuadorian Carloh’s passion for music began at an early age, learning the art of turntablism from his father and uncle, both of whom were DJs. Heavily influenced by the native instruments of his country and the folk music of the Andes Mountains, his knowledge of modern and traditional is reflected in the latest release on Hot Creations.

The EP opens up with title track Sound Pump. Alien-like noises float amongst the powerful, thudding drums before descending into a crescendo of hurried synths that are smashed into outer space by that classic jackin’ beat. This is swiftly followed by the dark and looming bassline of It’s Like Before, littered with twinkling, cosmic synths it’s work’s a treat!

Claiming he wants to “rescue the sound of classic house”, the talented producer has forged a musical style that strikes the perfect balance between old and new. Describing himself as a pioneer of the musical genre “Andes House”, Carloh has previously released records on Desolat, Baumsounds and I’m A House Gangster.

Reality Check - A one-off project from Freddy Turner & Jason Hernandez who dropped this soulful, street-tough slice of House on Strictly Rhythm back in 1998. This is one of those hidden gems, tucked away in the recesses of the Strictly catalogue, so it may well have slipped by under the radar save for a few dedicated heads and vinyl junkies! It's got THAT NYC sound, hard drums, vocal samples, tripped out loops and stabs. Perfect DJ material if you're into the funked out stripped back House sounds of the mid to late 90's, this one will certainly be (in) your bag. 'Fantasy' has been given some tasty 2017 remastering treatment and repressed onto a high quality, weighty 12" for all you fiends out there, this one will keep them moving in the mix. Perfect NYC House sounds here, untouched and represented in it's original 1998 form, no sleeping permitted!

    3. B2. Brouillage

Having been an electronic activist in Marseille for more two decades and more, DJ OIL is now a firm staple of LDDLM. Following the RAIN ep released in the summer 2016, here is the first 2018 outing from us: the already bubbling HERITAGE ep.

“Heritage” has been an Ivan Smagghe (and a few others) secret weapon for more than a year now, a strange sampladelic track featuring a full Marcus Garvey speech. A subtle yet powerful appropriation of early house clichés, the hit has one feet in tradition, one feet in political modernity.

The EP comes with two more warped cuts: the slow guitar swamp of “Brouillage” and the System 01/McKenna influenced “May Be”. Psychedelics and sun.

A second 12” by DJ OIL will follow shortly, doubled with a full digital release of the two EP’s with digital extras.

Expect new releases from our camp by Rheinzand, Init, Johnson and more…

    2. B Grindhouse (Obscure Shape & SHDW Remix)

Slam and Obscure Shape & SHDW step up for the second wave of Radio Slave ‘Grindhouse’ remixes on Rekids this February.

One of techno’s most iconic records, ‘Grindhouse’ first appeared on Radio Slave’s ‘No Sleep’ series before spawning multiple remixes from Dubfire, Danton Eeprom, Terence Fixmer and Nic Fanciulli. Kick-started by Len Faki, last year saw the announcement of a series of remixes with more to come from Vatican Shadow, Markus Suckut, Lady Starlight and Special Request.

Complete with relentless kicks, sinister drones and industrial elements, Part Two is not for the faint-hearted. Starting with Slam, the Soma bosses keep things dark, with rattling top lines and echoing effects resulting in a truly decadent techno floor destroyer.

Following a remix of Radio Slave’s ‘Vision’ in 2016, Obscure Shape & SHDW’s abilities are held in high regard by the Rekids owner and their rework of ‘Grindhouse’ reinforces why. Complete with a rumbling lowend, metallic melodies and soaring synths, the From Another Mind founders continue to establish themselves as two of techno’s most exciting names.

    6. B3. Last Light

Apollo presents a sublime mini album from Melbourne duo Albrecht La’Brooy AKA Sean La'Brooy and Alex Albrecht which will appeal to fans of Suzanne Kraft, Tornado Wallace and Dawn Of Midi.

The release is inspired by a visit to the beautiful Wilson's Promontory, a remote national park on the South East coast of Australia. The tracklisting runs from morning through to nightime and tries to capture the feeling of each snapshot in time.

Their music is a delicate fusion of ambient electronic textures, live instrumentation and field recordings - gauzy guitar melodies, dreamy synth arpeggios and throbbing rthymic pulses that feels equally at home in outdoor amphitheatres as well as dark nightclubs

Alternating between their cosmic/balearic deep house and more laid back introspections, Tidal River's gorgeously lush sounds are remarkably consistent - rich, warm and organic with an emphasis on atmosphere and the transportation of the listener. Each track was the fruit of Albrecht La’Brooy’s long improvised jamming process

Heavily involved in their local scene, the duo co-run the Analogue Attic imprint, "Championing this gentler side of electronic music in Australia” which has proven a fertile incubator for their own development, across a series of ambitious and ear catching EPS, alongside local cohorts such as Sleep D, Rings Around Saturn and Udmo. This involvement also extends to including local players on their recording sessions as well as their cosmic live shows. The Tidal River album includes a quartet of jazz musicians including label-mate Matthew Hayes on bass guitar, guitarist Oliver Paterson, Spanish Cajon courtesy of Joseph Batrouney and night time saxophone debut by Josh Kelly.

    1. A1. Curiosity
    2. A2. Proposition
    3. B1. Exploration
    4. B2. Curiosity (Mike Parker Remix)

This four-track EP named ‘Curiosity’ from techno duo, Abstract Man marks the beginning of the new On the 5th Day imprint, the latest branch to extend from the heart of the London-based underground techno project. The final outputs of a year-long creative journey in the studio with a focus on analogue machines, ‘Curiosity’ (including Mike Parker remix) represents a chapter of exploration into sound design and manipulation, and the unity and evolution of two separate musical identities through the collaborative process.

The debut release from Abstract Man begins with ‘Curiosity’ itself, portraying the first stages of the pair’s collaboration and inspired by a shared appreciation for driving, hypnotic techno. Mesmerizingly linear and highly textured, the components forming Curiosity’s foundations each command their own space, separately evolving with clear purpose whilst interacting in a compelling, ritualistic dance to lock in the listener. Its overall progression, including an emerging chant-like drone, signifies the manifestation of a new artistic voice, all together making this a symbolic achievement for Abstract Man, as well as a compelling and highly effective tool for the dance floor. The subsequent Mike Parker remix of the same track is another striking portrayal of his distinguishable sound and style, whilst developing to present something surprising and perhaps unexpected from the techno veteran, making this a must for collectors of his work.

Then follows ‘Proposition’, exploring the powerful possibilities through simplicity and symbolising the “less is more” approach which fuelled much of the first chapter of Abstract Man’s time in the studio. The joining of its elements creates a dark, seductive and unwavering tension, making it the ultimate tester for any venue's sound system!

Finally, ‘Exploration’ steps in a with an uplifting vigour and propulsive, rhythmic magnetism, rounding off the EP nicely with its feeling of freedom and completeness, leaving a sense of intrigue in readiness for their next instalment.

    4. B2. Paco

Kiwi AKA Alex Warren, returns to Futureboogie after 2016’s well received “Orca” EP (which picked up support from the likes of DJ Harvey, PBR Streetgang, Manpower, Kate Simko & many more) with the cinematically sprawling “Amityville” EP.

With all the intensity and menace of the supernatural events immortalised in Rosenberg’s 1979 horror flick, “Amityville” leans on Lalo Schifrin’s classic score and serves up a chugging disco-fied monster. Arpeggiated synths and those memorable vocal refrains from the movie build a mood of anticipation that flourishes into sections of pure wigged out disco business. It’s a very clever and unique production, and one that we served up to DJ Tennis for re-interpretation.

Following on from recent remixes for The Juan Maclean and Tricky, as well as a spectacular DJ Kicks mix for !K7, DJ Tennis remoulds “Amityville” into a deep and delicate house groove, introducing some guitar riffing and deft mallet instrumentation whilst manipulating the original components to mesmerizing effect.

On “Warriors”, Kiwi continues his unabashed love of cult movies with a musical ode that captures the edgy and urban sounds of 70s cinematic synth soundtracks; phasing guitar riffs, rolling snares and dramatic synth sweeps dominate this infectious track. And closing the release, “Paco” is a melody fuelled and studious production; wandering keys drift over a steady beat and filtering bassline combo whilst the synths pitch bend and flex, resulting in a gloriously trippy ambience throughout.

MAGNETIK NORTH is ‘live drum electronics’. Drum performances are fed through processors, samplers and sequencers to produce layers of rhythmic patterns that interact with each other. Other instruments are melted into different textures so that only the harmonic content remains. This is a new project from Ian Tregoning, engineer and producer for artists as diverse as Yello and Fela Kuti.

Now working with Jaki Liebezeit, the legendary drummer from CAN, to add his endless evolving rhythms. Jaki’s in a world of his own as he balances technical brilliance with subtle restraint. Recording started in the Summer 2006 in an old jazz studio in the south of Köln. Jaki arrived with a minimal drum kit including customised cymbals, a snare and a huge Gretsch floor-tom from the CAN days. All of Jaki’s performances are ‘complete takes’ with no drop-ins, loops or edits.

The backing tracks for ‘evolver’ were recorded without using key changes. Each song features one key which is held continuously while other instruments and effects are blended with the key. Drums (also tuned to the same key) were added last which is another unusual technique. As Jaki says ‘they’re often overlooked as tuned instruments in their own right’. The finished results are a minimal blend of industrial and classical. Like listening to a ‘raga in an earthquake’.

The fourth release on Trevor Jacksons Pre- Label is by SKULL. A visceral journey into experimental noise and no wave avant grade beatscapes

The last SKULL release ‘SNAPZ’ appeared on Jacksons own Output Recordings label in 1999. A seminal collection of tracks that had previously featured on the first two legendary Mo wax ‘Headz’ compilations (also featuring Autechre, Beastie Boys, Air, and DJ Shadow) as well as tracks that had also appeared on Kevin ‘The Bug’ Martins notorious Macro Dub Infection albums during the mid 90’s.

Reactionary sonic statements aimed at the coffee table world of Trip Hop, fuelled by his dissatisfaction and dissillustionment with Hip Hop of the time, Trevor pushed himself into uncomfortable and far more extreme areas than he had before, areas he felt unable to explore with his Underdog productions, which were mainly being utilised for major label remixes at the time.

Influenced as much by the industrial pioneers, post punk and new wave of the past as the burgeoning post rock scene in the mid 90’s, This new set of previously unreleased recordings originally produced between 1996-2000 are equally as intense and visceral as the early releases. Dusty samples, raw beats, tape loops, and primitive effects combine to sound as relevant now as when they were initially created.

After the acclaim of Time Traveler’s I’m Made of Stars’ LP last year, followed by two successful EPs on his Chronicles Diary imprint, Michele Pinna brings his Time Traveler moniker back with ‘Remix report II + Chapter IX’ EP featuring powerful remixes by three key names in European and US techno.

The EP opens with the veteran visionary Dave Clarke who delivers a complex industrial version of ‘Interstellar’ made of deeply distorted tones and punk influences. Detroit Techno Militia take over with their reinterpretation of ‘B-29’ where a groovy and energetic atmosphere is set from the start, adding a vigorous touch to the track. Brian Sanhaji’s raw techno roots are showcased in ‘Alpha’, with pulsing and dense beats yet precise cuts, turning the track into serious dancefloor material. Time Traveler is closing up the EP with hammering beats and distorted riffs and three menacing tracks in line with his dystopian sci-fi vision.

Jan Schulte is a producer from Dusseldorf, and also on of the recurring DJ from the crazy local club Le Salon Des Amateurs. The multifaceted producer is releasing records as Wolf Muller or Bufiman. It’s this moniker he choose for his “Runnin EP” on Versatile. With the track “Running” exploring the dirty side of Disco and titles as “Kalvier” and “Bonobobeat” with their powerful bassline mingle with tribal rhythms, Bufiman reminds us that “Music Is Voodoo“…

Originally released as a highly sought after limited white label, Leftroom now releases the immutable ‘Cultural Variance’ EP from DJ Bone, comprising two original choice cuts from the Detroit producer.

Eric Dulan aka DJ Bone’s production career dates back to the end of the 90s when he unveiled a consistent string of 12’’ releases via his own Subject Detroit imprint as well as working with Juan Atkins’ Metroplex. Recent times have seen DJ Bone collaborate with Deetron, join the Hessle Audio crew at fabric London and make regular appearances at the infamous Freerotation festival, here we see Dulan push on joining the Leftroom Records roster with a fresh two-track EP.

Kicking things off is title track ‘Cultural Variance’, a ten-minute progressively blooming composition led by direct 4/4 rhythms and meandering arepggio’s infused with a high energy, up-tempo feel creating a typically classy piece of work from DJ Bone. On the flip we have ‘Faze’ and this time Dulan takes on an understated dubbed-out approach laid out over its near eight-minute duration with a smooth, gradually unfolding feel.

Already heavily championed by Ben UFO, Laurent Garnier & Seth Troxler. This is a HUGE record!!

A defining moment in dance music history was the day that Roy Davis Jr. teamed with vocalist and writer Peven Everett in 1997 to create this deep, ethereal, soul-music gem that helped launch an entire musical movement known affectionately as Speed Garage. The "Live Garage" mix is the most popular but the other mixes have grown in popularity over time.  It is hard to believe that this record is almost 20 years old yet it still sounds as fresh today as it did so long ago.  Truly a classic that deserves to be celebrated by a new generation of dance music lovers. One of the defining releases on Large Music gets a special re-issue after a 16 year wait.  Considered by many to be one of the top 3 packages in the early Large catalog, this EP set the trajectory for what would quickly become known as the "West Coast" sound of American House.  The main vocal on side A also became a venerable classic at the Shelter in NYC and was played consistently by Timmy Regisford throughout his tenure there.  The darker, more disco filtered tones on the flip side were also highly praised and played at the time by French DJs such as Daft Punk, Phil Weeks, Cassius and many others.  Rasoul is often overlooked as one of the chief architects of modern Deep House, yet this release certainly secures his elite standing in the annals of House Music history.  Essential!
