Having immersed himself in dance culture’s many avenues since the 1990s, Mat Playford has been an ever present character on the scene. With releases for labels as varied as Paper Recordings, Black Rock and Carl Cox’s Awesome Soundwave imprint, culminating in 2019’s acclaimed full length album, ‘Solar’.
On his Kneaded Pains debut, Playford demonstrates his dextrous musical proficiency on ‘Morning Call’, with melodic arps and dramatic synth sweeps, underpinned by a propulsive beat. A beatless Reprise Mix is included, as is an impressive remix from Elliot Adamson (Trik/Me Me Me), who marries trance inducing gates pads with granite hard drums.
More brain scrambling arp business, and Detroit techno tropes, are locked into ‘Come On You Squares’, marking out a particularly musical instalment into Kneaded Pains catalogue.
