Introducing Pure Moons, a new imprint by Pete Dougherty, p.k.a. Moon Boots. Fresh off 2 albums and a wildly ambitious live show with a full band, the Brooklyn producer goes back to his roots with a new series aimed at adventurous DJs and music lovers.Pure Moons Vol. 1starts off with “Together Forever,” a mantra that is serving the newly-married producer well in these uncertain times. Blasts of jazzy chords fire up the imagination but neverdistract from the insistent, uplifting groove. Soulful vocals and a wash of analog synthesizers bring the track to a climax in classic Moon Boots fashion.“Deep Love” mixes bottom-heavy deep house with sultrydiva vocals lifted from an obscure sample. Subtle FM Piano chords modulate while a dubby SH101 bass pounds away. All the while the vocals become more and more ethereal, as echoes turn into echoes turn into echoes.Bringing it home, long time DJ set ID and fan favorite “Sundae” matches chipmunk-y pitched up choirs with an agile bass line. The sense memory of gospel gives a warm rush of serotonin. A George Duke-influenced piano and chiming melodic sirens bring the track to a boil before gently winding things down.
