Time to welcome back a man like Recloose for his follow up to last years DOG debut Don’t Get Me Wrong which got the likes of Mano Le Tough, KiNK, Tim Sweeney and Roman Fluegel all very hot under the collar. Matt Chicoine needs little by way of introduction having been releasing amazing music for two decades on esteemed labels such as Rush Hour, Peacefrog, Planet E and Sonar Kollektiv. Recloose continues to stay on top of his game, ensuring he stays in demand whether it be as a DJ, live as Recloose or as part of Carl Craig’s Innerzone Orchestra. On top of all this the Detroit native but adopted Kiwi still manages to find time to provide the revered weekly radio show Hit It And Quit It on his home town of Auckland’s George FM.
Title track It’s Too Late picks up where Don’t Get Me Wrong left off, melding a electronic freestyle jam which hints at a jazzed up version of UK bass with bouncing 808 kicks pinning down the bottom end and his Detroit influences squeezing their way into the fusion too.
You Just Love You heavies up the vibe with a stomping slice of expertly crafted filter disco. A tried and tested formula of course, but in the hands of a master like Recloose, the result is a fresh, floor-filling anthem chock full of peaktime energy.
Flipping over Matt treats us to some vintage Recloose-style business in the form of Backtrack. Bouncing beats, deep chords and vocal hits reminds us of the unique and brilliant music from his classic LP Cardiology.
