Spring has arrived. Think daffodils, premature outdoor parties, ambitious BBQ’s and the new FINA 007. Continuing our trend for spotting emerging stars we have enlisted the talents of Mannheim poacher turned gamekeeper, and Air London starlet, Steffen Deux. After mixing the ‘5 Years of 8 Bit’ compilation and appearing on Cocoons ‘Party Animals’ mix , Steffen has demonstrated his ability to turn his Loft Club fame, into a reputation as a producer, not just a record maestro.
Representing the A side is ‘Cold Water’; A layered, 4x4 claptastic track, which borrows a dropping 90’s baseline sprinkling it with loops and vocal cuts for the summer. On the B, the record becomes difficult to listen to without forgetting where you are. ‘Ma Home’ takes on an almost religious tone. The organ, melody and vocals sound like a cross between Paul Kalkbrenner ‘Castles in the Sky’, Midland’s remix of the ‘Two Bears’, ‘Church’ and James Blake’s ‘ Wilheim Scream’.
Luca C lends a twist of a knob with breakbeat - esq take on ‘Ma Home’ for B2. The Milano disco house producer - whose credentials include supporting Daft Punk, summer anthem Different Morals feat Ali Love, an album alongside studio partner Brigante on Southern Fried, not to mention the Infinity Project on Hot Creations - has delivered an angelic rework, stepping away from the norm with a piano laden, euphoric organ grinder.
