Berlin-based duo Umami debut on Bedouin’s Human By Default label this June with a serene three-track release entitled ‘Soltornet EP’.
Teaming up a decade ago, the pair are in a particularly good place right now having dropped their debut album on trueColors last year, ‘In Exchange For Everything’, which included their hit single ‘Terra Mount’ (a collaboration alongside singer-songwriter-producer Monolink). Picking up regular support from Bedouin, Umami’s next release has proven to be a staple in their sets with ‘Soltornet’ being responsible for an unforgettable moment at Bedouin’s ‘Live at Mayan Warrior’ set at Burning Man 2019.
With its precision kicks and organic percussion, ‘Soltornet’ is a scintillating cut complete with unhurried, detuned melodies, layers of synths and echoing effects. Taking things into a more rhythmic direction, ‘Addicted To You’ then incorporates infectious bongos, springy stabs and melancholic vocals. Tying everything together, ‘Elep’ concludes the package with sultry bass, mesmering arpeggios and soaring moans.
