2019 saw the first release from Weska without a label, a new path for the young Canadian artist as plans to develop his own collection of self-released titles now reaches its final and 5th EP this June. As lockdown descended upon the music industry, Weska has kept himself more than busy locked away in his studio in Berlin, finding new levels of creativity which have helped him to churn out this massive sounding EP with 3 original tracks.
Fifth Wave opens with ‘Spiritus’, a spirited sonic exploration of the darker side of his sound. Heavy drums and crisp percussion give way to gritty melodics wandering pads and eerily repeated vocals. The strong sound design of light vs dark means the break acts as an oasis in a sea of warehouse mayhem.
‘Love Arcade’ opens with tribal drums and ominous chords. Continuing the theme of light and dark, as the groove deepens trance-like sonics lighten until the drop takes you back under. Finally, ‘Fatal Fields’ takes a guttural groove that ebbs and flows. Tribalist and full of low-end fury, the melodics add drive and direction upping the energy throughout.
The EP has already had strong support from Adam Beyer, Nicole Moudaber, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Joyhauser, and Sama.
