Zepp001 returns to Delusions for our first release of 2011 and what a way to start the new year! The Seattle based disco obsessive has been holed up in his recently completed studio in Delphia (a city located on Antarcticaʼs southern shore) and its easy to hear the influence this strange and otherworldly place has had on the two original tracks here on this release.
First up is The Warm (an Americanʼs attempt at irony?) which sets the tone perfectly with glacial pads and widescreen panoramic chimes. The bottom end is a modulating rumble from the abyss and the groove drives along with
snapping claps and lustrous rides. Next we have Dearly Beloved which opens with a single resonating pad echoing and phasing until eventually the groove is introduced and off we go. In contrast to huge sound of The Warm, things are much more understated and weʼre treated to a lovely, dubby, organic sounding groove with plenty of space to immerse yourself in. Just a few little percussive fills here and there along with some nicely placed analogue synth sounds are all thatʼs needed to keep things interesting and engaging.
Finally we have a beautiful remix of Dearly Beloved by DJ Nature whose recent Golf Channel and Jazzy Sport releases have been keeping us nice nʼ inspired and whose involvement with the legendary Wild Bunch makes this man a tower of musical knowledge. On this mix he shows why heʼs the master at injecting the raw, unadulterated funk into house music but with a deepness and attention to detail that is sublime. The groove is clunky and loaded with attitude whilst the hypnotic, looping vocal sample keeps things focused throughout itʼs 9 glorious minutes. Yet another quality production from DJ Nature.
